Robert's face fell, his eyes widening in disbelief and hurt. He felt a sting from Jacob's words, like a bee had pierced his skin. His mind raced with disappointment and frustration. Did they really think he had a whole lot of time to be playing catch up with Owen?

After all these years they had known him and seen how tightly he had always scheduled his time, even when he was working, and how he spent most of his free days in the school library instead of engaging in time-consuming activities - seeing them think so low of him made him sick to his stomach. Apparently, he had made them the studious bookworms they were today. Each one of them wanted to rival each other, solely focused on outperforming the others academically through friendly competition. They were really comparing him to Owen, whose life is a fallacy.
