Ryan was confused why people were chasing such an innocent looking girl. "Who's after you? What happened?" he asked, trying to make sense of the situation.
Her words were cut short by distant shouts echoing through the rain-soaked streets. Some people were approaching in the distance."Come with me," Ryan didn't bother to ask why they chased her anymore. He grabbed her delicate, slender hands running towards the opposite direction. They hurried into the dark alley, he held her close as they hid in a tight corner. The girl clung to Ryan. She looked into his eyes as her cheeks flushed red, she was embarrassed being held by a man that way.Ryan, glancing over his shoulder, assured her, "We should be safe here for a while. But we need to figure out what to do next."He suddenly realized his lips were so close to hers that he could feel her breath on him, she had cherry red plump lips and Blue eyes like calm seas."She hasn't gone far to search the area!" A hoarse voice sounded as the gangsters approached.Ryan instinctively pulled the girl into a tight embrace, shielding her in the shadows of the narrow alley. He placed a gentle finger on her lips, signaling for silence. They both heard the echoes of the gangsters' footsteps as they scanned the area looking for her. Ryan and the girl held their breath as the gangsters passed by, oblivious to the pair concealed mere inches away. The girl's eyes met Ryan's as they stood pressed against the cold brick wall, he felt her heartbeat as her chest rested on his torso.Ryan, noticing the gangsters retreating, whispered, "Looks like they're gone. We need to stay cautious." He slowly loosened his grip on her.The girl stuttered as she took a deep breath, "T..Thank…you very much.""You're welcome." Ryan nodded his head as they cautiously emerged from the alley, "Let's find a safer place now and get far from them.""So, how long do you plan on holding me like that?" She suddenly asked as she looked up at him.Ryan awkwardly scratched his head, "Well, as long as it takes to keep you safe." He turned his back to her without looking at her eyes. "Let's get going."They had only taken a few steps when she spoke up again, "I'll pay you for your protection, name your price." She said in one breath as her footsteps echoed behind him.Ryan lips curled into a wrly smile. Even if she gave him money it would be barely enough for the medical bills of his Lung cancer. He hadn't also helped her with the thought that she would pay him.Ryan, continuing down the dimly lit alley, turned to the girl with a weary smile. "Thank you but I will pass."Her expression turned to one of suprise and then anger as her lips parted, "Why? It's just…" A voice suddenly interrupted her."Thought you could escape, huh? We knew you didn't get far," Footsteps approached them from all sides."You thought you could escape?" The burly leader said with a taunting voice as his eyes glinted with malice.Ryan took a step back to stand in front of the girl as the gangsters closed in."Who are you?" The leader's sneered at Ryan shielding the girl, tightened his embrace.Fear etched across the girl's face as she clung to Ryan. "What do you want with her?" Ryan clenched his feets as he fired the leader a fiery gaze. "Let her go."The leader scoffed, signaling his goons to encircle them. " We have business with the girl but I see you want to get hurt.""Please, just let him go it's me you want." The girl suddenly stepped forward as she bent her head low."No, I would protect you." Ryan said as he stepped in front of her. The gangsters, fueled by aggression rushed towards him, throwing their fists towards him.He couldn't dodge it, it might as well hit the girl behind him so he hugged her as the blows landed on him."Get lost!" He yelled at them and the whole gang burst into a mocking laughter. He hugged her tightly as he wiped the edge of his mouth that dripped out blood. He felt his head swirl and the pain on his head increased, his Lung cancer. He held his head as he staggered on his feets."That's enough you don't have to get hurt because of me!" The girl called out with fear laced in her voice."I…I can't leave you to them." Ryan looked far in the distance hoping somehow help will come, his eyes glazed over. One of the gang members punched him making him cough out blood, another kicked him. In a moment he was beating into a pulp, blood oozed out of his mouth and nose as the girl sobbed into his arms.A gang member with a long scar on his right cheek picked up a stick from the ground and grinned at the unconscious Ryan who held tightly to the girl. "We warned you." He walked towards him as he tightened his hold on the stick. He raised it to Ryan's head, "I guess this is really where it ends." Ryan thought, he resigned to his fate as he clutched his chest, convulsing in a fit of torturous coughing. As the gang member was about to bring the stick down on his head, a sea of light lit up the alley. A convoy of cars with headlights screeched into the dark alley. The cars pulled up beside them and the doors flew open. Over 20 men in black suits emerged from the cars."Boss," A gang member turned to the leader as he was about to grab the girl behind Ryan. The boss looked up at the black suited men, "This girl refused to warm my bed so I have to teach her a lesson. Don't dare interfere fellas."The face of the black suited men turned sour as they approached the gang. Sweat suddenly poured down the leader's face and his heart began to race.He knew the men in black suits didn't mean well so he fired out a threat. "My brother is a Mafia boss, you don't want to get into trouble." He shouted furiously realizing that they didn't bother about his first warning but they still approached."Dang it!" He yelled as he stepped back getting behind one of his gang members who was rooted to the floor in fear."Help me, Uncle Mateo!" The girl suddenly cried out surprising the gangsters, she knew them!An old man stepped out of one of the cars with an icy gaze. "You dare offend the daughter of the Caden family!" He bellowed as he looked up at the leader whose eyes widened in realization."The daughter of the Caden family?" He repeated as he fell on his knees, his face turned pale white and his hands shook in fear. "I'm sorry" The leader said as he bowed his head. The other members of the gang seeing their leader on his knees fell on the knees too. "Forgive me please!" Tears fell down the leaders eyes as he bowed his head to the ground in front of the old man.Ryan was now unconsciously lying on the floor but he saw the gang leader who was haughty a few moment ago bowing down to someone."Pardon me please," The gang leader crawled towards the old man's feet but one of the gang members kicked him."From now on, your little trash gang will disappear for daring to touch the daughter of the Caden family." The old man said coldly as he looked down on the man bowing before him."He is dying!" The girl's shrill voice rang in the ears of the back suited men. They turned abruptly to see her crouching beside a young man's body with tears streaming down her eyes. Ryan laid there unconscious, his clothes were soaked in blood, and he lay there without moving. In panic, she shook his shoulders gently, her voice trembling as she called out his name, "Please wake up!"Uncle Mateo rushed over to her side as he took in the scene with wide eyes. "What happened here? Who is he?" his eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Ryan laying down unconscious on the ground. The girl looked up at her uncle with tears in her eyes, "He protected me and he was hurt badly. We need to get him to a hospital now!" She yelled as tears poured down her eyes. Her uncle's eyes widened and without a moment's hesitation, U
"It seems he wasn't injured that badly," The doctor replied with relief in his eyes. He had narrowly escaped a rift with the Caden family, but he still didn't understand how the young man had suddenly healed up quickly. The doctor wiped sweat off his forehead, "Maybe I was just too terrified to notice it wasn't some serious injury," he muttered under her breath. "Oh he doesn't need blood anymore. He is healing and it appears he didn't lose much blood like we thought." "That's great," The girl wiped the tears from the corner of her eyes. She felt relieved that he didn't lose his life because of her, she would have lived with guilt all her life. "Uncle he must be hungry I'll go get some food." She turned to her uncle and noticed a frown on his face. "Aren't you happy he is fine?" The girl asked looking closely at his face. But Mr.Mateo only shrugged his shoulders. "I'll go check on him. You can go get the food.""Okay then," The girl nodded then slipped out of the room, her steps
Ryan walked out of the hospital briskly, he hopped into a taxi and told the cab driver his address. Thoughts ran through his mind as the car scurried through the city. He had deliberately kept the truth about his tumor from his wife, fearing the burden it would place on her. He wondered what her reaction would be as the cab pulled up at his house. As he stood in front of his house he realized something. All his injuries were healed! The cuts and bruises were almost not visible anymore and the pain was gone. "The healing power that voice said I now possessed? Does that explain why I don't feel the pain from my Lung cancer anymore?" He muttered as he examined his body. He stood on the porch of his door and clenched his fists not afraid of his Lung cancer anymore, he would confirm later if it had truly gone. He smiled, eager to see the look of surprise and relief on his wife's face when he told her everything that happened and how his Lung cancer was gone. With a deep breath, Ryan o
Avery walked into the hospital reception and was surprised to see her uncle. He was at the front desk, engaged with the nurse and paperwork. Wasn't he supposed to be with the injured man? She wondered. "How is he?" She asked when she got close enough. Her uncle turned to look at her after signing the ledger in front of him."Oh Avery I have covered his hospital bill so you won't have to worry about that." He glanced at her hands holding a lunch bag. "About this—" Just as he was about to speak she interrupted him. "Uhm… where is he?" Avery asked looking over uncle Mateo's shoulders while holding a lunch bag. "I'll go give him the food I bought.""He is gone already," Uncle Mateo walked towards her, "You were not hurt at a right?" He furrowed his brows as he observed her closely. "Gone? Where did he go to?" Avery asked with confusion on her face. "He isn't dead right?" Her heart began to suddenly race with fear. "What happened to him?" The lunch bag fell from her hands without her
There was no time to waste. The car was making crackling noises and it was about to explode. He threw the door to the side and dashed into the car through the black smoke. "Mom!" He heard the girl call out from within and he followed her voice to the back seat. Using his strength he raised the back seat that had her trapped and brought out of the car in his arms. "Keira," The woman rushed towards Ryan as she saw him jump out of the car with her daughter in his arms. "My Keira," Tears streamed down her eyes when she saw her daughter was still alive. "Gasoline?" Ryan could smell the gasoline in the air. He looked back at the car and noticed the car dripping with gasoline and he was alarmed. The car was about to explode, "Run!" He said as he grabbed the woman's hand and pulled her away from the car with her daughter in his arms. The car started burning and after just getting about 30 feets from the car, it exploded into flames. The metal of the car made crackling sounds as it got b
The ambulance's sirens wailed distantly, growing louder as it approached Ryan who knelt beside the little girl. The woman's face lit up in relief as she saw the ambulance pull up beside them. If the paramedics had come some minutes later he would have already healed her up without raising any suspicions. 'I'm just 50% in!' he frowned a little as he watched the paramedics approach them. "Help! My daughter!" She held onto her daughter's hands as she watched emergency personnel bolt out of the emergency van with a stretcher. The med personnel rushed to the little girl's side, lifting her gently to the stretcher before scurrying back to the emergency van. Ryan watched one of the med personnel, a young man dressed in white apparel, approach him, "Thank you for giving her CPR, we will take it from here." The young man said, beaming him with a polite smile as he stretched out his hand for a handshake. His eyes suddenly fell on the name tag realizing the young man in front of him was act
The words Mrs. Sonya like a tidal wave, leaving her reeling with shock. Then she lunged at the doctor grabbing the collar of his shirt. "I'll do anything, just please save my daughter," she pleaded with the doctor, her voice thick with desperation. "I was taking her for a heart surgery when the accident happened and it all got worse," she sobbed uncontrollably as she pulled the collar of the helpless doctor who was now almost choking. "Ma'am…" He tried speaking but her hold was strong. "You have to…" Doc Phil tried to be gentle with her, gently removing her firm grasp on his collar but he was choking. "Mrs… Sonya" Ryan felt pain course through his body as he watched her, losing one own daughter the pain was too much to bear. He walked towards the woman and held her hands. "Let him speak ma'am." He nodded. Doc Phil coughed as he adjusted his finally free collar, "Your daughter needs a heart transplant urgently…" "I'm ready to pay anything!" Mrs Sonya interrupted him but he was n
Mrs Sonya reached into her purse with a steady hand, pulling out her credit card but Alexis watched with a sneer, his eyes gleaming with malice. "Really, Sonya? Do you think I haven't thought of that?" he taunted, stepping closer, his voice dripping with condescension."I'm already in possession of all your wealth and you're not allowed to use any funds at all. Not for the surgery, not for anything. You should've known better than to cross me." His lips curled into an evil smile. Mrs. Sonya's face darkened and contorted into a frown. She had just realized that she had been backed to a corner. She glared at him, her grip on the card tightening. "How dare you, Alexis? This is my daughter's life we're talking about!" she spat out, her voice laced with fury and despair laced with a tone of helplessness. "You've sunk lower than I ever thought possible. To use an innocent child's life as leverage... What happened to you?" She yelled at him. "Oh, spare me the righteous indignation," Alexi
