“William, I’ll explain everything to you, if you give me a chance.” Bill remained seated, looking at the flustered young man.
“I really am related to the McArthur?” Even though William knew his mother had the same last name as this man, he didn’t dare indulge the thought that they were related in any way, and yet, it truly did turn out that way. William slowly sat back down; he was still a little dazed. “Okay, I’m listening.”
Bill shared a glance with Mike. “Sarah McArthur is the only child I ever had with my late wife. I loved her with everything as a father should, and she grew up to be a brilliant woman.” Bill’s warm gaze suddenly turned cold. “Then your father, Derek Chain, came along and destroyed it all.”
“My father?” William looked at the man with confusion.
"Your biological father was a poverty-stricken man who had managed to worm his way into my daughter’s heart, and she ended up falling deeply in love with him.” Bill banged the table in anger.
“Easy there, Master McArthur.” Mike stared at the older man with a light glare. “Remember what the doctor said about your emotions and health.”
"Whatever," Bill grunted out his displeasure, but he listened to Mike's warning and calmed himself.
William realized that Bill must really value Mike a lot.
“Anyways,” Bill continued. “Despite my best efforts to keep them apart, Sarah still ended up with him and I found out late that she was pregnant.” Bill took in a deep breath. “You can imagine how furious I was.”
“What did you do then?” William kept his sharp eyes on his grandfather. He was smart enough to know his mother wouldn’t have been separated from her father if something didn’t happen between them.
Bill sighed at this question. “I gave her an ultimatum: Either she terminated the baby or I disown her.” He saw the fury, anger, and dejection all mixed in William’s gaze. If Sarah had terminated that pregnancy like he wanted, William would have never been alive today. “Instead, she fled with your father. When I found out, I immediately exiled her from the family.”
William decided it was best to not comment until he heard the whole story. Thus, he quickly contained his emotions. “What happened next?”
“Years passed by but she never came to me, and I retaliated by never looking for her.” Bill sighed again; there was a deep weariness all over his face. “I was a middle-aged king in wealth, influence, and status. I had too much ego back then, but experience with age has a way of slowly teaching you the power of humility. I was getting older and, thankfully, wiser. I realized I needed to find my daughter and reconcile our differences. Three years ago, I hired an agent to find my daughter, but for some reason, he couldn’t find her.”
“I see.” William nodded his head stiffly.
Bill could only look down in shame. “When the agent finally located your mother, I learned she had remarried to a billionaire after Derek passed away and she was hidden away. This was a few days ago.” His voice suddenly cracked at this point. “By the time I could reach out to Sarah, she was in the hospital and she couldn’t be saved on time.” He shuddered as he sobbed briefly.
“As if by miracle, I was able to see her through her last few minutes before she succumbed to death, that was when I knew she had a son from that pregnancy and that was you, Williams.” He finally found the courage to look his grandson in the eye. “At that moment, I vowed to not lose you as I foolishly lost Sarah.”
Tears ran down William’s face when he heard this. “Is that all?” He was furious. “This wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t treat my mom that way. No matter what you thought of my father, you could have respected your daughter’s wish to be with him.”
He glanced around the office. “Besides, you’re wealthy enough to live in such a humungous estate. Why didn’t you just help my father secure a good job if you detested his financial status so much, huh?” He stood up from his seat as he pointed a finger at the old man.
“Instead, you abandoned your daughter for twenty-five years without so much as a visit. Do you have any idea what Mom and I went through, especially at the hands of that devil called Woodruff? The countless humiliations I dealt with daily because I didn't have any money or strong backing to stand my ground. There are humiliating and degrading videos of me all over the internet.” He pointed the finger at himself as the tears continued to roll down his face. “All my life, I endured being nothing but a joke to the world because I thought I had no one, when all this time, I was related to you.”
“Young Master William, please, calm down.” Mike walked forward, attempting to appease the young man.
“No!” William turned around with so much authority in that one word. It seemed like the dominant trait of the McArthur blood was finally revealing itself in him. “Grandpa, you have failed as a father to my mother.”
“I know!” Bill raised his voice as he stood straight; his posture brimmed with power despite his age. “I’m well aware that I failed Sarah as a father, and that guilt will stay with me the day I die!”
Bill’s admission to his fault managed to calm William down enough to see the old man was hurting just as much as he was.
Bill wasn’t done talking though. “All I want right now is to not repeat that with you. I beg you, William, to give me that chance.” He walked from behind his desk and was about to kneel before William but the young man quickly caught him.
William took a good look into his grandfather’s eyes to find he truly meant every word he said. “Fine, I forgive you.”
A wave of relief washed through Bill and he grabbed his grandson into a warm hug for the first time.
They ended the hug and Bill looked at William. “Know this, William. Your life has changed forever. You are the long-awaited heir to the trillion-dollar empire that is the McArthur Conglomerate.”
William’s eyes widened in shock. “D..Did you just say Trillion-dollar Empire?”
Following this, an ocean of wealth and resources was revealed to William.
“Just to be clear, you’re saying the family business is a Trillion-dollar Empire?!” William stared at his grandfather in utter shock.Billiard chuckled at the somewhat comical expression on William’s face before glancing at Mike. “Fill in my grandson, will you?”Mike nodded with a warm smirk. "Young Master William, the McArthur Empire is a primary shareholder and secondary conglomerate mega-corporation."William nodded his head despite his slight confusion. “You mean our empire primarily owns and maintains company stocks as a Holding Company while complete ownership of multiple company branches comes second?”Billiard chuckled. “Well done, my grandson! You’re just as brilliant as I’ve been told!”"So how much stocks do the family empire control, and how much belongs to us?" William refused to dwell on the compliment from his grandfather, which warmed his heart a lot. Apart from his mother, he rarely got any compliments from the people around him.“Every single piece of company stock u
“Once you do that, you’ll officially be the true and undisputable heir of the McArthur.”After those words fell on William's ears, he couldn't help the doubt that rose in his heart. All his life, he had grown up in poverty and had to deal with so much humiliation just to survive. Now, he's seated before one of the most powerful men in the entire world, who turned out to be his grandfather, and he is now being handed access to all the assets in trillions of dollars. Is he worthy of getting all this? Can he guarantee he has what it takes to uphold such a powerful name and make his dead mother proud? Memories of the degrading names that people like Donald, Ayra, and Wilson had called him began flooding in and his heart began racing as he was quickly drowning in self-doubt.Meanwhile, Billiard, who had spent his whole life learning how to read people's intentions through their eyes, could see the doubt being reflected in his grandson's eyes. He kept quiet though as he stared at him. He k
"Mr. Mike, this is worth more than $20 million!" William couldn't look away from the object on the table where he was seated.“Please, call me Head-Butler Mike, Young Master William. It’s more appropriate that way.” Mike slightly bowed with a smile. “As for this, Master Bill instructed that I get you the latest phone as we noticed you were using a thoroughly outdated one. It’s beneath the McArthur status to be caught with such an old item that holds no value.”William could only murmur his reply to Mike's words as his eyes remained glued on the rectangular object. Right in front of his eyes is the latest version of a top-tier phone brand. What made this so expensive was the fact that the phone's entire body is made with 24-carat gold while the screen is made out of the purest diamonds. After minutes of staring at the phone like it would disappear at any time, William finally found the strength to look away as he turned to Billiard. “Grandpa, isn’t this a little too much?” Though he fe
Billiard nodded once he saw this. “William, as the true heir to the empire, you have now been granted access to twenty percent of the family’s treasure vaults across the various banks in the world.”William whipped his head up so fast, that his neck made a sharp crack. “What?!” He only got another head nod from his grandfather and he waited until all the notifications had completely popped up before he went through each one. "Grandpa, these are welcome messages from over forty banks across the continent!"Mike remained standing with his usual calm demeanor. “Do you recognize any of these bank names, Young Master?”William nodded as he kept going through the notifications to find there were all welcome messages. “Of course I do! These are some of the biggest banks in the world, and they are all congratulating me on my access to the McArthur vault.” He turned his head to look at his grandfather. “Is this what I think it is?”“What do you think this is about?” Billiard had a mischievous
William couldn’t help it and his heart began racing. He watched as Mike brought out a separate phone to dial a number before placing it on the desk. The repeated loud rings made it clear that the phone had been put on speaker and William could hear all that was going on. The ringing tone didn’t take up to five seconds before the call was quickly answered. “H..Hello, Good afternoon, Mr. McArthur. How m…may I help you?” William was in shock as he soon realized this was the Bel Air University's VC who was speaking on the phone. His heart raced even faster as he wondered why the McArthur patriarch was calling this man. He could hear the barely contained heavy breathing coming from the VC, as he was stuttering a lot, which made William deduce that the VC not only knew who Billiard McArthur was, but he was also scared of him. “Roman Brakovic, this is Mike Barathea, the head butler of the McArthur Estate. You’re currently on the phone with my master.” Despite things being obvious, Mike s
William looked up with a stunned gaze when he found the brooding state his grandfather was in as he spoke to the VC on the phone. Just from their expressions, he could tell that both Billiard and Mike were deeply angered by the things Roman Brakovic had said about him and his mother. His heart welled with gratitude as he reminded himself that he hadn't only obtained a massive wealth, but he now also had true family members who would fight for him whenever he was wronged. He reminded himself that he was no longer alone.Meanwhile, Roman's voice had become panicked at this point. After Billiard's straightforward threat, he knew he would lose everything if he told one more lie. "I'm deeply sorry for everything I said about William Chain, Mr. McArthur! To be honest, most of what I told you just now was what had been reported to me.""And as the Vice Chancellor of the university, you didn't think to investigate the matter before making your judgments. Are you telling me you would rather m
“You heard me.” William’s remained resolute in his demand. “Did you not realize how humiliating it is to have me expelled in that manner? My name had been tarnished since every student on campus now believes that I truly stole Wilson’s wristwatch.” There was fury on Ramon’s face as he stared at the confident expression on William’s face. If not for the fact that he had been ordered by Mr. McArthur, of all people, he would have never entertained the thought of trying to meet this poverty-stricken young man’s demand. He was sure the only reason the McArthurs wanted William’s expulsion revoked was because he was an exceedingly brilliant student and that family loved supporting those who are worth it. Either way, it meant that he had to be careful to not make William angry in any way. Ramon Brakovic wiped his face with frustration. “Very well, I will ensure I make a public apology to you as long as you promise to resume classes immediately.” "I accept." William's expression remained pl
Andre Leverque was losing his mind. It has been five days since he saw William last, which was when he had been dragged and locked out of the campus following his sudden expulsion. By the time he had made it past the gate to go check on his best friend, William had already entered a taxi and zoomed off. Knowing William, he could only imagine the amount of self-pity the young man was drowning in. He had always prioritized his education, so much that he had endured the bully and humiliation from people like the Camillo twins who just loved to make William’s life miserable.Andre had dialed William's phone number after he had taken that taxi, except William wouldn't pick up his calls; he was left with no choice but to leave multiple voicemails. By the next morning, he couldn't even reach William at all as his phone was now switched off and the twenty-five-year-old man never came home. It was at this point he began to get really worried. The fact that William didn't take a single call of
