Chapter 20: Making up for lost time

A wave of melancholy washed over Spike as he gazed down at his feet. He had spent so long trying to hide his divine heritage, afraid of what others would think if they knew the truth. But now, in this moment, he felt a sense of relief. He no longer had to hide who he was. He was half-elf, half-god, and there was no shame in that.

As he roasted the fish over a small fire, his mind drifted to Elliott, his best friend. He wondered what Elliott was doing now, and if he missed him too. He thought of the old cabin, the place where they had spent so many happy days together. He closed his eyes and pictured the familiar sight of the cabin in the forest, its windows glowing with the warm light of a fire. He wondered if Elliott ever thought of him, or if he had moved on to new adventures. The thought made his heart ache with longing. Elliott was the only one who had ever truly understood him.
