Rise of the Enigmatic Daniel Wells

Chapter 005

Daniel walked far away from the large house, feeling relieved, but the feeling of dejection still swam somewhere in his mind.

Never in a million years would he imagine that Aria would treat him this way. He wiped the beads of sweat from off his brows. It was better she had revealed her true colours now, rather than after he had told her his true identity.

The scorching sun soon reminded him that he had nowhere to go.. yet. Then, it struck him. The house where those adulterous couple had sent him out of belonged to him after all. If anyone had to leave, it should be them and not him.

He felt his rage simmer within him again, but he controlled himself. He could not act impulsively. It would not speak well of a man of like him. He would take his time to teach them a lesson that they would never forget, he assured himself, walking across the duty road.

When his phone rang in his pocket, he paused in his steps. It was Regina.

"Good day, Mr Wells," her voice sounded professional as always. "As you asked, I have arranged another movie with the director. Your wife will be the lead actress. It's one of a kind, and I have no doubts that it will be a blockbuster. This would mean your wife will be more popular and greater height for her career."

Daniel was silent for a moment. He kicked off some pebbles on the ground as he pondered on his wife's betrayal again. Was that stupid crush of hers worth her losing her career? Well, she was about to find out.

"We're divorced."

There was silence on the other end of the line for a moment. Regina did not know how to react to the news. It came as a shock to her because just a few hours ago, she had given him the document of the shares of Rochdale for his wife, and now they were no longer together.

"Are you there?"

She cleared her throat, "Yes, sir. I will cancel the arrangements at once." Her pitch was a time higher than usual, making Daniel wonder if she was alright.

"I'm sorry, sir. I will get to it now," she stated in a more professional voice before ending the call. She almost danced in her chair at the news of the divorce.

She felt a smile crawl up her cheeks. Finally, that unworthy woman was thrown out of Mr Wells' life.

'Aria wasn't even worthy of him anyway,' she thought. She finally had a chance with the super rich and super handsome CEO. She swivelled in her chair, wearing a wide grin and twirling her hair. 'The great Daniel Wells deserved someone better.'

Now that the silly woman who stood in her way of getting the Daniel Wells was out of the picture, she had a chance.

'If only she knew how many people would love to have the man she just dumped,' Regina soliloquized, her eyes gleaming with delight. She had always admired and coveted Daniel Wells.

She let out a dreamy sigh, lost in her thoughts until a knock came on her door.

"Ms Regina," a staff called, causing her to sit straight, wearing her signature blank face. It would not speak well of her for those under her to see the person they recognised as the CEO this disorganised.

She cleared her throat. "Come in."

It was her assistant who had come to remind her of a meeting she had with an entertainment company, who were seeking her partnership on a project. She sighed.

"I'll be there in a moment," she replied dismissively.

When he left, she called the director, Cleff.

"Madam Regina, good day," he greeted sharply, his voice reverent. "Is anything the matter? I have begun the processes for Mrs Aria to be the lead actress, and I will announce her as that when we have the cast selections party."

Regina drummed her fingers on the desk. "No, Cleff. As a matter of fact, I call you to ask that you cancel every of the arrangements you made. Aria's careeer will no longer be supported by Mr Wells. You must not cast her for any major role anymore."

Director Cleff fell silent on the other end of the line before responding.

He did not think much of Aria's acting skills either. He knew other actresses who were much better than Aria, but he couldn't help but wonder what the reason for the sudden decision of Mr Wells was. He wondered what Aria could have done.

Aria Symore had become an award winning actress after all, so no doubt, it would be a plus to have her in the movie.

"I hate to repeat myself, Cleff," Regina's cold voice cut through the director's thought.

Choosing his words carefully, he replied, "I will do as you have said, ma'am, but do you have any other person in mind?" The respect in his voice was evident as he did not want to offend the acting CEO of the entertainment company that had been a huge support to his company.

Regina relaxed into her seat. "None that I know of. That would be all. Have a good day, Mr Cleff."

Daniel walked and walked for hours, seemingly aimlessly until he came to an old, remote cemetery miles away from the house.

All he wanted to do was to pay tribute to her and rant to his mother about his failed marriage and how much he felt like a failure despite his business's success.

When he got to her tomb, the flowers he got for her dropped on the grave on its own accord as his fingers trembled slightly. He stooped low enough to allow his fingers to graze the coarse surface.

It had been five years since her death, yet he had not gotten over it.

"Mum—"

He was speaking when he was cut short by a bloodcurling scream in the distance.

Staring around, he saw no one around him, and there was silence for a moment.

Hee turned back to his mother's grave to continue his rant when the screams became louder.

Unable to ignore it anymore, he rose to his feet, mentally apologising to his mother for having to leave abruptly before rushing on the direction of the screams.

He soon got to the location of the gruesome screams, and the sight before him made his blood boil.

A lady was wriggling on the ground, obviously being harrassed by six tall, burly men. She was struggling to set herself free, but they subdued her, holding her down while one of them unbuckled his belt.

Unable to bear the sight, Daniel swung into action, running to the centre of the evil. His knuckles collided with the jaws of the man who was unbuckling his belt. The man staggered backwards with a loud groan.

While Daniel warded him off, the rest of the gang tried to hold him down, but he gave one a jab in the eye and the other a punch in his guts.

In a blink of an eye, the crying and whimpering lady was free of the scoundrels. She watched as Daniel valiantly lunged at the men, doing them serious damages as he broke their noses, their fingers, and even knees, one where the sun doesn't shine.

"Are you alright?" He asked her calmly.

She looked up at him with a tear-stained face and red nose.

"Look out—" she screamed at him, but it was late.

One of the thugs—the largest of them—held him down while the others pounced on him at the same time.

Daniel struggled to set himself free, but they were working together.

The lady, however—now free from them—charged at them with great force, targeting their crotches as she punched each of them, leaving them groaning in pain.

"I guess the Knight in shining armour was eventually rescued by the damsel in distress."

Daniel looked up at the lady who looked so familiar yet strange to him with a puzzled countenance..
