chapter 4

"From now on, your little trash gang will disappear for daring to touch the daughter of the Caden family." The old man said coldly as he looked down on the man bowing before him.

"He is dying!" The girl's shrill voice rang in the ears of the back suited men. They turned abruptly to see her crouching beside a young man's body with tears streaming down her eyes.

Ryan laid there unconscious, his clothes were soaked in blood, and he lay there without moving.

In panic, she shook his shoulders gently, her voice trembling as she called out his name, "Please wake up!"

Uncle Mateo rushed over to her side as he took in the scene with wide eyes. "What happened here? Who is he?" his eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Ryan laying down unconscious on the ground.

The girl looked up at her uncle with tears in her eyes, "He protected me and he was hurt badly. We need to get him to a hospital now!" She yelled as tears poured down her eyes.

Her uncle's eyes widened and without a moment's hesitation, Uncle Mateo barked orders. "Tom, grab the car keys. Phil and Kenny lift him to the car. We can't waste a second!" He snapped his fingers as he barked out orders in his authoritative tone.

They carefully lifted Ryan while the girl hurried behind them, "Please, please be careful with him," Her voice was laced with a mix of fear and urgency.

She got into the car with uncle Mateo who immediately made a phone call as the car started moving, "This is Jonathan Mateo. One of my men needs immediate medical attention at St. Mary's Hospital. I expect the best team ready for him as soon as we arrive," he said with a firm voice.

At the hospital, Doctors and nurses, alerted by Uncle Mateo's call, were ready and quickly wheeled Ryan into the emergency room, Mr. Mateo had a huge influence in the city and the mention of his name would send a feeling of respect when heard.

The girl, standing beside Uncle Mateo, watched with a worried expression as the hospital doors closed behind Ryan. "Will he be okay?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

Uncle Mateo placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "The doctors here are the best. They'll do everything they can for Ryan," he assured her with a smile.

"Take a seat and tell me what really happened." He pointed to a comfy chair in the waiting room.

"Alright," She bit her lips and she settled into the chair beside her uncle.

"Now tell me what really happened," Her uncle placed his hands on her shoulders.

Her lips parted as she took a deep breath and wiped the corner of her eyes and began to tell him everything that transpired with the gang and Ryan.

Meanwhile Ryan was in an ethereal haze of his consciousness where he couldn't hear the voices of the doctor's, the beeping of the hospital machines and his heartbeat.

He felt like he was floating and was detached from the world. His mind was lost in a void with not a single thought in his mind, all was calm.

In the hospital private ward the doctor and nurses were in panic.

"He is still unconscious that means he most have lost a lot of blood. Quickly find out his blood type." The doctor turned to the nurse after examining Ryan.

After a few moments of running tests the nurse walked in."He has an AB negative blood type."

"Do we have any blood of that type in the blood bank?" The doctor raised his eyebrows.

The nurse shook her head. "His blood type is rare, we don't have any in our blood bank."

The probability of losing him was now higher. If that happens they will definitely run into trouble with Mr. Mateo. Their face turned dark and their eyes filled with fear.

"I'll go speak with Mr. Mateo, watch him!" The doctor took off his glasses and walked out of the ward gloomily.

Unknown to anyone in the room, the ring on Ryan's finger that had always been with him began to glow and absorb the blood that dripped down his arms. It glowed with a strange light and just instantly he heard a clear voice echoing in the space around him.

His mind seemed clouded and a subtle and calm voice whispered into his head.

[Chosen Heir the ring you bear is the symbol of Apollo, the god of archery, music and dance, prophecy and healing and powers.]

Ryan felt images instantly flood his mind, images of him badly injured and his Lung cancer. It all flashed through his mind along with the feeling of being helpless. The voice continued -

[You have unlocked the divine abilities of healing and disease. Do you wish to harness this power and be accepted as the heir?]

[Yes] or [No]

He didn't have to think at all, he had made his choice.

"Yes," he spoke to whoever was speaking to him and his voice echoed through the void.

[Heir abilities awakening!]

Just as the words sounded in his mind a warm surge of energy coursed through him and in reality he felt his body heat up and the pain began to subside. Slowly he was gaining his consciousness.

This energy did not come from some outside source. It seemed to come from within him as though it has always been there, dormant. He felt waves of heat radiating from the ring slowly reaching his stomach and shoulders, then his arms and legs, hands and feet. It filled every fiber of his being.

"Sir we have checked the whole hospital, there is no blood donor. Believe me we are trying our best." The doctor bowed his head slightly in front of Uncle Mateo and his niece.

"Your best isn't enough! You have to save him." Mr. Mateo slammed his hands on a desk startling the doctor and a nurse that ran in.

"Doc you need to come in quick." The nurse called out. The doc nodded and excused himself from the already infuriated Mr. Mateo.

The doctor ran into the private ward to find the nurse's eyes wide with wonder. She stood there unmoving. But just a few moments ago her expression was dark, but not it had a hint of relief.

"His vitals are stabilizing incredibly fast?" The nurse that called the nurse murmured. The doctor stood there with his hands trembling slightly as he checked the monitors.

"Look at the wound, it has stopped bleeding and is closing," the nurse exclaimed, eyes wide behind her glasses and the trio exchanged looks of bewilderment.

"It seems it wasn't too serious." The doctor heaved a sigh of relief.

Outside, tears streaked down the girls cheeks. "He is going to die because he saved me?" She sobbed into her uncle's arms who looked at her with sadness in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, I should have arrived sooner." He shook his head as he heaved a sigh.

"No it's my fault, I dragged him into this…" Her sobs increased as she felt a feeling of guilt. Suddenly the door of the private ward flew open and the doctor stepped out.

"How is he now?" She quickly stood up as she saw the doctor.
