AN ACCOMPLICE?

“This riffraff came to apply for the janitor position here but he stole my friend’s clothes and insulted us, so I wanted to teach him a lesson but he ended up slashing water all…”

“Really?” Byron cut him short with a questioning brow before making a face at Carol who got his message.

“Shut up or I might just slap you real good this time!” Leo hushed Byron instantly.

“You tried to slap him?! Do you even know who…” Carol had to pause herself, remembering that Byron did not want his identity revealed.

“Guards!” She yelled, her face turning red with anger.

Six giant men immediately appeared before her, all going down on one knee and bowing to her.

“What hand did you try to slap him with?”

“Huh?” Leo asked in confusion. Was his boss mad that he slapped a common man like Byron, an ordinary live-in son-in-law, to his friend’s family?

SMACK! SMACK!

Leo received two simultaneous slaps from Carol as her expression hardened even further. Her eyes narrowed at him and her nose flared.

Ah! He realized Byron must be someone important to his boss for her to be angry like this. He knew what that meant. Everyone knew the fear of Carol’s anger was the beginning of longevity in Mega Corp.

“I’m sorry sir, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you knew my boss. Please help me beg her. I’m really sorry for hitting you. Please have mercy on me,” Leo cried as he went on his knees and clutched Byron’s shoes but Byron simply moved away, looking at him indifferently.

“Since he won’t say which hand he slapped him with. Take him away and break all ten of his fingers and I don't need to tell you that I don't want to see his shadow in this premises,” Carol ordered coldly.

“Yes ma’am,” The six hefty men chorused in unison as they bundled Leo away.

“Please….Please….I am sorry…..I hate you, Liam. I hate you….this is all your fault,” Leo cried and whined in regret as they dragged him away.

Then Carol turned her deadly gaze to Liam.

“And who are you?”

A heavy lump struggled to find its way down Liam’s throat in fear as he looked down, unable to look Carol in the eyes. What he just saw baffled him. If she could treat a man like Leo that way, what was going to be his fate and how did Byron even come to know such a powerful woman?

“The one who spilled water all over…that man's accomplice,”

Byron answered in place of Liam with a smug smirk on his face.

What?! How can her boss just allow people to humiliate someone as powerful as him?

At that moment, Carol thought Byron was a very humble man who didn’t like to show off his power and she respected him even more, and with that respect came the intense urge to humiliate those who tried to humiliate him.

She took a scornful glance at Liam who just stood there perplexed like a wet puppy with its tails between its legs, awaiting his judgment. She saw the portfolio he was holding and instantly realized that he was there to submit a bid proposal.

“I see you’re here for the bid but you have clearly lost your priorities. If you want us to even remotely look at that thing you’re holding, you’d go on your knees right now and clean this mess you made… But with your tongue,” Carol said spitefully.

Liam’s head shot up in shock but he quickly dropped it when he met Carol’s scornful gaze.

Licking water off the floor with his tongue? That was beyond dehumanizing!

But If he returned to Grandma empty-handed, he would lose his place in the family.

So, he knelt down, glancing at Bryon who had his arms crossed on his chest with a clearly amused look on his face. He dropped his head, drying the wet floor with his tongue.

Byron in particular was enjoying the show. He couldn’t help himself. He thought Carol was a competent assistant. She wasn’t just good at dealing with business, she was equally good at dealing with people. He even thought of giving her a raise for this.

Byron chuckled, stepping forward and putting his shoes on a small puddle of water in front of Liam.

“There’s some more over here,” He pointed to his feet.

Liam seethed with anger and wanted nothing more than to rush at Byron and attack him but the fear of Carol and being disowned outweighed his anger.

He shamefully crawled to Byron’s feet and lapped up the water that Byron's shoes had tainted with his tongue.

Byron crouched in front of him and patted his head. “You’re such a good boy. You should be like this more often. Hehe.”

Hahaha!

Liam's heart ached bitterly as soon as he heard people in the lobby laughing at him but he didn’t say a word. He couldn’t, he knew Carol was right behind him and one wrong move could cost him everything but he was so wrong.

Byron stood back up and grabbed the portfolio Liam had come with. He handed it to Carol and said. “Put this in the trash and when he’s done cleaning, ban him from ever having access to Mega Corporation.”
