Chapter 4

Loris quietly listened to the faint conversation at the long table between her father and the guests whose identities she did not know. Without knowing their identities, Loris relied on his keen eyesight.

He saw the insignia they wore and instantly recognized it from the first moment he noticed it.

"What do the representatives of Morne City College want from the Federico family?" thought Loris as he wrinkled his temples slightly.

With Loris's knowledge from reading many books, he knew the city of Morne was called the city of Gunslingers. While Morne City College was a very famous shooting college in Nimgefu.

Loris realized that this meeting might be crucial, considering they were not ordinary people, "It might be," Loris thought.

Loris began to frequently use eye contact to stare at the expressions of some of Morne's guests, including a familiar person in her sight. He could not guess the compelling reason why the people from Morne City's Gunners Academy came and held a meeting with his father and Federico's three elders.

Loris' slightly anxious expression could be read in Arturo's eyes. He began to lightly nudge the shoulder of Loris' hand under the table.

"Brother Loris, your fiancé is also in this meeting. Do you know that she is highly favored by the dean of Morne City College?" Arturo whispered very softly.

The woman made sure no one heard him but the two of them. Besides, the one seat next to Arturo was also empty.

But not Leon, sitting across the table opposite the two men. The young man gave Loris a sardonic look, then glanced at Arturo and looked away immediately before being noticed by the other meeting members.

Loris, who heard that, turned his head slowly to Arturo. "What?" he whispered back.

Arturo immediately signaled Loris not to look at him by lightly nudging Loris' arm. "It has been confirmed that the dean will appoint Remuel as the next replacement for his position," Arturo explained again.

Loris frowned when he heard it, "Is that true? But how do you know, Artur?"

Arturo blushed slightly when his name was called by Loris, it was because of the great feeling that was being bottled up in his chest.

"I follow the news updates about Morne College City because I'm one of the system's fans. I hope you don't ask further why I'm following the news of Remuel's appointment," Arturo replied flatly to continue to contain the mixed feelings in his heart.

Loris, who heard Arturo's last sentence, remained silent. He understood Arturo's first reason. But chose not to ask about the second one.

"After all, who doesn't know that big academy," thought Loris, who believed that Arturo's reasoning only made sense if the woman was ambitious towards Morne College City.

Behind that, Loris did not know that the Rodel family made her marriage contract with Remuel, who formally wanted to repay the Federico family for a debt that the Rodels had once owed them.

And of all that, Rodel's primary goal is for the two of their companies to stay in touch without any obstacles, more precisely so that Federico is still willing to support Rodel's company, which is not healthy.

Beside Loris, Arturo unconsciously opened his voice, "I think I'm beginning to believe that your fiancé came to cancel your wedding," Arturo whispered while frowning.

The woman had been trying to overhear the conversation between the academy representative and Loris' father. Although faint, she connected what she heard with the news she knew.

"Huh?" Loris made a slightly jerky sound. He squeezed his own hand with a burning feeling. Even the man's gaze became listless and blank on the table.

When Arturo heard Loris' voice, she realized she had made a mistake. She could have made things worse in the meeting by provoking Loris' emotions.

Arturo didn't know that Loris was holding back his anger. Loris himself was angry, not because Remuel wanted to cancel their wedding. He was angry because this situation would make his father even more depressed.

Without asking Arturo twice, Loris turned sharply to his father. He noticed that his father's expression began looking unpleasant over time.

"What kind of situation is this?" Loris' thoughts were mixed.

He was angry, confused, yet helpless. There was nothing she could do, but it was certain that her father's career would suffer.

Most likely, after the annulment of the marriage that was publicized in all of Federico's family, it would make everyone look at him even more disparagingly. But Loris didn't care about that; he was more concerned about the election of the next patriarch, which affected hix father's reputation as well.

"Brother Loris ... brother Loris," Arturo called in a half-whisper while nudging the tip of his shoulder against Loris' shoulder.

Arturo half panicked when she saw Loris' expression change in such a way. She also felt the situation in the meeting room becoming increasingly tense, plus the three Federico elders who were at a distance from the two of them were just silent and nodded while letting Loris' father talk endlessly.

Loris ignored Arturo's call; his gaze immediately lowered, and he realized that his deformed hand was shaking in such a way.

"Stop!" said Loris in a whisper and a suppressed voice. He gripped his trembling hand with all his might in his other hand.

Loris felt an aching pain at her inability to stop this unpleasant situation.

He saw his father begin to frown as he spoke to the visitor. He didn't know what it was. Loris realized her father looked cornered in the conversation.

Across the table, Loris was distraught with himself for letting his father, who had been trying to protect him all by himself, and now he just had to wait for his father to endure all the ridicule of the people of Famu.

Arturo saw Loris' gesture of compassion; he was about to touch Loris' hand but held back his hand and chose to calm Loris with a sentence that he strung together soulfully.

"Brother Loris, calm down. I'm sure everything will be fine." Arturo said in a very soft whisper.

"I'm sure..." Arturo added but paused, "...you can avenge Remuel's deeds. Hang in there to make him regret it in the future." Arturo added again.

He said it with a hint of jealousy. But Loris chose not to respond to Arturo's words because that was not what he was thinking about.

It was not revenge or satisfaction for him to see Remuel regret. But Loris was thinking hard about how to make his father's reputation not affected by the problem of the failed marriage between him and a genius from Morne College City.

The long-awaited second finally arrived, and the increasingly tense atmosphere began to spread. Loris immediately raised his head when he heard the creak of a chair being pushed.

"No. Don't," Loris said in her head angrily.

The guest, a teacher from Monroe City's Gunners academy, stood up; Loris, who saw that, paled, and his eyes bulged.

Not only him but also across the table, Loris saw his father showing a red face and an unstoppably angry expression.
