Chapter 6

Alec could hear the commotion as soon as he stepped out of the elevator including Harrison but it felt strange and that was because it was not only the fact that the commotion was one thing to settle but because the voice was utterly familiar. Alec just couldn't pinpoint where exactly he heard the voice.

“This way, sir” Harrison said immediately they got to the entrance of room 106 only to come in contact with Sheila and one of his staff being bullied.

“Where is the owner of this hotel? I will lock it down!” Sheila threatened. But within her, she knew that she couldn't do anything. She was just an HR and besides, her company was nothing compared to Alec's five star hotel.

“What's going on?” Alec asked, not caring to show if he knew Sheila in the past or not.

“What are you doing here? I thought you were fired? Hold on, why are you all so bent on ruining my day? Do you think I would give you a chance to explain yourself?” Sheila asked in anger and scanned through him.

He was not on his usual clothes and shoes. Then, she thought: Ohh, he must have come here to beg me in new shoes.

Sheila laughed at that thought. This man was really silly!

“Listen, I have nothing to do with you again. You do not deserve a second chance and so, I will never give you anymore!’

“And who said I am here for that?” Alec asked, completely annoyed. Harrison didn't understand what was going on but one thing he knew was that his boss probably knew whom this woman was.

“How dare you talk to me that way? Do you know that I can sue you for this?”

Alec released a sigh. He wouldn't want anyone to get on his bad side. After all, having so much money can also make you do the unthinkable.

“I heard you want to meet the owner of the hotel?” Alec said indifferently. Sheila looked at him and frowned, wondering what he was talking about.

“Have you gone to hire these people while you go ahead to tell claims saying you are the owner? Alec, come on, we both knew how much you earned while you were under me. Nothing less than a thousand dollars.” She said and continued,

“It was barely enough to settle your medical bills and you never even spent much. Just a cloth and shoes and now, you claim you are the owner of this hotel? If you are the owner of the hotel, I am the owner of the city!” Sheila said firmly.

“Here am I, the CEO of this hotel. I'm sorry for what may have happened between my staff and I”

He said and stared at his staff who seemed sad. She was not sad because of what happened however but sad because she thought that her boss may be a man of perfection and therefore, may want to fire her based on what happened.

But Alec was not staring at her because of that. He stared at her bruises. Sheila was an hot tempered woman. She would never agree to whatever anyone said and believed she was always right.

Was that one of the many reasons that her husband had moved on with his girlfriend? Alec thought.

“You must be kidding. If you do not show me whom your CEO is, I will sue this hotel”

“Sheila?” Alec called out. Sheila looked at him in shock.

How dare he call her by her name? Only people with high class did that. He was not on the same level with this man!

“Did you just call me by my name?” She asked, wanting to be sure.

“In as much as you have offended me greatly in the past, I would never take an offense to that. But what I will not agree to is you hitting my staff anyhow!” He said authoratively.

Harrison looked at him in shock. Wasn't this man supposed to be begging this woman who threatened to report his hotel?

“We both know that your company isn't up to this hotel and cut the crap of you trying to threaten me! If you ever hit any of my staff, I will sue you!”

Sheila looked at him for a while and sneered. Did that loser just talk to her that way?

“And you, are you okay?” Alec asked his injured staff. He felt she needed to treat her wound. It was pretty obvious and never would he let any of his staff be treated unjustly just the same way he was.

“I'll be fine, sir” she said. Alec looked through her collar and saw her name, Debby Green.

“Debby, would you like to go out to cool your head and tend your wound?” He asked.

Debby felt it was too much for her boss. In fact, She was one of those people that felt that Alec was probably not the owner of the hotel. What if he was sent by someone to buy the hotel in his stead? Nevertheless, she was grateful that this man stood up for her.

However, while he was about to say something else, his phone rang. He knew at once that it was his landlord.

After all, the man had a specific time he made call to him. Alec didn't blame the man after all. He was 4 months behind on his rent.

Seeing his call made Alec remembered those days whereby whenever he came back from work late at night, he would have to sneak into the poor compound. He didn't want anyone embarasing him because he had not paid. It wasn't that he didn't have the money to pay but he had to do everything he could to save his relationship with Sophie back then.

But now, he would make sure to give that man double of what he owed him since he seemed a bit patient with him even though he was usually harsh towards Alec while being nice at other neighbours.
