CHAPTER 2. Robert,is she still yours?

ROBERT, IS SHE STILL YOURS?

The whole place went dead silent like a graveyard.

Most of the students were stunned by what Robert, the poor church rat, was trying to do.

That was what he was fondly called by some students.

“What the hell is he trying to do?” The first whisper hit Robert's ears, but he was still recovering from how Olivia just stopped him from touching her skin!

“Did he just disrupt Owen's proposal?”

"Now that he woke the sleeping lion, he must be dense to disrupt such a proposal!"

Of course, every student was stunned; the majority of them didn't know Olivia was Robert's girlfriend.

She had asked that they keep it low-profile. She told him she wanted a personal relationship.

Owen, with his one eye, wandered to where Robert was still standing. He clenched his fists tightly as he felt his fingers digging into his palms in anger.

“What do you think you're doing?” He sneered.

Robert remained unfazed. He didn't even bother to give Owen a look; instead, he focused his gaze on Olivia, who was now nervous and avoided eye contact with him.

“Olivia,” he said, his voice filled with disappointment.

“I thought we were dating? Why were you about to accept his proposal?”

He shook his head slightly and sniffed his nose. He remained steadfast and eager to hear her words, but before Olivia could even say a word, Owen quickly rushed forward and lunged a full-fist punch at Robert, but Robert was quick to dodge the blow and quickly take his revenge!

“Boom! Boom! Boom!”

Robert had landed about three heavy punches on Owen, and just like that, Owen met himself on the floor.

Silent ripples rippled through the crowd, and what could be heard were only gasps, if surprising.

How could Robert dare hit Owen? The school prince and richest scholar of the school!

“Did he just hit Owen?” was the question from one of the students.

“He must have gone nuts! I just hope he will have enough money for his hospital bills because he is about to be put into a state of coma.”

“Is he that poor?” Another student inquired.

“Don't you know him? He is the poorest guy on campus, with nothing but a torn piece of clothing.”

“Damn !” was the reply. “And he just hit someone wearing a Louis Vuitton piece worth over $5,000? He is a sycophant!”

Owen slowly rose from the floor, anger coursing through every fibre of his body. He couldn't believe Robert had just hit him. He winced at the pain of the punches; his face was already swollen, especially the only remaining good eye.

The swollen face was almost covering his only eyesight, while most of his make-up was getting off, gradually exposing his real self to the whole class.

His voice turned cold and filled with anger as he pointed fingers at Robert.

“You dare to hit him with those dirty poverty-stricken hands of yours. Don't you know who I am?“

He bent over a bit to see who he was talking to clearly as his eyes wandered around the place in search of something to hit Robert, and when he didn't find any, he rushed to the school plastic pole and broke it into two.

The whole class gave him enough space as he rushed to hit Robert, but due to his eyesight, Robert ended up collecting the weapon, and this time he was ready to teach him a lesson since he just called him ‘poverty striking'

But Olivia rushed forward and blocked his way.

“Robert, I'm not in for this violence! I don't want to be a part of this! Stop constituting a nuisance in the school.”

“Then let's go! I bought the scarf!” He retorted, expecting a better response, but instead, she just sighed.

“Why aren't you coming with me? Are you going to break up with me and follow this ugly a** because he is richer than I am?” His voice was strained with frustration and disappointment as he didn't see Olivia coming with him.

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd, sending shockwaves through the crowd.

“Did he just say he was dating Olivia?” One asked.

“He must be dense! He and Olivia can never be on the same page. I mean, look at him. Poor thing, how can he date a whole beauty like Olivia?”

“He must be living in a fantasy world, thinking he is dating Olivia,” another taunt.

The comments didn't stop Instead; the most recent ones even cut deeper than the last one.

She moved and quickly helped Owen up from the floor, where he kneeled on one knee.

“I'm sorry; please don't get all worked up over this,” she said.

But Owen wasn't having all of it; he couldn't help but ask angrily. “He said you're dating him. Did you stoop so low to date such a nobody?”

Olivia's brows furrowed; she was confused about what to say. She could feel her heart pounding against her chest. With a shaky voice filled with uncertainty, she said.

“NO! NEVER!”

Robert froze up. He couldn't believe she was denying him in front of this whole class after all he had done for her, even punishing himself just to make sure he got her whatever she wanted. His brows furrowed, creating deep lines on his forehead as he muttered coldly.

“Liv?”

Olivia shrugged. ”I never agreed to date him! How would I date Robert, the poor church rat?”

Laughter ripped through the crowd, and it only humiliated Robert even more. How could she?

He had a nervous giggle, attempting to diffuse the awkwardness of the situation about those insults coming from his girlfriend, but deep down, he just wanted to burrow a hole and disappear into it.

“I noticed he liked all of my photos on I*******m, and when I checked his profile, I noticed he was a talented artist. After professing his love for me, I had him take all of my exams and do my theatre projects for me," she lied before turning back to Owen, whose ugly face was now brimming with a vibrant smile and whose voice was now laced with mockery as he asked.

“ROBERT, IS SHE STILL YOURS?”

Robert stood rooted to one place, still stunned at the cooked-up story Olivia just dropped.

“This is a lost battle,” he thought to himself as he gulped.

“Olivia, can I have back all of my life savings you opted to hold for me?”

Olivia let out a nervous chuckle. ”Lifetime savings?” She asked like she didn't know anything of the sort he was saying.

Robert cocked a brow. ”What do you mean? I gave you my box filled with all of my savings. Give me back since we're no longer dating.”

That was the only money he had left since he had been spending all of his paychecks on ordering dinner for her almost every night.

He was eager to hear her reply, but what he heard next shattered his heart into a billion pieces.

"Oh, that old, worn-out box?” Olivia raised her head to meet his gaze. ”I had the cleaners sweep it out this morning; it should still be in our waste bin.”

Her words were laced with mockery and contempt, but Robert didn't care. All he wanted was his savings box; that was his lifelong savings, and he has been saving for three straight years now.

Taking forty per cent of his paycheck to add every month, he could only guess an estimate of how much it would be. But one thing was sure: it would be enough to buy some textbooks for his final exams.

Without paying them any more attention, Robert rushed out of the crowd to go get his box, but only then did he get stopped by a tall, slender figure with blue bob hair. She is Mrs. Mia, one of their teachers, who also hates him to the core.

Once his eyes met hers, a cold chill ran down his spine. It wasn't going to be a good one meeting her at such a critical time, but he didn't care; he just rushed out, trying to ignore her, but how possible was that?

Her voice thundered. ”Robert!” He stopped in his tracks and turned to hear her.

“Come back here! I heard you've been a nuisance on the school premises; I just don't know why the chancellor has refused to expel you from the school; you're literally of no use to us.”

Her words cut through him like a sharp knife, but he just gulped; of course, he was used to it.

And now all he wanted was to go get his box from the girl's hostel waste bin, but was she allowing him to go get his life savings?
