Chapter 16 - A new record for the Country!

"I want to take both the tests, Sir"

Roger said standing in between the two groups!

Joshua who was about to start examining the candidates looked at him. All the other cadet's also turned towards him as they found a new cadet wanting to take both tests surprising.

'Is that the famous Useless Son-in-law of the Taylors?'

He thought looking at Roger.

'He wants to do both the Physical test and skill manifestation test? Usually, it's recommended to focus on only one... Is he trying to show off now? '

He glared at Roger thinking that he is using the chance to show off, but Roger didn't back down, he stood his ground against the S-rank.

'Well, it's none of my business!'

"Come forward, we will do your test first"

Honestly, he just wanted to get done with the test and go home, He was already too tired that he didn't want to even argue with anyone.

Roger nodded his head walking ahead. he could sense cold gazes from other cadets but it wasn't anything new for him who was practically treated as a piece of Shit in the Taylor household.

Coming forward he stood in front of the machine which looked like a huge robot except that in the place of its stomach there was something like a punching bag and on its face was a digital display.

"Hit it as hard as you can," Joshua said standing at a certain distance away from the machine.

"I just have to hit that thing right?"

Roger asked him once again to confirm if he heard him right!

"Yeah! you just need to hit that as hard as you can, The machine will analyze the power behind the punch and will display a score for you"

"Oh!"

Roger exclaimed at this explanation as he found the machine pretty interesting!

Looking at his exclaimed face, Joshua decide to spice things up a little since he was trying so hard to show up, he need to make sure to crush his spirit right?

"The highest record for the new awakened is 1.24 which was scored by William Jones of US ten years ago, and the best in our country was 1.69 scored by none other than the third son of Ṭaylors, you might know about it, right?"

How could he not! It was a hot matter when his brother-in-law, the third son of the Taylors awakened, not only was he an Irregular, he had immense physical power, He was called the rising star at that time!

"Hmm"

Roger nodded slightly as he got ready to give it his best shot!

His father-in-law has promised to protect him for six months but no matter how much he tries to increase his power, he still couldn't escape from the danger of his wife's siblings, not even with the power of the system.

So, his only hope now was to catch the attention of his father-in-law, He planned to go all out and show his father-in-law how much of a talent he was!

That way even his father-in-law himself couldn't help but protect him, even in the off case he rejects to offer any support to Roger, The Taylors had many enemies, and any of them would welcome him with open hands!

Roger thought about all the humiliation he had faced and took the posture to puch! He took his hand back pushed it with the palm of his other hand and firmly planted his foot on the ground.

He decided to use 'Hateful strike' and took a deep breath in, the thoughts of him getting bullied filled his head.

He released his hand which was headed straight towards the machine...But at the last second, a variable occurred!

['Hateful strike' is activated!]

[Your next attack will deal 100% more damage]

The passive which he thought was uselessly activated for the first time!

But the problem was the time that it activated! He was already using hateful strike combined with his 22 stat in strength which would deal damage equivalent to 44, which was already at the rage of upper E rank!

But now that the passive also activated, his strength jumped to 32 although only for 10s, it meant that his next attack would deal damage equivalent to 64 stat in strength, which was the damage range of low-class D-rank!!

'F*ck!'

Roger cursed inside, as even though he wanted to show off! A newbie awakening the strength of D-rank would be too much, He had no thoughts of becoming a scapegoat of all the channels that would make a mess of things if he ever got evaluated as D-rank!

So, at the last second when the punch was about to land on the machine he made effort to pull back his hand!

Though he tried the result was obvious! a loud sound resonated in the massive room as the giant machine was pushed back about two meters due to the impact!!

The candidates and the examiners had their mouths wide open seeing the machine!

'Is that really the use-less son-in-law of the Rogers?'

'Isn't he supposed to be a useless loser?'

'What's with that strength? How much did he score?'

Everyone had such thoughts on their heads and slowly turned towards the head of the machine!

1.25!!

'what the..!'

'1.24!'

Everyone exclaimed seeing the score on the machine! it was 1.25! just 0.01 less than the world record!!

Everyone turned towards the man who was now standing in front of the machine, he was a bit sweaty and his face looked pale but other than that he was completely fine!

"A new record!"

someone in the group exclaimed loudly!

" A new record of the country!"

And shortly after exclamations broke out all around the massive room!

And right in the middle of all that chaos, Joshua was standing looking at Roger stupified, but for a whole different reason!

'What did I see just now? Did he really hold back his power at the last movement!!?'
