Chapter 2

"Regret?" Stephanie chuckled, "what do I have to regret? Not like I have anything to lose."

“Don’t try to brag here, Jayden, I know who you are, a poor, smelly delivery man! Now just leave!” She mocked.

"You see… This is why I said it must be fun." The man laughed, “A naive poor guy thinks a beautiful girl would suffer with him from the life...”

He mocked, “But the poor guy would never know what a nice time I had with his girl while he was delivering the food, thinking she would marry him...Your take out tastes good, but your girl tastes better.”

Stephanie slapped the man slightly, “You’re so bad!”

Her voice was so timid, but the things she did was not.

She hugged from back of the man, the man said, “Ah, I heard that you’ve never slept with Stephanie, that’s too bad, you would never know how good she is...”

Jayden was irritated by his words, he clenched his fists and gritted his teeth.

“Oh, our delivery man is going to fight me here? Come on, just leave. You would be died if you dare touch me. I’m rich, you’re poor, this is our difference!” The man laughed.

Jayden held his anger, he knew it’s not a good choice beat the man here.

“Now just leave, I’m going to have a nice time with your girl! Hahaha!” The man laughed and closed the door heavily.

Hearing the laughter from the room, Jayden turned back and left.

He smiled wryly, “I was too naive...”

Walking to the shore of the river, he took out the ring, and stared at it for a while. It meant a lot to him, but not anymore. The more he stared at the ring, the more he became angry at what happened in the hotel room.

He gave it one last look, and threw it in to the water.

A few seconds later, an old man emerged from the darkness, into the dim light of the moon. He walked slowly towards Jayden, and touched his shoulder, startling him.

"How did it go? The old man said.

There was an ominous silence, just the sound of waves was heard. He took a deep breath, and turned around to face the man.

"Father was right. That woman doesn't deserve me. I lost." he calmly said.

"What happened?" The man asked again.

"Well, I caught her in the room with a man who lacked so much manners. It happened that the man had planned the whole thing, and what did she do? She sneered. She broke up with me, and insulted me like I was nothing."

From the look on his face, he really did not want to recount the story.

"Women… love and care only about money.” he added.

"Don't say that. Just because she is among the bag eggs, doesn't mean that there are no good ones. You are just unlucky to have met the bad one."

The man looked at him, and noticed that he seemed uninterested in the issue, so he changed the topic of discussion.

"So, when will you come home?" He paused, "and take over the business?" He asked.

Their expressions had changed. They both looked serious, like they were having a silent battle.

"After graduation." he said.

The old man was relived. Finally, he could rest from trying to convince him to take over his father's company.

He had refused to take over, and signed in as the new CEO. He had said that he wanted to live a normal life, and get a woman who would love him for who he was, and not because he was wealthy.

He had brought Stephanie to meet his father, who was disguised as a sick old man. Jayden had pleaded with Stephanie to stay for a couple of days and look after his father, while he went for work.

While Jayden was away, Stephanie never cared for the man. She would bring a small portion of her leftovers for him, and would command him to eat.

He left after a few days.

Jayden's father had called him in, to discuss with him about Stephanie.

"Jayden, as much as I am not in support of this thing you are doing, I would never allow you to fall into the hands of a loose woman like Stephanie. She does not deserve you! At all." The man had said to him.

Jayden had never noticed any of such behaviors as proclaimed by his father, so he thought he had said that because he wanted him to quit his plan, and take over the business.

His father was furious when he heard that Jayden had plans to marry Stephanie.

"The day you propose to her, you will no longer be the heir to this family, nor will you have access to any of my assets."

But fortunately, Jayden found out what kind of person she really is.

The old man smiled, knowing that his efforts were not in vain.

He passed him a debit card, and patted his back. "Here's your card. It will be activated soon. And again, you are still the heir to your family's wealth. You are lucky," he said, walking back into the dark.

Jayden stared at the card, and smiled. He just wanted to prove them wrong, that love is more important than money.

He was wrong, after all.

Just then, his phone beeped.

He took it out, and it was a notification that he had a message. He swiped right to open it.

“Your balance of your bank account is 100,000,000 dollars!”
