Chapter 3 - Sacrifice

Suddenly a hand breaks through the door grabbing Sean by the throat as its arm reaches for his neck. Sean begins struggling to free himself from his grip. He tries to push the person away from him with strength as hard as he can but the guy is way too strong.

In the middle of the struggle, he got hold of a lamp close by. He grabs the lamp and throws it at the man who releases him from his grip.

The lamp hits his forehead with a loud thud, dropping him to the floor. Sean falls to his knees breathing heavily as the adrenaline rushes away from his body. When he recovers from his attack he looks at the unconscious man. The lamp shattered in pieces when it hit the man's head.

“Shit" he mutters quietly as he kneels in front of the man.

He was able to get a better view of his attacker, he was shocked to see a man with half rotten face with locusts feeding on his flesh inside the eyes socket. Blood was oozing out of the wounds and blood ran freely down his cheek and mouth. The man's clothes were ripped into shreds due to the attack. Sean can feel himself becoming weak and faint. Just when he was about to pass out, the man opens his bloody mouth as a piercing scream comes out of his mouth.

Grabbing him by the neck, he sighted ST.HALL is written boldly on the shredded cloth before he starts to be dizzy, the last thing he sees was a young boy staring at him with his black eyes standing outside of the room he was choking.

It was the same boy that appears to him often in his dreams. This time, however, the little boy didn't smile at him, instead, he stared at Sean with his dark blue eyes. And the last thing Sean saw is a white light shining behind the kid.

Sean wakes up hurriedly from the dream to see himself in a room that looked old and disorganized.

He feels cold and wet. His shirt is soaked and covered in sweat. Looking down at his chest he realizes he is trembling uncontrollably.

“Where am I” he questions himself.

“You’re awake!" someone shouts from the opposite side of the room

“Who said that?" he looks backward to see Goldberg boiling water by using firewood.

“I did” Goldberg replied without turning around. “It’s me Goldberg!” he exclaims happily as he continues pouring the steaming hot water over his hands.

"How did I get here?” he asked

“I found you unconscious on the road"

Goldberg explains as he turns around. “Then you passed out, your pulse dropped drastically so I brought you back here. How are you feeling?" he asked worriedly.?

“Better than ever!" Sean says as he stood up on his feet

“Good to know you’re finally alive!" Goldberg says while offering him a bottle of small whiskey.

Sean accepts the small bottle and drinks it in one sip.

“So, What was that I saw last night?”

“You don't know, about the curse that is upon the town," he says

“Well, no not exactly. But, how come the town is haunted?" Sean replies while taking another swig of whiskey.

“You probably wouldn't believe me,” he says slowly as he rubs his chin. “But, once upon a time, the town used to be a happy place, filled with laughter and happiness...until the darkness started to spread. Everyone was afraid of shadows; afraid of the things that might crawl out of them at night, scared of the unknown creatures lurking within their houses....and so it continued throughout the days, to months to years and it will continue forever” he pauses for a few seconds before continuing.

“Until we all accept the truth about our actions"

“What actions?” Sean asked confused.

Goldberg sighs, “The people's actions, we are all afraid, lack the courage to speak the truth. We chose this curse, this darkness by ourselves by refusing to speak the truth.”

“What do you mean?” Sean asked once more puzzled.

“They just say ‘My lips are sealed’ fuck those lips!” Goldberg started to whisper to himself with annoyance. “There is nothing more horrible than to watch the sunrise each day. Watching everything around us fade from existence, to become nothing more than dust that flies around every corner and never stops moving. We pretend we don't see that, we act as if we don't feel the pain...but we do. we speak of being busy, we act like we don't care we got our lives to take care of. So, we turn a blind eye, we ignore reality, we try to forget, we bury our memories deep beneath our skins until they fade away."

Goldberg paused again before he looked over at Sean “Ignorance is the key to allowing evil in, to protect ourselves, to deny our feelings. We have been doing this for centuries, but now all that will stop because they are here for all of us”

Sean fully understands Goldberg's pain. He lost his Fiance, he lost his life as a human and he still hasn't gotten over it. Yet he continues to live, continues to keep pretending everything is fine, that he isn't dying every day by the minute.

“I need to leave” Sean finally decides to leave his thoughts aside and say something.

“Huh...?” Goldberg exclaimed confused

“I need to go...”

“Where?”

“I need to get away from here!”

“You think you can leave, once inside SCARVILLE? You are trapped between your nightmares” Goldberg said. “You have nowhere to go, nowhere to hide”

“Yeah well I can at least try, can't I” Sean replied

“They won't allow you to leave unless you fulfill their purpose,” Goldberg says looking at Sean intently.

“And what is my purpose then?” Sean asked frowning

“To release the Evil that will consume every one of them,” Goldberg says.

“Including me.”

“You are crazy,” Sean says while opening the door. “I'm out of here” he states as he leaves and closes the door behind him.

The sun had already set, leaving behind the dark and gloomy sky. It made the surroundings look even darker than it was. Sean walked along the path, avoiding the large puddles of rainwater.

The sun had already set, leaving behind the dark and gloomy sky. It made the surroundings look even darker than it was.

Sean walked along the path, avoiding the large puddles of rainwater.

“What is happening?” he says to himself while heading back to the hotel. “I need to leave”

After entering the hotel, he goes straight to his room to pack his clothes and prepare to leave the town. After he finishes packing, he walks to the desk and checks out. He exists the hotel while he starts to walk towards the entrance of the town with his bags, he noticed a little crowd of people all busy and involved in various activities. Amidst the crowd, he sighted a woman staring deeply at him while he walks out of town with her husband. He could swear he saw her staring at him the entire time.

When he arrived near the gates, he saw sighs thinking all about Goldberg's words. After pondering for quite some minutes, he finalizes to leave the town. After passing the Exit gate he starts to walk down the lonely road away from scarville. He kept walking through the empty street, with nothing ahead of him. He doesn't know where he is going anymore.

He kept on walking until he meets himself back at Scarville's entrance. He takes a deep breath and stands at the entrance staring at the gate. “Impossible, I'm back here,” he says to himself “The curse keeps bringing me back to the town" he turns to look at the sky, before yelling at the top of his voice. “You think keeping me here is great, huh? how about you give me your best...”

After waiting for a while longer, Sean starts to notice that it’s getting very late, the dark clouds overhead are making the sky look even darker. The wind blows strongly at the top and he can only feel the coldness of the breeze against his skin.

Suddenly he sighted birds all rushing to safety, with the sky all turning dark in an instant.

“What the hell?” he thinks before hearing a faint laugh coming from behind him.

Then the Town alarm starts to sound as all the townsmen start running to p

.

A thunder resounds through the air and he watches as the sky suddenly turns dark and the lightning strikes down, lighting everything around the town.

“Oh, no,” Sean thought horrified as he watches everyone run after he sighted mist covering up the entire town They were all running toward their homes.

He looks around searching desperately for anything familiar. As he passes through the town, the lights are turned off, and then there’s complete darkness. A loud noise resonates through the night and as Sean opens his eyes, he notices that the buildings around him are starting to fall apart.

The sound of Buzzing filled the air, then sean manages to sight a swamp of Locust eating up everything they came across with. The insects were buzzing rapidly and eating up everything they came across with. It would have frightened him but he has seen far worse than these bugs. Sean then realizes that all these bugs are following him in his direction.

He turns backward while he starts to run to safety, not caring about the fact that all the other townspeople were also running to escape whatever was causing them such destruction.

Sean ran to a parked car. He unlocked the doors and threw his bags into the passenger seat before diving inside and locking the door behind him.

Sean sat there shaking violently. His heartbeat became faster as the bugs flew towards the car, crawling up onto the windowsills of the car and flying onto the floorboard of the car.

Sean sighted some openings in the body of the car, he noticed the locust started eating up the body parts of the car.

Meanwhile, on the road, the Driver kept on driving hurriedly through the night while they were being chased by something, which could be known by the growl. They drove into Scarville town while colliding with a bar or an intersection between the two cities.

At first, they thought it was the driver who was driving them, but upon closer inspection, they found it was the driver's corpse covered in blood.

“Common everyone gets to safety!” Rexxy says while directing the passengers out of the bus.

One by one, everyone exited the bus and headed toward the closest building Suddenly Jennifer sighted the flying locust trying to feed on a car, but they stopped while they focused on them. She knew what would happen next, she knows they would soon begin to feed. She quickly ran out of the bus ignoring the warning of Rexy. “Jennifer wait...”

Rexy tried to warn her when he sighted an axe heading towards her direction. The moment he saw the axe falling toward her, Rexxy yelled “No!!!!”

Just before the blade could hit Jennifer, she felt a strong gust of wind hitting her face. She turned to see the Axe directly On Rexxy's face .

Rexxy screamed in agony while blood splattered through the air, staining Jennifer's shirt. Rexxy fell off to the ground, rolling over the ground while his half of his face fall to a different part of the ground.

“Rexxy!!!” Jennifer screamed while running towards him.

She kneeled beside him and held his hand tightly. “Are you okay?” she asks worriedly.

Rexxy was already dead, but Jennifer ignored the swamp of Locust still rushing towards her.

Sean opens the car door after seeing the locust were gone, he quickly climbs outside and slams the door shut.

He stands outside the car to see the locust heading toward Jennifer as he tried to look for a way to attract the insects.
