While waiting for the male receptionist, Miles heard the voice of someone softly pleading with a female receptionist to let them see the CEO as they had a business proposal for him.
He was shocked when he found that it was Fiona Blaine, his wife’s mother, doing this. Behind her is Lesley Blaine, Lola’s younger sister and Miles’ sister-in-law.
There was also a man, around Lesley’s age, with them and he suddenly took over the conversation with that female receptionist. "You should know who I am. My name is Lucas Jerald. My father knows the important people at this company, so I'll advise you to let us in, or you might find yourself in deep trouble in the future."
The female receptionist was completely unfazed by the man’s threat. “I’m sorry, but I can’t let any of you up that elevator unless you have a legit appointment with the CEO.”
Miles soon understood what was going on. His mother-in-law and sister-in-law wanted to initiate a meeting with the CEO, but they couldn’t since they were in no position to make an appointment in the first place.
Fiona Blaine is the Deputy Sales Director of a mid-tier company, and she was here in hopes of getting the CEO of Eckre Empire on board as a major investor.
That’s where that man, Lucas Jerald, came in. Apparently, his father had some level of connection with the employees here and he believed he could use that to get Lola’s mother and sister inside. Alas, this had turned out to not be the case.
Lola’s sister, Lesley, turned to the other woman with a slight glare. “What is this, Lucas? You promised us that your father’s influence was enough to secure us a meeting with the CEO.”
“Hey, don’t blame me. I’m just trying to help you and your mom.” Lucas quickly defended himself. “How was I supposed to know that my father’s influence won’t be enough? He’s always bragging at home about how influential he had become with the higher-ups of this company.”
"You two, stop it! Now and here is not the time for you to fight with each other." Miles' mother-in-law, Fiona, calmly berated the two younger adults. It was then she caught eye with a man in a low-quality security outfit and her eyes suddenly widened. "Are my eyes deceiving me? Or is that Miles I'm looking at?"
Lesley followed her mother’s gaze and her eyes also widened. “No way! It really is him. What the hell is that man doing here?!”
Fiona ignored Lesley and she walked towards the man she hated most in this world. “Miles, what the hell are you doing here, you useless fool?!”
Miles sighed in his heart as he watched these two in-laws coming towards him with the other man right behind them. “Hello, Mrs. Blaine.” He glanced at her daughter with a nod. “Hey there, Lesley.”
Lesley raised a middle finger at him in response.
Fiona replied by raising a hand in Miles’ face. “Hold your greetings; they are as worthless as you. What the hell are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be with my daughter and poor granddaughter? Since you’ve failed to be a true man capable of providing a stable life for his family, the least you can do is to be there for them physically.”
"Actually, I came here directly from the hospital." Miles decided to be straightforward with his reply, as he hated having lengthy conversations with his in-laws. "I'm here to see the CEO for something really important so…."
Fiona, Lesley, and Lucas suddenly burst into heavy bouts of laughter, cutting off Miles’ words.
“Mom, can you believe the words this useless scum just uttered?” Lesley stared at her mother as she couldn’t stop laughing.
Fiona shook her head as she couldn’t stop laughing either. “I can't believe it either. I've always thought he was only a good-for-nothing, but I didn't expect him to be a clown too."
The other man, Lucas, looked at Miles with disdain. "How dare you, of all people, think he could possibly meet with the CEO of this company? Don't you know you're like a disgusting peasant wanting to sit with an emperor? Not even my father's influence was enough to meet the richest man in the city, but you think your muddy pig ass is worthy of this? You really are a clown."
Miles’ face turned stony as he watched his own in-laws publicly humiliating him. This was why he hated having conversations with them. Ever since he married Lola, he had always been the object of ridicule to them.
A change of event suddenly occurred as a woman appeared before the three women, and they were left stunned.
While the two women and one man were publicly humiliating Miles, a sharp-looking middle-aged woman got out of one of the 'VIP only' elevators and walked towards the male receptionist to whom Miles had shown the unique card. They whispered back and forth for a brief moment before the secretary's gaze turned to the group of laughing women and the man with a stoic face.Fiona was the first to notice the secretary’s presence and she immediately called her daughter’s attention. “Lesley, look! Someone from the CEO’s floor is here.” She tried to be as outwardly calm as possible while her heart began racing.“Oh my goodness! They must have reconsidered your business proposal and sent her here to inform us.” Lesley turned to Lucas. “Your father’s influence must have worked after all. I’m so glad we brought you with us.”Lucas smoothed his hair with a prideful smirk. “I told you.”Miles followed his in-laws’ gazes to find who they were looking at. He quickly recognized the sharp-looking female
“Young Master, it is your duty as the best candidate in the family to carry on the empire’s legacy.” Butler Dorian replied immediately. “I know you left the family after the horrible death of your mother, but you need to understand that your father is not the culprit here. It is unfair for you to keep punishing him for this.”“It doesn’t matter however you put it, Dorian. My father is still somehow involved in the death of my mother, and for that, I don’t want anything to do with him.” Miles retorted heatedly.Dorian took in a deep breath. “Young Master Miles, I am in no position to tell you what to do.” He sat back down on the couch and he extended the inheritance contract file in his hands to the young man. “But you need to realize that your father is not the only one in the creek family. Refusing to do your rightful duty means you’re also throwing away decades of efforts and achievements.”Miles could only huff in silence as he turned his gaze away. He saw reason in what the old ma
"Get lost!" A pissed-off Miles finally shut the door elevator on Edmund's face. He finally got rid of the bastard. Miles had always known that the sales director had coveted his wife ever since she joined the company. He just wished Lola could see things clearly for what they truly are.“Miles, where did you get the money from?” Lola suddenly looked at her husband with a worried gaze. "Did you steal it from somewhere?" Her eyes suddenly widened as a realization crossed her mind. “Oh my god! Please, tell me you didn’t borrow this from a loan shark?”Miles couldn't believe the words that were coming out of his wife's mouth. How could she suddenly think the worst of him? Did she really think there was no legal way he could have gotten his daughter's hospital bill? Seeing how his wife was treating him like a stranger while praising Edmund left Miles deeply hurt. “My goodness! Miles, answer me!” Lola began tearing up as she pointed an accusing finger at him. “Have you lost your mind?! Wh
Miles had arrived at Styleon Group in a sullen mood. He felt mentally drained as he couldn’t help but replay the horrible fight he had with his wife. After all he had gone through; he was done pretending to be something he wasn't. He was the farthest thing from a poverty-stricken man. He was the heir to one of the wealthiest empires in the world, and it was high time he acted like it. This was why had decided to quit his job.Once he arrived at the Styleon Group building, he was immediately confronted by his fellow security men. He could see the haughty expressions on their faces.Miles didn't pay any mind to this though. He had never been close with any of these workers anyway. "Hey, guys. I'd like to see the head of security."“Why are you asking us? If you want to see him, go look for him yourself.”“He must think we’re his errand boys or something.”The security officers began mocking Miles right in his face but Miles remained passive. He could tell that these guys weren’t going t
Miles was dragged out of the building. On the way out, the numerous security men laughed as they punched and kicked him while holding him down forcefully. Finally, they almost stripped him naked as they tore his uniform off his body. Miles looked down at his tattered uniform in anger and frustration. “How could you guys do this to me?” Miles coldly gazed at the mocking faces of the security men in front of him. “We’ve worked together as coworkers for years, and now, you guys are treating me like your worst enemy.”The security men glanced at each other and they burst into laughter. “Shut up, and quit asking such a stupid question.” One of the older security men got angry and kicked Miles in the chest, watching him fall to the ground. “Ever since you started working here, none of the female cleaners in this organization has paid any attention to us.” He pointed an accusing hand at Miles. “To them, our looks couldn’t hold a single candle to yours.”Miles suddenly understood the probl
A woman spoke through the phone in an angry voice. "Are you deaf or something, General Manager?! The board of directors has just informed me that Eckre Empire has strictly demanded that Styleon Group Corporation be stripped of its value." There was a strong sense of impatience in this woman's voice. "Have you not seen that our stocks are plummeting? How dare you call yourself a capable general manager?"“I’m so sorry, Ma’am.” Fisher quickly sat down and furiously typed away at his laptop until he saw the chart and his body froze. “Ma’am, how is this possible?”“That was what I wondered as well. We’re just a mid-tier corporation that merely started a few years ago.” The woman allowed a moment of brooding silence. “But then I got tipped off that you had recently fired someone from your company, someone by the name……..”The woman didn’t get to finish before Fisher called out the name himself. “Miles Creek.” His body froze as an intense shiver ran down his spine. He recalled the special c
The audience was beyond stunned by Fisher's actions and words. They began whispering to each other, wondering what was happening.“What?!” Edmund’s body froze as his eyes widened. “Mr. Fisher, do you realize what you’re asking of me?”“And I won’t ask twice.” Fisher’s voice dropped to a much colder level, clarifying that this was a threat. “Apologize to Mr. Miles Creek right now, or lose everything.” He pushed the sales director a few steps back, releasing his collar in the process.Fear spread on Edmund's face and he could tell that his superior was dead serious. He couldn't help but wonder why Fisher was suddenly on Miles's side. After a few seconds, a thought crossed his mind. Miles must have offered his gorgeous wife to Fisher, and now, the general manager had become Miles' willing puppet.“That whore.” Edmund muttered under his breath as he cursed at Lola Blaine. Everyone watched as Edmund slowly turned towards Miles. “I…am sorry.” He spoke with a tight voice, showing his reluct
Miles smirked with an innocent gaze. “I want 70% of Styleon Group Corporation sold to me within the hour.”Fisher almost fell back to the floor as he heard this. “Seventy what? Mr. Miles, I’m just a manager at this company, so I have no say on who becomes the shareholder.”"But the board of directors can make that happen, right?" Miles's demeanor remained calm. "I want you to inform them immediately. I want nothing less than 70% of the company's share today." Fisher couldn’t believe all this was happening. “How much time did you say I have?” Miles thought about it for a moment. "I'll give you a total of three hours, Mr. Fisher. If I haven't signed the papers by then, I will no longer hold any negotiation with this company." He tilted his head. "And I believe you're well aware of what will happen to this company by then."Fisher’s face turned grave as he nodded and rushed out of the office. This way, he couldn’t help but feel like he was a messenger on an errand given by Miles.Withi
Miles knelt down to her level, smiling softly. "We did, sweetheart. But winning was just the first step. Now we have to make sure it stays won."Sarah's brow furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean?"Miles quickly looked at his family, then shifted his focus back to Sarah. "We still have a large amount of work in front of us." Nevertheless, I think we are prepared for the challenge. Do you want to assist us in improving the city? Sarah nodded with great enthusiasm. "May I work as your aide?" The room was filled with laughter, relieving the tension that was growing. Miles stood and playfully tousled Sarah's hair. "You have the ability to become anything you desire, young one. "That is the main objective." Maxwell cleared his throat, drawing everyone's attention. "Miles, there's something else we need to discuss. About your role in the family."Miles tensed, memories of their past conflicts flooding back. "Dad, I-"Maxwell held up a hand. "Let me finish. I was wrong, son. I tried t
Miles paused at the door, turning back to face his defeated enemy. "You're right about one thing, Ethan. It's not over. It's just beginning. But this time, we're building something better. Something just."With that, they left, racing towards the Lyon compound. While driving through the city streets, they observed evidence of the night's happenings all around - police barriers, lights flashing, and groups of spectators. "What do you think Joseph Lyon has?" Lola asked, her brow furrowed with concern.Miles shook his head. "I don't know, but we can't let him walk. Whatever it is, we'll face it together."They arrived at the Lyon compound to find it in chaos. Creek family members and newly arrived police officers were everywhere, securing the premises and rounding up Lyon family members and associates.Elena met them at the entrance, her face grim. "Joseph's in the basement. He's threatening to upload some kind of dossier to the internet if we don't let him go.""What's in the dossier?"
Elena's voice came through, tense but steady. "She's inside. Ethan took the bait. He's got her in his office."Miles tightened his fists, suppressing the anxiety eating away at his stomach. "Okay then. I am entering. Always remain committed to the plan, regardless of any obstacles that may arise. With that, he walked confidently towards the front door, feeling his heart racing but remaining determined. The guards by the entrance became tense when he neared. Miles declared that he is here to visit Ethan with a commanding tone that left no room for disagreement. The guards nervously looked at each other before one of them communicated on his radio. After a brief pause, they moved out of the way, letting Miles go through. While strolling through the grand corridors, Miles couldn't shake the thought of the countless lives ruined to uphold this image of authority and extravagance. He prepared himself, aware that tonight marked the end of everything. He reached Ethan's office door, pau
Miles took a deep breath, his mind racing with possibilities. "We need to create a distraction. Something big enough to draw Ethan's attention away from his office."Lola stepped forward, her face set with determination. "I have an idea. But you're not going to like it."Miles turned to her, concern etched on his face. "Lola, what are you thinking?""Me," she said simply. "I'll turn myself in to Ethan. Tell him I'm abandoning you, that I want to make a deal.""Absolutely not," Miles said firmly. "It's too dangerous."Lola stood her ground. "It's the perfect distraction. Ethan won't be able to resist the opportunity to use me against you.""She's right," Rachel interjected. "Ethan's obsessed with destroying you, Miles. Having Lola in his grasp would be irresistible."Miles shook his head, his voice rising. "No, I won't risk you like that. There has to be another way.""There isn't," Lola insisted. "We're running out of time and options. This is our best shot."Maxwell placed a hand on
"Dad!" he called out. "This way!"In some way, amidst the chaos and lack of light, they succeeded in coming together again and leaving the cabin. In the woods, they ran without direction, with the sound of their pursuers not far behind. "There's a river approaching," Maxwell gasped while they ran. "If we manage to get across, we could risk losing them." They continued moving forward, with branches lashing their faces and the ground unpredictable beneath their feet. At last, the sound of water rushing reached their ears. "We arrived," Elena wheezed. But as they reached the riverbank, a shot rang out. Miles felt a searing pain in his arm and stumbled."Miles!" Lola cried out."I'm fine," he forced through clenched teeth. "We must continue to keep going forward." Stepping into the icy water, they could hear their pursuers approaching nearer. Miles glanced behind him and observed flashlights moving among the trees. With a sinking heart, he came to the realization that we will not be
While driving in uncomfortable silence, the city lights disappeared in the distance. After what felt like an endless amount of time, Dorian veered onto a dirt path that twisted through thick forests. "He declared that we are nearly there." Out of nowhere, headlights were visible in the rearview mirror. Dorian muttered curses quietly. "They've found us."Miles twisted in his seat, his heart pounding. "How? We were so careful!""Questions later," Dorian growled, pressing down on the accelerator. "Hold on, everyone!"The vehicle surged ahead, jolting harshly over the bumpy road. Sarah began to weep, and Lola tried her hardest to console her while hanging on tightly. "That way!" Elena yelled while indicating the direction in front. A tiny cabin appeared, tucked in between the trees. Maxwell came to a halt in front of the cabin. "Everybody, leave!" "Hurry up!" They scrambled out of the car, Miles helping Lola with Sarah while Elena and Maxwell grabbed what few bags they had managed t
It's a gamble," she remarked, "but there's a chance it could succeed." Count me in. One after another, the rest of the Autumns concurred. When they joined hands to confirm their sudden collaboration, Miles felt a spark of hope for the first time in weeks. Miles did not realize that another person was secretly listening to their conversation. In a room on the upper floor, Maximilian Autumn, the eldest child of Nigel and heir of the Autumn family, was having a conversation on the telephone. "Did you get all that, Ethan?" Maximilian whispered. On the other end of the line, Ethan Chariot's voice crackled. "Every word. Good work, Maximilian. Your family's betrayal won't be forgotten when this is all over."Maximilian's grip tightened on the phone. "Just remember our deal. When the dust settles, I want control of both the Autumn and Chariot families."Ethan chuckled darkly. "Of course. As long as you hold up your end, you'll get everything we agreed upon. Now, let's discuss how we're goi
While embracing each other, both fully conscious of the peril nearby, a faint voice was heard from the staircase. "Mom?" Father? "What's happening?" Miles and Lola looked in the direction Sarah was standing, her worried expression evident on her small face. They shared a glance, aware that their future decisions would impact not only their destiny, but also that of their daughter and the whole city. Miles kneeled and extended his arms towards Sarah. "Sweetheart, please come over here." Mom and Dad have something significant they need to inform you about. While Sarah embraced them, Miles and Lola promised quietly to defend their family and seek retribution against anyone who posed a threat. The larger view was starting to become clear, bringing with it the understanding that their lives were about to change forever. The sudden ringing of the doorbell surprised Miles and Lola, interrupting their quiet chat. Miles cautiously approached the door, looking through the peephole. Surpris
He was startled by the ringing of the doorbell. He opened the door and saw Rachael Autumn standing there, her face showing signs of worry. "Rachael? What are you doing here?" Miles asked, ushering her inside.Rachael wrung her hands nervously. "Miles, we need to talk. It's about your family... and mine."Miles' eyes narrowed. "You mean how your family has been lying to me all this time? Using me?"Rachael flinched. "It's not like that, Miles. We didn't have a choice.""There's always a choice, Rachael," Miles spat. "You could have told me the truth.""And you?" Rachael shot back. "You lied too. You said you were single, that you were just Miles Autumn. Was that all a ploy to get close to us, to get information?"Miles stepped back, stunned. "What? No, I... I never said I was single. I just... I didn't mention my family because I was trying to protect them."Rachael's eyes softened. "I believe you, Miles. But you have to understand, we're all caught up in something bigger than ourselv
