Chapter 6

At the moment when things were tense, Master showed his palm in front of Loris' father.

"Please, Mr. Federic, the weapon was a gift from my student Remuel. The Dean hopes that this compensation is sufficient for any losses due to his sudden decision," explained Master Gunners with a friendly smile in front of all the Federico family in the hall.

Hearing that, the silence of Loris' father was finally tempted by the uniquely patterned box with wood that was rare to even see in their city.

He opened the box and found a rare metal single-shot percussion pistol. Inside was a class E magic firearm.

"This..." Loris' father made a small murmur that only he could hear.

His eyes fell on a metal object lying in a carved box. His hand unconsciously moved to touch the object's surface, which was unique, with curves carved along with the direction of the bullet design.

As if fascinated, Loris' father touched it and could feel the power in the design of the magic firearm.

"This thing will raise my son's shooting level, right?" Federic thought, trying to be calm.

All of them, with enough knowledge, knew very well that the object Remuel was carrying was a magic firearm useful for increasing shooting power.

It could even make ordinary bullets take effect and have almost the same power as magic bullets.

"Look, it looks like Federic looks happy. Now he'll feel a bit of pride towards Loris, who only has level F," chirped quietly, one of the elders with the longest beard.

"That brat will probably feel Level E eventually," he added mockingly.

He gave a slight grin and then glanced at Loris, who just kept his head down. The few people who heard that were very surprised by the actions of the youngest elder, but none of them dared to reprimand.

Loris' father, still in awe, didn't even pay attention to the milling words. Although he felt a little disappointed, he would gladly accept the compensation.

"How is Mr. Federic?" asked the teacher, still in a friendly tone.

He was still widening the smile on his lips. It was then that he proudly pointed at the object and started babbling, explaining the origin of the magic object that was now the centre of attention of everyone in the hall.

"Despite having an E level, this magic weapon is made of an extremely rare metal. A professional blacksmith and firearmsmith who is hard to find in the city of Morne has taken the time to carve this weapon." the teacher explained carefully in front of everyone.

Those in the hall believed that the city of Morne had a blacksmith profession that was rare in the entire world. And Morne City may have some blacksmiths trusted enough by other shooters, even for S-class shooters.

"Our dean directly proposed who the blacksmith with extraordinary magic control should be, so he carved a magic weapon that can be stable in the hands of even F-class shooters." The teacher added those words in a flat tone.

But it all sounded so insulting to Loris' ears. The cold sweat pouring down his forehead still hadn't stopped.

The usual explanation from teacher Morne and accepted by everyone was like a sharp and hot arrow in his solar plexus. It was very painful. But Loris, who was trying to digest everything, was still silent.

"You can see, the blacksmith is very meticulous. Even the basic materials are not spared from materials inherently possessing magic power."

The teacher's last explanation left everyone in the hall in awe. Everyone began to frown at Father Loris, who was still transfixed in front of the magic weapon.

"Hah!" the youngest elder reacted like the hall member there. They began to show jealousy towards Loris.

"That boy is lucky too. He failed at his wedding but got such a great firearm. But is his deformed hand capable of touching that thing?" said the youngest elder with the longest beard.

Loris's father, who heard it this time, immediately glared at the man who was 10 years older than him. He initially respected the man for being able to become an elder at a younger age than the other elders.

But Loris' father didn't accept it. He stomped a little on the table, "What do you mean by that?" he asked sarcastically.

The man just stroked his beard and shrugged his shoulders slightly. He looked away, pretending he hadn't heard Loris' father's threat.

The other elders began to calm Loris' father down. But on the other hand, they were all shocked and wanted the opportunity Loris had gotten.

Even Leon, who had been smiling and then frowning and smiling again as Loris continued to be insulted, was now frowning again. "Damn it," Leon grumbled to himself.

His hands clenched into fists and heated up. His chest began to feel tight from seeing Loris's many advantages today.

The teacher also calmed Loris' father down, "Mr. Federic, let me add a little more. A blacksmith trusted by the Dean of the Morne City Gunslinger Academy is Nimgofu. We all know his reputation, don't we?" the Academy teacher asked the elder and Loris' father.

The elders who heard that were a little surprised by the looks on their faces. Nimgofu was a very mysterious blacksmith. He was famous for never accepting firearms manufacturing requests except from the Nimgefu kingdom and the director of the Morne City Gunslinger Academy.

"What about Mr. Federic? Are you going to agree to this?" asked the Morne Academy teacher kindly.

Then, they started nodding as if they were giving a welcoming impression to the teacher's request.

"If it were me, of course, I would agree to it. When else would I get a magic weapon from Nimgefu?" said the elder, who had been very annoying in Loris' eyes.

But Federic did not have time to answer. Loris, who could not stand in his chair, began to feel his throat drying up just by breathing.

His legs moved quickly, and he pushed the chair he was sitting on. "I reject it," Loris said loudly but tremblingly.

Everyone in the hall made a startled sound and immediately stared at Loris with deflected eyes. Even the elders frowned as they felt angered by Loris' sudden disrespectful attitude.

"Loris!" said one of the elders, silently reprimanding the young man. "Mind your manners and return to your seat. Are the teachings of manners in the Federico family not flowing through your veins?!" the elder snarled sarcastically.

He had been the most silent since earlier but did not like Loris' gestures, which were lacking in his eyes.

"Isn't this meeting because of my marriage annulment? So I have the right to take part in the decision." Loris added confidently.

The nervousness that had been flowing in Loris was getting used to. He could overcome it after Arturo's warm hand had helped calm him down.

Loris loudly argued. "I refuse the compensation. No magic weapon can pay for a man's pride," Loris added.

Hearing that, the elder who hated Loris the most chuckled. "What nonsense is that?" he chided.

Leon, who was in his place, even began to grin as he saw things getting out of hand. "Hm, that loser's starting to act up," he chided loudly.

Some people in the hall heard and began to agree with Leon's harsh words. But not Arturo. The woman gave Leon a sharp look and began to support Loris with a gentle touch on the back of the man's hand.

Remuel, who heard Loris' words, instantly frowned. She felt depressed. The woman began to fold her arms across her chest, "Greedy bastard!" she muttered. "He is selfish and insists on marrying the genius for the sake of his reputation," Remuel grumbled inwardly. She did not care how Loris was doing.

Remuel did not want to make things worse. She smiled and began to put her hands on her chin. "You're saying any weapon can't pay for a man's pride? Will your pride be even higher when you marry me later?" Remuel asked in a flat but very piercing tone.

Loris, who heard that, was even more furious. Remuel was putting himself down, and he hated that this was affecting his father's difficult position.

But seeing Remuel's situation, Loris did not want to lose this mental battle. He then sat back down. He began to sit in an upright and calm manner and began to look at Remuel intently.

"Miss Remuel, have you discussed this marriage annulment with the elders in your family?"

Hearing Loris' question, Remuel frowned. She turned her head slightly to the teacher's gaze. Then she looked at Loris, "This is my own decision, and the dean approves of it." She replied calmly.

Loris, who heard Remuel's answer, immediately smiled. "So right, this is all just a unilateral decision that hasn't been legalized yet." Muttered Loris, who began to look down.

He then looked up and gave Remuel a sharp look, "Have you ignored your parents' teachings since you got a teacher?" For the last time, Loris asked a question in a flat tone.

Although it initially sounded like a light question, it pierced Remuel's ego deeply. She felt captured and immobilized.

The question left her speechless until her hand casually supporting her chin began to lower and clench into a fist.

Remuel felt furious and started stomping on her desk. The genius young lady was finally provoked.

"Cut the crap if you think that magic firearm is not enough to feed your ego. Then I will gladly take it back."

Remuel spoke loudly while pointing at Loris, who was staring at her calmly. "I, as the next dean, challenge you to enter the Morne City Gunners Academy!" Remuel called out the sentence loudly.

"Let's see how you maintain your high self-esteem at the best Gunners academy in Morne." Added Remuel, who was still excited.

Everyone in the hall began to be shocked. Even the elder Federico began to gape at them while looking at Loris worriedly.

Loris himself could not even move in place. Even though his face showed a calm expression, he still did not expect to get the opportunity to enter the academy by invitation.

"...And I think allowing you to enter the best academy in Morne is the best compensation ever. It's an opportunity that not everyone can get."

No one dared to interrupt Remuel as the woman gave her a furious look. Even now, the three elders began to stare at Loris and waited for the young man's disruptive reply.
