CHAPTER ONE: HARD LIFE OF MILES CREEK.

It is intensely warm under the harsh glare of the high noon sun as a male security guard stands before the large gate of Styleon Group’s building. This man currently had a deeply worried look on his face as he held an outdated phone to his ear with a shaky hand.

“Mr. Creek, can you hear me?” A feminine voice could be heard over the phone. “You need to get to the hospital as soon as possible. Your daughter has been transferred to the emergency room again.”

Miles Creek forced down his rising fear and he tried not to get too emotional. “Doctor, what are you saying?! You said Kelsey’s heart problem would take, at least, two more months before she could possibly face another issue.”

“Mr. Creek, I know what I said, but these things can’t be fully guaranteed. I never expected your daughter’s body to suddenly reject our treatment.” The doctor sighed. “Listen, Mr. Miles, just get here as fast as you can.” The call was immediately ended.

Miles’ breath picked up in panic and he immediately informed his co-workers and superior.

“Are you kidding me, Miles?! You can’t just leave your post whenever you feel like it.” The head of security is an older chubby man currently looking at Miles with a disdainful stare.

“I’m so sorry, but this is my little girl’s life on the line here; nothing is more important than that.” Miles didn’t wait for a reply and neither did he wait for his superior’s permission to leave before he ran out of the large corporation building.

Miles quickly got into a taxi and as the vehicle drove off, he glanced back at the shrinking corporation building. It was at this moment he realized he hadn't informed his wife. He quickly dialed his wife's number but he was immediately directed to her voicemail.

“Lola, you need to get to the hospital right now. I just got off the phone with Kelsey’s doctor; our daughter’s heart is getting worse. Please, call me as soon as you get this.” Miles’ voice broke at the end of that sentence as he ended the message.

While Miles and his wife, Lola Blaine, work at Styleon Group, their respective roles in the company couldn’t be any further from balanced. While Lola was a dutiful and well-respected sales manager at the company, Miles was simply a security guard who was constantly looked down on by everyone, including his co-workers.

Less than an hour later, the taxi arrived at a huge medical building. This was the hospital where his little Kelsey was receiving treatment. He rushed into the building and up the elevator until he got to the right floor. He then rushed to the receptionist, stating he was there for his daughter.

The nurse looked hesitantly at the sweaty man in a security uniform briefly before typing away at her computer. “Well, the good news is that your daughter is currently out of danger, but I’m afraid the doctor can’t see you right now.”

“What?!” Miles didn’t even have enough time to rejoice that his daughter was currently safe. “But then why was I called so urgently?”

"Oh, that! The doctor left a message for you." The nurse had a fake smile on her face. It was clear that she didn't like Miles at all for some reason. "Even though your daughter's condition is stable, we need to resume her medication. Unfortunately, we can't do that unless you pay, at least, 50% of the medical expenses."

Miles became quiet. Kelsey’s medical bill was well over $300,000, and he knew his bank account had nowhere near $150,000. At the moment he was wallowing in his predicament, a familiar voice reached him.

“Miles, how’s my baby girl?!”

A pleasant smile unconsciously spread on Miles’ face as he turned around to find his wife rushing towards him. She must have gotten his voicemail and rushed over to the hospital. He was about to express how glad he was to see her when he saw that Lola wasn’t alone. His smile quickly faded into a sour expression as he caught sight of the man right behind her.

“Babe, what is Mr. Porsche doing here?”
