Chapter 004

John did not need a soothsayer to guess what had happened. From the glare of Daniel to the exaggerated sobs of Aria, he could tell they had just had a disagreement, and he could guess why—The picture had secretly sent to Daniel had done its job. All that was left now was the divorce papers.

He had been patient enough with Aria, but she seemed reluctant to let Daniel go. He could not keep waiting for her to make the move to divorce Daniel when he could do something about it.

He suppressed a smirk, wrapping his arms around her in a protective stance while glaring at Daniel. He felt her relax in his arms, sobbing into his chest.

"He slapped me," she sobbed dramatically.

Daniel was not moved by the drama she was acting. She had not been much of a true actress anyway. He was the one who had made her get the huge roles that had taken her to the top.

"How dare you? You should be ashamed of yourself. A man should never hit a woman. Don't you know you're married to a gem who anyone would give anything to have?!"

Aria's lips curved upwards in a smile. She was indeed a lucky woman to have a man like John looking out for her. He was not just a caring man. He was also a good actor who had great potential.

"You should be jailed for assaulting a woman!" He ranted on.

Daniel sneered at him. He recognised the man as the man from the picture, and his gaze hardened all the more. Beyond that, something about the strange man hugging Aria looked familiar.

"Moonlight," he stated cryptically, staring directly into the wide and heavy eyes of Aria. "It's him, isn't it?"

She shuddered, her eyes avoiding the heated gaze of Daniel.

"What did you say?" She stuttered, staring at Daniel like he had two heads.

Daniel had recognised John as the man from an old photobook that he had found once in Aria's possession. The book seemed like something she treasured because she had hidden it deep in her wardrobe, and it was decorated with so many hearts and glitters. It contained images of when she was younger until her adolescence. That was here he had seen numerous pictures of John, who she had nicknamed 'Moonlight'.

He shook his head, piecing the puzzle together. Of course. This was her first love. He shook his head sadly.

"What a shame," he continued, ignoring her question. "Are you really throwing away our marriage for a silly childhood crush? I'd call that a foolish bargain."

Aria's eyes grew cold. She had had enough at this point. She would not listen to him insult her for following her heart.

"Let's get divorced!" She snapped, rising to her feet with the help of John. After a short while of rummaging through her bag, she pulled out a crisp document and flung it in his direction. "Sign it!"

Daniel caught the document indifferently. He skimmed the words that pronounced that Aria was no longer interested in their marriage. Although he had expected this from her, it still tore him painfully. He glanced at her.

She scoffed with her nose raised. "I've tried. I stayed with you, and you added no value to me. Now, I'm done settling for less. I deserve better," she stated, her eyes gleaming to emphasise her words. "I just won an award yesterday due to my hard work. I worked hard to become a megastar that people now celebrate! Do you even know what hard work is? All you do is hang on me like a leech!"

"You don't even feel bad about your lack or ambition. You are so satisfied with being beneath the status quo, as a good-for-nothing house husband. It ends now!"

Daniel was done listening to her. Bitterness took over him, and he felt like his blood had become gall. His generosity and kindness to this woman had come back to bite him where it hurt the most.

'I should have known better,' he chided himself bitterly. Pulling himself together, he was comforted with the fact that he had not revealed his identity to her as he planned to the previous night.

His plan was to reveal the fact that he was one of the lords in the entertainment space and to give her the shares of Rochdale that anyone would give anything to have. His plan was to make her life beautiful, helping her live a life of her dreams while chasing a career as a hobby.

Well, it turned out that fate was prophetic. It had taken such a dark but needed turn to show just how vain and pathetic she was. She was an ingrate who thought she was bigger than everyone just because she got a glimpse of being on the top.

If only she knew how much more she would have been if she did not look down on him.

"You want a divorce. That's what you'll get," he stated simply.

His words felt like heaps of coal being poured on her heart, but she hung her head, refusing to listen to the voice of reasoning in her head.

John watched the scene unfold with a merry heart. His wish was finally granted. Now, he could go on with his plans with Aria.

Irritated, he pulled out a pen and signed the papers with a sharp intake of breath. Once he was done, he flung it in her direction.

Aria watched through long lashes as he gracefully strode out of the house, feeling a sinking in her guts. He did not look sad or perturbed. She wondered why she felt like a part of her had been roughly taken away.

The document flew around her, detaching from its bind by the force with which it was flung, making papers to fall on her like rain.

She stared at the door after he had gone, not knowing what to do. She had her wish now, but she still felt sad.

John pressed his lips on her temple, hugging her. "It was brave of you to confront that leech, babe. Now we can be together and do great things together."

She sighed with a smile. He was right.

John was the perfect man for her. He was in her class. Though his acting career was not as high as hers, she planned to use her influence to get him a huge role as well. She would speak to her director to cast him for the male lead role in her next movie. They would be the best celebrity couple.

She smiled to herself, wrapping her arms around him with a sigh of satisfaction...
