The silence that followed Carina's question made it look like she had asked the wrong question, or maybe, at the wrong time.

Jayden looked at her, and averted his stare at her, looking at the night sky through the window, which had just a few stars, twinkling now and then.

He hoped that his life would no longer be like the darkness, now that he had someone in his life, who was ready to stay committed to him.

Although he trusted Carina, he could not still get over his stated presumptions about women.

"You have nothing to worry about, okay? Leave Stephanie to me, I will handle her," he assured her, bringing back his focus on her.

He creased his brows. Why was she crying? Did he say something to hurt her? Was she hurt anywhere?

He jumped out of the bed, surprising Carina.

"Are you okay?" They spoke in unison, staring into each other's eyes.

"Are you okay?" Carina repeated, staring at him with widened eyes. He frowned. Was she not the one who looked hurt?

"I'm fine," he said, "are you ok
