Chapter 2
Byron wasted no time in going home to his wife and daughter. He was given a card by his father to call if he needed anything and the men offered to accompany him, calling him young master but he refused. He had missed Maggi so much.He was tempted to call and tell her about his family and the wealth he had acquired even though he didn’t fully understand it yet. But then, he shook his head.No one knew he was coming back, and thinking of it, he thought it was best to leave it that way.How about a little surprise? He wore a casual bargained shirt and worn-out pants as he got into a cab and instructed his bodyguards not to follow him.Byron was the missing heir of the trillion-dollar conglomerate chairman, Mr. Don Smith. But he went missing after an attack that claimed his mother's life. Then he met Lucas Armstrong who saved and took him in. Byron made some money, he decided to compensate the late Lucas by giving him some money which he used to start one of the biggest companies in Emerald Hill.Byron had tried looking for his family all to no avail in the new city he was taken to. He didn’t even know who he was. The only lead he had was his first name, Smith but then, he knew so many Smiths that he just gave up finding his real family. He had forgotten about them and had no idea he would reunite with them again.“We are here sir.” The driver snapped Byron out of his thoughts. He looked around with puzzlement, “Are you sure we are in the right place?” He asked as he paid the man who nodded in response. It was after his release that he learned that the Armstrongs had a new residence but he wasn’t expecting the marvelous sight before him. He wondered how rich his wife must have gotten after all these years. The area and building were screaming luxury! He got down and walked up to the gate. He smiled brightly as he saw Andrew, one of Armstrong's old security guards who he was fond of back at the other mansion.Andrew hugged and welcomed him inside but the rest just hissed. The old man was pleased to see him but swallowed his words and told Byron that Maggi and two others were the only ones at home. Old lady Jane and Samantha had gone out.Byron nodded and walked into the mansion with excitement. As long as Maggi was at home, he was happy. He asked the maids and they pointed, saying Maggi's room was the first room upstairs.Ava saw Byron and ran into his arms with tears in her eyes.He didn't notice the tears in her eyes as she jumped into his hands. She was all grown. But then, he frowned. He hates it when his little princess cries. He carried her up and wiped her tears. Why was his daughter crying? He asked her as he took the stairs up to Maggi's room.“Daddy, help mummy, she's crying again. She has been crying since.” Ava cried and her cheeks became red.Help mummy? Why would Maggi be crying?“Shhh… it's okay baby… why would mummy be crying?” He comforted her as he approached Maggi's door.“Daddy, Uncle Liam is bad,” She raised her head at him as tears flowed freely down her cheeks. “Whenever he goes into mommy's room, I hear her crying.”She continued, “Mummy cries and begs him never to stop.”Byron tilted his head, trying to understand what she was trying to say as he got to the door. Then and there, he heard what Ava was saying. His body shivered but he tried to remain composed. He gently dropped her and said, “Go to your room, princess. Daddy bought so much, I'd be bring them there when I'm done, okay?”She wiped her tears, nodded and left him standing at the door with a heavy heart. He took a deep breath, hoping his hunch was wrong and that he must be hearing things. He gently opened the door and was frozen to the spot. His breath stopped as he saw Maggi arching her ass and Liam's rod going in and out of her with pleasure.“Fuck! Liam, Mmmm… Oh yes! Like that, DON'T STOP…” Maggi clutched her hands to the sheets as she moaned softly. His brain buzzed and his throat suddenly went dry. He felt like a carpet was pulled out from beneath his feet as he reached for something to hold unto before he collapse from what he was seeing. He felt his whole world stopped!Don't stop? That was the word Ava was saying. How dare they! What the fuck! He never thought his wife would cheat, especially with her own brother, the reason he went to jail for three years!“I’m gonna pop!” Liam screamed in ecstasy. They were so engrossed in their dirty act that they didn't even notice his presence.Their moans almost killed him. He felt so betrayed and bitter. He lunged at Liam as he came undone inside Maggi, throwing him a heavy punch that sent Liam to the floor.~In the living room of the Armstrong family, Grandma Jane, Samantha, Maggi, and the rest were all seated as Liam kept berating Byron for storming into the room while he was having his fun.“You worthless piece of trash! I see prison life has messed with your brain! What makes you think Maggi was ever yours?!” Liam said vehemently.Byron clenched his fist bitterly, “I’m her husband.”Hearing those words, Maggi stood and threw her saliva on Byron's face. “It’s obvious poverty still hasn't let you be. Stop acting like a fool! I'm no wife to an Ex-convict!”Ex-convict?Byron chuckled wryly as he wiped her saliva off his face. He just caught her in the act and she wasn't even trying to apologize.“Ex-convict? Is this some kind of a welcome-back joke?” Byron smiled bitterly. “An Ex-convict? Is that what I am to you?”“Of course! Is that not what you are? Don't tell me you escaped prison! For all we know, it's not 4 years yet!” Samantha retorted harshly. They all took turns insulting him while the rest of the family watched, laughed, and murmured among themselves.“Mother, does it mean you see nothing wrong with two siblings having an affair with each other?” Byron's voice came out hoarse, his tone a mix of pain, bitterness, and disbelief. How come no one is shocked about this?Grandma Jane was about to talk when Samantha stood from her seat. “Will you shut the fuck up! How many times have I warned you never to call me your mother? The fact that you were fortunate to get married to my daughter doesn't mean I gave birth to a fool like you!” She roared. "And who said Liam and Maggi were related? Foolish man!” Samantha's voice came as cold as ice.Say that again? Byron's mouth fell wide open. They aren't related? He went to jail for someone who isn't even related to his wife?!How come no one ever said anything to him?“Enough alright!” Grandma said and the room immediately fell silent. Then she turned to Byron who looked like he was going to pass out soon, “Poverty has really turned you inside out. It seems you're the only one who doesn't know my granddaughter is an Armstrong by adoption not birth, don't make a big deal out of what you saw. That being said–” She continued, turning to Maggi.“–I don't want this to hinder your marriage with the son of Global Oak group. Remember we need that contract.”Maggi nodded after looking at Byron from head to toe.Byron chuckled wryly. Is Grandma Jane joking?Does it mean that she saw nothing wrong in Maggi having an affair with Liam even if they weren't related, as long as she gets married to another man to secure a contract?‘This is ridiculous!’ Byron thought. Did they have to be so loud in their dirty act that his little daughter thought her mother was crying when in reality she was busy moaning shamelessly?Just as he turned to Maggi, she threw a few papers at his face, almost blinding him with it.“It's about time! I have been dying to do that for years. There. my signature is already there.” She said as Byron bent over to pick up the papers. “All that's remaining is yours. Sign it and we can call it a day or should I say, MARRIAGE!”Byron's heart sank even further, he felt his heart imploding. He had longed to see and be with this woman throughout his stay in prison. Why was she doing this? “I thought… We were in love. I thought you loved me?” “Well wake up to reality! She never did! She's tired of inhaling that stench called poverty from you! Read the room bro! Sign the damn papers and get lost!” Liam barked, throwing a pen at Byron's chest. Byron smiled bitterly as he glanced at the divorce papers in his hands. Then he raised his head at them, “I will sign this but I want custody of Ava.” Ava is his life. He loved her way too much to leave her in the hands of these people. The room fell silent. “Let me rephrase that. You mean, my daughter?” Liam scoffed. What? Byron's head buzzed. Is this some kind of a sick joke? Maggi tilted her head as if prepared for his reaction. She didn't waste time in showing him the DNA test that proved what Liam just said. Byron's face turned pale. He clenched his fist
At the entrance of the Mega Corporation, a row of luxurious cars were parked and quite a number of them belonged to either the owner or members of the firm. Judging from how expensive this car looked, Liam was sure the president of Mega Corporation was no ordinary man. Countless companies were seeking partnerships with them but most of them were rejected… given that the new president is odd. Liam heard the news, so before coming he had called one of his friends, Leo, who happens to be the company’s PRO and he was reassured that everything will fall in place. The shares Granny had promised kept ringing in his head as he approached the receptionist. He told the receptionist where he was headed then she asked if he had an appointment with the president.Liam shook his head and told her he was here for the bid.She gave him a quick once-over saying, “I'm sorry sir, but you have to book an appointment first before seeing the president.”He let out a deep sigh and was about to say some
“This riffraff came to apply for the janitor position here but he stole my friend’s clothes and insulted us, so I wanted to teach him a lesson but he ended up slashing water all…”“Really?” Byron cut him short with a questioning brow before making a face at Carol who got his message.“Shut up or I might just slap you real good this time!” Leo hushed Byron instantly.“You tried to slap him?! Do you even know who…” Carol had to pause herself, remembering that Byron did not want his identity revealed.“Guards!” She yelled, her face turning red with anger.Six giant men immediately appeared before her, all going down on one knee and bowing to her.“What hand did you try to slap him with?”“Huh?” Leo asked in confusion. Was his boss mad that he slapped a common man like Byron, an ordinary live-in son-in-law, to his friend’s family? SMACK! SMACK!Leo received two simultaneous slaps from Carol as her expression hardened even further. Her eyes narrowed at him and her nose flared.Ah! He real
“What did you just say!” Grandma Jane asked after dropping her fork. At the Armstrong mansion, the old lady sat at the dining table, staring intensely at Liam who looked extremely displeased. He had to admit it, his blood was boiling and he wanted to explode! How the hell could that lady make him do that in public? What was making him even more pissed was the fact that that stupid oaf, Byron, patted his head, calling him a fucking good boy!He just didn't get it! Who the fuck was that woman? And how in hell did Byron get close to someone that powerful? Even his friend who is the company's PR0 obeyed her like she was the president herself. At some point, he almost thought she was the president but everyone knows Mega Corporation's president is a man. ‘I smell something fishy!’ He thought. But he wouldn't give Byron the pleasure of having the last laugh. He cleared his throat then glared at Maggi and the rest before turning to Old lady Jane, “It’s all Byron's fault, Granny.” He star
Byron was about to go to bed that night in the rented condo he was living in when his phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the caller ID and it was none other than Maggi. He frowned but he picked up the call, wondering why she would be calling him at this time of the night.“What do you want?” Byron said coldly from his end of the phone.“Byron…” Maggi let his name roll off her tongue in a seductive and coquettish tone.It was a trick she had honed over the years to manipulate him. She knew he couldn’t resist her whenever she spoke in that manner and she was right. Even though Byron was mad at her and wanted nothing to do with her, hearing her speak in that matter softened his tone, after all, she was a woman he had been in love with for years.“I asked you a question Maggi, what do you want?” “I know what I did is very despicable to say the least, and you have every right to be mad at me and never want to talk to me again but this is not about me, it’s about Ava, she misses you. She
Byron wakes up with no idea of what happened after he dropped the drink Maggi had given him last night. All he could remember was her trying to apologize before everything went blank. In the CEO's office at Mega Corporation, Carol's eyes widened in shock as she opened the email that was sent to her. Slowly, she raised her head at Byron who was busy going through the contracts he was supposed to sign for a new project. “Something wrong?” Byron asked, his aura chilling and his face still glaring at the papers in his hands. Carol gulped then reluctantly turned her phone for him to see. Byron raised his head and the files in his hands almost dropped out of shock. What?! It was a video of him and a woman in bed! He clenched his fist then stretched his hands to collect the phone for a close view. He narrowed his eyes and tried to zoom in but the woman was blurred out. “How did you get this, Carol?” He asked, his brows creased. “From a close associate, sir. The video is on
Shell-shocked, everyone stared at Byron, their mouths wide open with a complicated expression. Liam's eyes darkened. An apology conference? He must be out of his goddamn mind to give them such conditions. How can a poor loser who once lived by the Armstrong family's grace say such a thing? Old lady Jane bit her lower lip, staring bitterly at Byron who simply ignored the look on her face. While Liam was trying to control the urge of slapping sense into the fool's head. He stood from his seat and pointed his index finger at Byron, “Are you mad?! Or you're just out of your mind? How dare you give us such conditions? Do we look like beggars to you?” Liam roared, his voice sharp. “There’s no way in hell, I and my family are going to kneel before a disgusting lowlife dog like you!” Byron ignored him, adjusting his tie with a calm expression, “My rules; invite all the press and different reporters to the event. Lastly, it has to be tomorrow.” Byron said, rubbing his palms. He e
First a stupid script, now platinum Media? Liam dropped the script and narrowed his eyes at Byron like he was going to uproot his head.He brought his phone out and quickly texted a particular number before walking towards Byron… Since Platinum Media was here, instead of his family getting humiliated… Why don't he just spoil the fun? He clenched his fist and walked up to Byron, ignoring the camera's flash light that was almost blinding him as he approached Byron's seat. Byron raised his head as Liam got close, smiled and lowered himself to whisper something to him, “You are nobody, and since you asked for this, then be my guest.” Just as Byron was about to talk, Liam stormed out of the hall. Within a blink of an eye, there was a sudden black out which left everyone extremely speechless. The Armstrongs were stunned, so were the guests and there was so much noise. They couldn't see each other as the hall was as dark as a cave.Byron frowned. This wasn't the agreement. He reached fo
