Episode 10 : The invisible store

Under Rex's watchful gaze, Louie walks to a drawer beside the bed and pulled out a pillbox.

He held it out for Rex to see and he tosses it away. The pillbox opens and thousands of pills are scattered unto the floor.

" For twenty-one years I have lived like a madman just to stay alive and to keep my son safe.

" My brother had served me a kill pill all days just for me to stay insane forever.

" After your mother died from the accident, I have been emotionally helpless and the thought of you still alive tied my hands.

" You have to be kept alive. Your existence kept me unmoving "

Rex swallows hard. Here is the first son of Riley, the renowned Quadrillionaire.

He is claiming him as his son and nothing has ever been more confusing.

" How can you tell that I am your son? Because my name is Rex? "

" No " Louie replied. " I have always known you are my son. I took you up to the cobbler's home myself "

" Cobbler's home? " Rex repeated in confusion. " My father, Louie isn't a cobbler. He only knows how to go about boots and foot wears "

" Exactly what I wanted you to think " Louie replied softly. " He is my cobbler years ago when everything was still rosy for me "

Rex was stunned totally by what he is hearing. Goosebumps overwhelm him.

He watched as Louie brought out a little picture frame from his drawer and held it out for him who to see.

There he saw the image of his dead Father and the first son of Riley, Louie.

They were both smiling at the camera. Behind them are shoes. The picture was taken many years back in Louie's shop.

" This can't be " Rex mutters in shock. " What happened? "

For many minutes Louie only stared hard at his son. He feels elated.

For many years he had only watched him from afar but now that he is closer he feels weird.

" Follow me," Louie said as he took to a tiny path. Rex followed him cautiously but stop abruptly when he saw him staring at the wall.

A frown etch Rex's face when his father pushed open an invisible door that no one ever know existed.

The wall gives way and Louie steps in. Rex was stunned literally but he followed suit seconds later.

There his jaw dropped when he saw they are standing in a wide place that looks like a jewelry store.

The place is so lighted up with thousands of jewelry displayed.

" From childhood, I have had this dream to be a jeweler. To be the best in the world and to live up to my father's expectations "

Louie began and Rex listen attentively without interrupting.

" With your mother beside me even the sky isn't our limit. I made this watch you hold on to and the earrings in your earlobes Rex.

" All this jewelry you could see here is mine, only waiting for the right time before I announced my Brand. RLE. Rex Louie enterprise.

" But it turns out that my younger brother Karson had loathed me for nothing.

" His wife shares in his selfish heart as well, probably why she never lives long. When the date I am to announce my brand to the world drew nearer, I began to experience cold feet.

Rex couldn't speak for many minutes. His heart just keeps sinking in sorrow.

" His name is Louie. Don't ever try to tell false stories " He accused angrily but Louie only smile sadly.

" I am Louie. For my son to grow up with another man's name make me cringe. I made that happen too. You have to grow up as Rex Louie and not Rex Willis "

Emotions overwhelmed Rex so much and he quickly look away to calm down.

" He died days ago, of cancer. He needed just a few dollars but I couldn't raise it "

This time Louie let out a tired sigh. He walks towards Rex and stops just before him.

" I lost contact with the outside world after I return from Willis home twenty-one years ago Rex. Nothing could stop me from feeling guilty after seeing that wristwatch around your wrist. I know my good friend had left me "

" He was my father. He brought me up "

" Always " Louie agreed smoothly. " Willis will always be your father. Even though you have my name doesn't make me qualify to be your dad.

" You should go ahead now and never returns. The doom looms over me every second.

" For years before I regain my senses I was prescribed harmful pills that make the brain sleep.

" Your life won't be guaranteed if everyone knows you are my son. You are never mine. Go now Rex and never returns "

Louie is determined to make his only son live longer. He had managed to keep him alive by announcing his death Twenty years ago.

Slowly he turns towards the exit but Rex speaks out firmly.

" I won't go anywhere. You are my Dad too. I have left for twenty-one years but I'm back now "

" You are not listening. Karson will..."

" He stole your glory. Now Pa Riley treated you more like a bin than his first son "

" That was because I lost all value to be addressed as the first son Rex "

" How about you restore that? I hate the fact that your younger brother has taken your place. He has a brand, a jewelry store which he named after his son. KKE. Khalil Karson Enterprise "

" He stole my ideas and some of my jewelry, wealth. He forced me to write a will. It's with him, the files. If I could get hold of it I can regain my status "

Rex was surprised but at the same time feel hopeful at his father's words.

" We should get the files then, " He said but Louie still feel reluctant.

" I watch the TV today. It shows the sport of RCC. Finished the competition then we can talk more about acquiring more "

At last, Rex left Louie and emerges into the living where everyone was waiting for him.

" I wonder what took you so long Rex Louie," Pa Riley said gently and Rex shrugged his shoulder.

" Just another grieving man is he. Waste of time and wish "

Sheila walks Rex out to the night afterward. She offers to drive him back to college but he declined.

They said their goodbyes and Sheila left. Just when Rex was about to walk out of Riley's mansion, he collided with Karson, his father's Younger brother.

Karson has a frown on his face while Rex managed to wipe off his disdain. He forced himself to smile but it turns out that Karson wasn't buying it.
