Chapter 9: The Deal Between Aarav and Watson

In the end Aarav has no other choice after incident after incident happened to him since yesterday.

"Mr. Watson, the person you wished to meet has arrived."

After Marcolin said through the screen of the box that served as a communication link, a towering and large door slowly opened. Aarav could hardly believe the shape of Watson's office had a door with a three-dimensional carved Greek motif, gilded at several points.

Aarav somehow became restless while waiting for the door to open. The location of Watson's office which was quite far from the general location of the company's employees made him unsure.

'Is this person going to harm me?' That's what Aarav thought as he looked at the door.

After both sides of the door opened to reveal a wide expanse of room, Aarav was taken aback. But his surprise didn't last long after Marcolin tapped him on the shoulder.

Aarav follows Marcolin's steps. Behind him were four male bodyguards. I don't know if Watson was really worried about his safety or if there was another reason.

As he entered the room, Aarav's eyes fell on the huge towering pillars. Almost all of the pillars have three gilded circular motifs. From the end of the door there was a red carpet stretching to the end of someone's office desk.

The thing that caught Aarav's attention was the chair behind the office desk which had its back to the direction of the entrance. Someone is sitting there.

"Greetings Mr Watson. I brought Mr Aarav."

The atmosphere became silent.

Aarav frowned at no reaction from Watson. The office chair doesn't move facing Aarav. Even waiting for a few seconds, Watson remained silent. Though, Aarav thought, shouldn't Watson be impatient to talk to him?

"Does he not want to meet me?" asked Aarav in a whisper to Watson.

Marcolin looked at Aarav with an even expression. But there was a hint of rebuke in his gaze.

"Give your regards," Marcolin said, instead of answering Aarav's question.

"What?" The shock made Aarav subconsciously raise his tone. "What for?"

Marcolin's gaze returned to the front. "Give your regards." Once again, Marcolin gave the command emphatically but slowly. "Mr. Watson would like to hear your regards."

Really, Aarav couldn't understand why Marcolin forced him to do that. Aarav shifted his gaze forward, for a few seconds he felt doubt sweep over his heart.

It wasn't that Aarav didn't want to respect Watson. But he still does not know whether Watson is a person who deserves respect or not.

Unfortunately, Marcolin looked at him with urgent eyes.

When Aarav just opened his mouth suddenly came Watson's low tone.

"No need to give me greetings, Aarav."

Aarav winced and closed his mouth again. The chair behind the office desk rotated very slowly, facing Aarav.

As soon as the chair had just half turned, Watson said again, "I have been waiting for the time when we could meet..."

Then, the chair was now facing completely towards Aarav.

Only then could Aarav see the figure of a man showing a face with a meaningful smile. His sharp, firm gaze seemed to exude the man's intimidating character. Aarav could feel the aura of a strong leader from Watson.

In fact, Aarav almost felt the hairs on his neck prickle.

"...Aarav William Matteo."

For a few moments Aarav could only stare at Watson. Aarav is surprised that Watson said his full name without any mistake. While Aarav had never met Watson before this. Was Watson really that close to Juliana—his mother even knew his full name?

"Wait. Why do you know my full name?" asked Aarav. He deliberately spoke in a way of asking for an answer.

Watson tapped his forefinger on the right armrest of the chair. From his furrowed brows, Aarav could tell Watson was thinking about something.

"How do I know your full name?" Watson precisely repeats Aarav's question. "Shouldn't Marcolin have explained everything already?"

When Watson's gaze turned to Marcolin to ask for confirmation, Marcolin had his head down for a moment. Then nodded his head.

"Yes, Mr. Watson," Marcolin replied.

After that, Watson again turned his gaze to Aarav. "Then why are you still asking?"

"Was my question wrong?" asked Aarav, deliberately throwing the question back.

Watson was surprised by Aarav's tone. No one spoke to him the way Aarav spoke. Her eyes glared at Aarav for a few seconds, then chuckled.

"No, it's only natural that you'd be confused. Over the years your parents had connections with me, but you don't know anything."

Aarav didn't answer, waiting for Watson's story to continue.

"Okay. Looks like it's time for the two of us to have a serious talk." Watson then held up two fingers, signaling Marcolin and the other four bodyguards to come out.

With a cold smile, Watson said "Just give me and Aarav a minute to talk alone."

Marcolin isn't sure about leaving Watson. However, Watson reassured through a nod of the head.

"Quickly get out of my room," Watson ordered again.

Aarav just woke up from his reverie. He noticed Marcolin and the four bodyguards looking at him suspiciously. Only for a moment, before they were seen forced to leave the room.

Now, only Aarav and Watson are left in Watson's office.

"Welcome, Aarav. You did not respond to my greeting," said Watson, who had widened a sweet smile. "I didn't know we would meet under these circumstances."

Aarav hasn't answered yet. The only thing that came to mind at that time was how Juliana could get to know Watson.

"I'm so sorry about Juliana's passing, Aarav. It was really unexpected because for me, she should have survived her illness." Watson ended the sentence with a soft sigh.

To be honest Aarav didn't fully believe Watson. Aarav's suspicions involuntarily radiated from the look in his eyes to Watson's interest.

Watson stood with a slight push back of the chair. Watson slowly stepped closer to Aarav.

The closer Watson got, the more Aarav felt

"But unfortunately you can't give all your money to your mother to fulfill your wife's lifestyle, right?"

Aarav's brow furrowed even more as he flinched. "What are you saying?" he asked, looking at Watson unsuspectingly. "Wait. Did you steal my private information?"

Watson, with a knowing smile, shook his head. His hands were placed behind his back while interlocked.

"No. Juliana told me. Do you know? I feel ... you should come with me and not marry your wife," Watson said very calmly.

"Ex-wife" corrected Aarav. "He already considered our marriage finished."

Instantly Watson's expression turned to pity. For a few seconds, Watson was silent.

"Even after you went into debt to fulfill his lifestyle?"

Somehow Aarav felt uncomfortable hearing Watson's question. It sounded like it was being sarcastic on purpose, and made Aarav even more reminded of his stupidity.

"I didn't come to discuss this," finally Aarav couldn't stop cutting the topic off the both of them. "Tell me. Why are you making such a big offer for such a large amount of money?"

Watson raised his eyebrows, interested in Aarav's question. But even though he was interested, Watson was slightly offended by Aarav's tone.

"Nobody's spoken to me as combative as you," said Watson. His memory plays Juliana warning him about Aarav. "I feel it's time for you to fight back, Aarav. Haven't you just received unfair treatment from people?"

'Help?' thought Aarav. Somehow the word seemed foreign to him. All this time, because he was used to fighting without someone on his side, he didn't trust anyone.

"Why should I need your help?" challenge Aarav.

Watson is not affected by the rather high intensity of Aarav's emotions.

"Aarav, your wife's affair, the allegations that you were involved in the illegal narcotics business, also the death of your father and your mother…" There was a pause. Watson tapped Aarav's right shoulder twice. "Don't you feel the anger in your chest?"

This time, Aarav doesn't answer anything.

"Why should you give in?" he asked. "Now, after everything you've got, what's left?"

There isn't any.

Aarav has nothing or anyone now. He definitely can't work in a factory anymore, even his restaurant business has been confiscated by the bank.

Aarav's good name was tarnished just moments after news of his illegal narcotics business spread.

The house that Aarav is living in is Ella's house. Meanwhile, Ella is engaged to another man. Of course Ella and her family won't be able to take Aarav back after the police come in front of the whole extended family.

"Think it over carefully, Aarav," Watson said gravely, "your father's death has something to do with the black organization I am also after.

While your mother doesn't get treatment costs because you meet your ex-wife's lifestyle standards. Are you going to let those parties live their lives well?"

Even though Aarav tried to restrain himself, he couldn't lie if what Watson said was true. Ever since he knew Juliana had connections with someone like Watson, her family must have kept a lot of secrets. Moreover, the alleged death of Gio, his father, is related to a large and powerful black organization.

Aarav cannot get rid of curiosity just like that. Also, the anger over Ella's actions that humiliated her in front of the entire extended family. Ella threw herself away and chose to get engaged to a much richer man.

"You have to return your restaurant, right? If you accept my money and offer, you can get your restaurant back. We will work together on a mission, Aarav."

"Besides, how are you going to get back the penalty fine when your restaurant business has been foreclosed on?" continued Watson, deliberately persuading Aarav.

Increasingly, Aarav's defense felt shaky. Aarav wants to see those who humiliated him suffer.
