MY DAUGHTER

Byron's heart sank even further, he felt his heart imploding. He had longed to see and be with this woman throughout his stay in prison. Why was she doing this?

“I thought… We were in love. I thought you loved me?”

“Well wake up to reality! She never did! She's tired of inhaling that stench called poverty from you! Read the room bro! Sign the damn papers and get lost!” Liam barked, throwing a pen at Byron's chest.

Byron smiled bitterly as he glanced at the divorce papers in his hands.

Then he raised his head at them, “I will sign this but I want custody of Ava.” Ava is his life. He loved her way too much to leave her in the hands of these people.

The room fell silent.

“Let me rephrase that. You mean, my daughter?” Liam scoffed.

What?

Byron's head buzzed. Is this some kind of a sick joke?

Maggi tilted her head as if prepared for his reaction. She didn't waste time in showing him the DNA test that proved what Liam just said.

Byron's face turned pale. He clenched his fist hard like he was going to lose it.

The little girl he called daughter wasn't his?

He felt his world crumbling.

He stared at the DNA results until he couldn't anymore. His eyes were red with pain and bitterness.

His whole life for four good years had been a lie!

Heartbroken, he signed the divorce papers and stormed out, vowing to make the Armstrongs pay.

At the Mega corporations, Byron was welcomed warmly into the CEO’s office, his office.

Carol, his assistant, did all the necessary things as Byron instructed her since he was still quite new to running a big company like this but he had good business acumen and some experience.

Going through some of the Corporation's properties, Byron realized his company had a huge undeveloped mass of land that was ripe for commercial development.

He immediately drafted plans to kickstart his first project as the CEO and he instructed his assistant to put out word for construction companies to start bidding for the project.

The Armstrong family's authority rested in the hands of the grandmother, Jane and everyone knew who she loved the most.

“Alright, take your seats.” Lady Jane said as she walked onto the stage and gently sat on her chair. “According to a reliable source, Mega Corporation Just welcomed a new president.”

Woah!

The entire family turned to each other with a surprised look. Granny's announcement sparked a huge discussion among the people.

Mega Corporation wasn't an easy one. They had tried being partners with them even last month but they turned them down.

Since they now had a new president, working with a company that's as big as Mega corporations, Lady Jane knew they stood to make steady profits even more than their current deals.

Lady Jane looked around the hall, glaring at their faces, “Who’s willing to give it a shot?” She asked. “Anyone willing to go negotiate the partnership with Mega Corporations and can successfully seal the deal, will be getting a 15% of the company's share.”

15% is a lot!

“Let me go, Granny.”

“I'm willing to give it a shot!”

“I can do it, Grandma!”

Samantha and Maggi just kept mute and watched while Liam avoided eye contact with Grandma Jane.

He knew how many times they had tried Mega Corporation in the past. It's better she chooses…

“Liam! The task is in your hands. Go there tomorrow, and give it your best shot.” Grandma Jane said curtly.

“B-But we have others volunteering. Why me, Grandma?” Liam protested. He was never fit for business, any time he had sealed a big deal was due to luck or huge bribes to someone inside the organization but none of those tricks could work on Mega Corporations.

“Don’t be a fool. You’re supposed to be the leader of this family, because of you, our company almost went bankrupt. If you do not do this, you will cease to be an Armstrong!” Grandma Jane yelled out her order, slamming her fists on the table.

Liam gulped as all eyes turned to him. He had no choice, his future as an Armstrong rested on getting his family this contract.
