“Uh…nothing, nothing at all, we… were.. just…” Sucre didn't know what to say next as he was sweating, stuttering and shaking at the same time.

He had never been more nervous. The cops almost caught them moving their bunk, what if they had seen the hole?

Byron, who noticed Sucre had run out of what to say, quickly helped, “....Trying to adjust it… nothing serious, officer.”

Suddenly, the noise from underneath their cell could be heard again. It started off slowly and bit by bit, it migrated into a loud noise, and this time, the cops noticed.

They turned to each other and then back to the inmates.

“What's that? What's that sound I'm hearing?”

“Fuck!” Sucre cursed inwardly. Then he wiped his sweat, turning to Byron to help the situation. He remembered he had warned him about this but he had turned a blind eye to it.

“Um… that's the sound of the rats… it's usually like that here…. right, Sucre?” Byron said and asked Sucre who nodded nervously.

“Exactly.”
