Everyone gathered in the courtyard as they waited for the princess to arrive. The solemn atomsphere was so thick it could be cut with a knife. The party that had been seriously injured was close to the front, with Franklin's body covered with a sheet. Even though everyone else was trying to be polite and ignore their appearance, it was hard to ignore all the bandages or the massive injuries that littered their bodies.
Some people appeared to be on the verge of becoming sick. It was really a horrific sight for those not used to it. Despite the fact that they had already killed a living being, killing a goblin was not the same as witnessing another human being be injured or killed. While the goblins might have bled red, it was easy for some to pretend the blood wasn't red or for others to block the memory.
This would undoubtedly make everyone realize their mortality and take things more se
Luke perked up, as he was curious to hear what her plan was. Since what happened couldn't be something she had planned to happen, the princess would have to have come up with it on the spot or it was something she had already planned for in case of emergencies. He wondered which one it was and what the plan entailed."Sir Gilbert has agreed to increase your training tenfold, and several of our knights have volunteered to join the parties. I hope this would ease your concerns," the princess said.If that was all her plan amounted to, then he was sorely disappointed in her. She had been the one to plan his demise, and this was all she could come up with. Granted, he was unaware of many things in his previous life, but still, it was certainly not up to par with what he expected of her. Perhaps he was overestimating her since it was four years into the future. It was possible that she hadn't reached that point yet.Scanning the crowd, he could see others just as unimpressed with her answe
The first one to speak up was Alyssa. "Your highness, your support is undeniably welcomed, but will the knights be able to keep up with us? I was under the impression that heroes were more powerful than the kingdom's knights."This caused a few people to stare at her in confusion, while others seemed to catch on to what she was trying to say. The reason why they had been summoned in the first place was because the kingdom couldn't handle the demons on its own. If the knights could fight better than they could, then there would have been no point in summoning them. Luke wondered how the princess was going to get out of this."I understand your concerns. While it is true that only heroes can save the kingdom, it's clear you haven't reached your full potential," the princess said. "Thus, I will entrust your care to my knights until your strength finally surpasses them."
"Hello, we will be joining your party. Please take good care of us," the young knight said. The party studied the five knights that would be joining them. Most of them looked relatively young, which didn't spark a lot of confidence in the party. It was hard to imagine that these knights would be more skilled than them since they couldn't have been training for long unless they were all naturally young looking. They all wondered if everyone else had the same issue.Theodore was the one who looked the most pissed about it, which came as no surprise to anyone. Bobby and Chris had mixed feelings about them but were reserving judgment until they saw them in action. Luke, on the other hand, was trying to figure them out and determine whether or not they were being blackmailed or bribed. The only one who seemed at least welcoming to the new arrivals was Grace.
"Grace, there's something I want to talk to you about," Luke said. The moment those words left his mouth, he swore he saw her flinch. It was so small that he would have missed it if he hadn't been watching her closely. Now he was even more suspicious of her behavior. There was no reason for her to react poorly when all he said was that he wanted to talk with her."Okay," she agreed easily, despite her earlier reaction."Huh? What are you two going?" asked Bobby."It's something private," said Luke. The look on Bobby and Chris's face didn't reassure him as Chris said, "Oh, I see."Not wanting to hear what they had to say, Luke quickly said, "We're going."Luke took Grace's hand and led her away from the rest of the p
"I'm beat," Chris said as he leaned against Bobby.Bobby groaned. "No kidding. I didn't think the training could get any worse."Theodore scoffed. "You're tired already? This is nothing."Chris and Bobby threw dirty looks at him as Bobby said, "Not all of us can be all muscle."They glared daggers at each other as Grace tried to intervene by getting in between them and calming them down. Luke watched all this transpire from the side as he rested his cheek against his hand. The party's unity was still poor, but he had expected as much when he had allowed Theodore to join their party, and the party was still young. It was unrealistic to expect a party that had only been together for a few weeks to compare with a party that had been together for years."What was that?" demanded Theodore
No one was too pleased with the idea that they had to continue the joint training session, but they had no choice. Sir Gilbert wasn't going to end them until he was satisfied that they had some form of teamwork that wouldn't endanger them while they were out on the front. They had already lost one hero just when he took a step oustide the castle walls. It would only get worse from there if they weren't sufficiently prepared. The following days were grueling, and several fights broke out as people lost their tempers. Fortunately, it hadn't been Luke's party that saw the most fights happening though this fact surprised many people. It was impossible not to expect Theodore to pick a fight with the knights, who were just as eager to fight with him. However, the party that got the award for being the most out of control had been the biggest party.Luke wasn't completely surprised by this fact
Luke didn't know how he ended up in this situation. No, not just him. He couldn't figure out how his party and the knights ended up going shopping when all of them had unanimously agreed that they didn't like the activity. His eyes turned to the only female member in their group, who looked like a cat that caught the canary. The power of the Saintess was truly unstoppable, as Grace seemed to pull off new tricks each time, and she wasn't even a Saintess yet.[I'm glad I never had to deal with a Saintess in my time.]"Didn't you fight her in your previous life?" Luke muttered to himself as he made sure to cover his mouth to prevent anyone from noticing what he was doing.[That was at the end of my life. It doesn't count.]He chose not to push on the matter, as he was more focused on the fact that Grace was leading them t
Grace tried to peek in the blacksmith store to see how everyone inside was doing, but it was hard to tell since she couldn't hear anything they were saying. After being unable to figure out anything, she gave up and decided to leave them alone. Instead, she was studying the people around her. It would be hard to get Theodore to consider the knights as anything more than nuisances. He always appeared to be on the verge of snapping and beating the knights up.She knew that Luke wouldn't do anything that would cause trouble. He had admitted to her about his suspicions about them when the duo had found a moment of privacy. 'Kayla' was too busy with her own party, so they couldn't talk to her about it. While she didn't like to think the knights would do something so dishonorable, Luke knew more than her, so she had to trust his words. He hadn't led them astray thus far.Looking at the two knights with them, she asked, "What's it like being a knight?"The duo looked shocked that she would a
