Power is always associated with trouble. Sometimes it is great enough to save us from trouble, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes it is so great that trouble can't get close and sometimes its greatness is the reason why trouble comes.
Sometimes it's not about how you use it, sometimes it's about the power itself. The mere existence of a certain power could stir up fear, awe, hatred and envy depending on who percieved it and how they do.
"My power is supposed to kind that helps me escape trouble" Victor said to himself as he drove through an empty road with nothing but desert on both sides.
"But unfortunately" he said with a sigh
"I'm stuck with a lot of trouble magnets"
"What a drag"
It wasn't long before the lonely house in the middle of nowhere came into view but it wasn't the only thing in sight. What was seen was both scary and magnificent.
A lone cowboy stood in front of the house and before him was a fresh field of corpses that spread far around the house in the desert. One could tell that the battle had just ended as the cowboy was still breathing heavily while facing the sky with his eyes closed. His pose was perfect for the poster of a wild west movie.
The first change in the posture of the cowboy was to turn his head to look at Victor who had just come down from the ambulance.
"Friend or foe?" The cowboy asked in a calm voice but Victor could not handle the uneasiness that came from his gaze.
"Friend" Victor answered with hesitation and the cowboy straightened himself and turned to properly face Victor.
"Wrong password" the cowboy said in a quick breath and quickly drew out his revolving pistol to fire. The only thing Victor was fast enough to do before the shot was fired was to consider his own death. One shot from a well fashioned Blackhawk revolver in the hands of master marksman was quite deadly but luckily for Victor, it wasn't his day to die.
The shot was fired, the sound was heard but when Victor opened his eyes, he wasn't dead. He beheld a thick shield made purely of water and a magnum bullet trapped inside it.
"There are no friends..." a familiar voice said from the distance
"...There are no foes..."
"...only those that want to kill us..."
"... and those who don't"
"Are these your friends?, Market boi" the cowboy asked as turned too see where the voice came from.
"Oh, you still call me that too?" Orie replied with a weakened voice.
"Hello Phil"
"I like what you've done with the place" he said, drawing a short breath.
"If we're done here" Orie said
"Let's all go inside"
"I have important news to deliver"
The message was important but it wasn't urgent, this was noted by the fact that Orie insisted on everyone resting and having dinner before he relayed any information. The fact that a message which was deemed important was said to not be urgent could mean many things but considering what everyone had been through, they knew he insisted on rest because they needed enough energy to handle whatever news was going to be relayed.
"I spoke to the gods earlier today" he said suddenly as everyone was still eating
"And I know why no priest has been chosen to replace Matéo" he continued uninterrupted
"Here is what they had to say"
"To break the barrier at the seventh heaven"
"And lead mankind to true peace"
"Our divinty is the key"
"And our essence shall open the door"
"What does that mean?" Shiro asked
"Yeah, I don't actually understand it either" Mia added
"Yeah, me too" Natsumi said
"Me three" Naomi said with her hand raised and Yamato was wondering why there were two Natsumis in the same room.
"You don't really have to think much about it" Victor said with a sigh.
"The only part of this message we can understand is the one that concerns us"
"And it is one simple message"
"THE GODS ARE DYING"
"And the priests we currently have left are the last"
"The age of priests is coming to an end"
"And we must be ready to deal with what comes after"
"So how do we solve the drought problem?" Nega asked, looking at Orie
"They kinda forgot to add that to their message"
"No need to worry about that" Orie replied
"I already have it covered"
"How?" Nega asked
"Let me explain" Orie answered
"The agriculture of Matéo's province was accelerated his god's blessing, this took a heavy toll on the land and as soon as the blessing was removed, the land took a rest and stopped producing. The land will recover naturally but it would take years so I will take responsibility for them till then. I've already called my people and they are willing to supply everything"
"What I am really worried about is the death of the gods"
"It is certain that the order will return, and that they will be stronger than ever were"
"The power of the gods would have been a great asset in the coming battle now we know that things are going to be a lot harder to deal with and I worry for the future generations"
"We can just end the order in this generation, can't we?" Shiro asked
"If that were possible" Orie replied
"I would not be as worried as I am right now"
"Those that we have been fighting for the past thousand years are only a small fraction of what the order truly is"
"We don't where they are but I am sure that many of them are not on this Earth"
"We do not know when they will come but it is very likely that they will come when they come when see us at our weakest"
"So what can we do?" Victor asked
"The truth is" Orie replied
"There is nothing we can do"
"We can only hope that whoever gets to face them would have the strongest of wills and the most convenient of abilities"
"Let's solve our own problems first"
"And hope they can solve theirs"
The whole room remained silent for a while as everyone pondered on what Orie had said. They had solved the problem they came to solve but were faced with even more problems and among them were those ones they couldn't even try to solve.
The silence was only broken by everyone getting up from their chairs and saying goodnight to each other as they had nothing else to say. They tried their best to sleep peacefully but considering the news they had just heard it was impossible for them(with the exception of Shiro and Yamato who were already used to sleeping through precarious situations.
The night went by, the morning came and it was time to go. The task had been completed and school was returning to session. Naomi was the first to take her leave after properly introducing herself to everyone. No one wanted to experience Orie's teleportation again so Nega brought them to shipping harbour.
"But aren't ships slow?" Shiro asked and Nega just smiled and replied "not this one" as he pointed to one of the ships.
"It looks like every other ship" Yamato pointed out
"Ha ha ha" someone laughed loudly from the background. They turned around to see a man who was well in his middle ages dressed in a Captain's uniform.
"I see we have some first timers today" the man said
"I am Edward Clipper"
"And I am the captain of this ship"
SHIN SEKAI SECRET: after Shin's great attack on the prophets of the order, there was barely anything left of the building they all gathered in. The resulting damage so much that as he laid immobilized on the floor, all he could see was a clear blue sky.
Our heroes leave the gangster's paradise and head back for home to deal with the issues they already had going on.
A tournament draws near and they get their chance to shine. Will they make a great impression and show to the world "THE BLINDING LIGHT"
"A great awakening happened once" "And the people of the world regained the sense of self they never knew they had lost" "Returning along with it was their greed, and their desire to own things." "All property was unclaimed and the race to claim them was intense, so intense that it lead to fights, then small group battles, then full scale wars between Nations." "Our freedom from the order brought a chaos that that we could not handle" "And it took a long time before we could attain balance" These were the words of Edward Clipper as he sat with them through the journey. "Why are you telling us this?" Shiro asked and Edward answered. "It is a truth I must speak as a descendant of one who saw it all with open eyes" he said "All the land was taken over by the order but the sea wasn't, and the sea was the home of my ancestors" "As those who were unaffected by the enslaving rule of the order, they witnessed the unfolding phenomenon with full awareness and
When your life is weird enough that travelling half across the world by sea in a single morning doesn't freak you out, you know you need a break. But unfortunately for Shiro, the weirdness of his life doesn't allow for breaks either. As he laid on his bed to get some extra shut-eye, someone knocked on the front door of his house. He was too lazy to answer it and remained on his bed whining about it. "Oh, come on" he lamented "I just got back" "Can't someone just let me sleep in peace" "Even if it is just five minutes" Soon the knocking stopped and it was then that Shiro remembered that he had left the door open. "Oh, shit" By the time he realized what was going on, there was a stranger in his room and he was jumping out the window. "What's with the grin?" Shiro wondered as he looked back at the crazy looking guy that was after him. "Do these guys ever get tired?" He asked as he kept running. Shiro ran until the was far enough from him house and in a
"The breeze in the west shall become the storm in the east" "It shall become a powerful force in the north" "And a sight of awe in the south" "And when it returns to the west..." "It shall be unstoppable" "My dear boy, Andrew Clipper" "These are not mere words" "This is your story" On hearing this, Andrew opened his eyes. He was on his knees and Orie stood beside him, placing a hand on his head. The room was dark and was lit by seven candles, and there was no one else in the room with them. Though all the doors and windows in the room were closed an intense wind blew within it. Gradually, the wind got stronger and blew ferociously around the empty room. It was strange that the seven candles didn't go off. "You are a storm that will sweep through all" "A wind that can move lands" "A reckoning force of greatness" "An unbreakable wind" "That, is what you are" Shiro was waiting for them outside the room. Throughout his the time he was wa
The new world tournament was one unique tournament. Despite the fact that it was held by a school and it's participants were staff and students, it still managed to draw worldwide attention. One contributing factor to this could be that the Shin-sekai academy was a prestigious school and was attended by the children of many of the world's elites but the major factor was that it proved to be more entertaining than many others in the world. The structure of the tournament was divided. The teachers' tournament took place first then the students' came after. After winners had been decided from both sides, the two winners would then have a face off. The winner of the previous teacher's tournament was Fuji Waramaki who had remained undefeated for five years. He also won all the face-offs with the student champions. The teachers tournament was full of old faces and the only two new faces in the tournament were Orie and Natsumi. Not many expected a different result from the teach
Just in case you were wondering where the fight was happening, the SHIN SEKAI company built a large stadium in the middle of the island where all roads cross. It was not exactly a hard place to find; in fact it was the most findable place in all of the island. The city was crowded with people from all over the world who were there for many different reasons. With the exception of those that came to spectate the matches, the most common visitors to this event were scouts and reporters. The tournament may not do much for the teachers, but it had the power to determine the future of the students that participated. "Ellie Porter here, reporting live from stadium one" a woman spoke with a clear voice as she stood with a microphone in front of a camera man. "As you can see, people from all over the world have come to witness the first match of the new world tournament" "This tournament was first introduced thirteen years ago on the same year that the school was built"
"Ellie Porter here" "Live from the inside of the stadium and best seat in the house" "The starting buzzer for the match has been sounded but neither of the contenders have moved from their starting positions" "Cal is taking his time to charge up his power but we have no idea why Orie hasn't moved yet" "I still stand on my support for him but he has done what the rest of the world consider to be the greatest mistake in the history of this tournament" Ellie was right. Everyone that won against Cal in the previous tournament was powerful but that wasn't the only reason they won; they were able to win because they stopped him from charging up properly. The last person that let him charge up fully got knocked out in one hit and that was the expectation most of the crowd had for Orie. Soon, Cal had finished charging up. One could tell by the steam-like aura that could be seen emanating from his body. He got ready to move as the cheering of the crowd got louder; he was con
You never truly appreciate a miracle unless you heard of it before it happened. That moment when the thing you thought was just too impossible begins to unfold before you for the very first time. There is no look more precious than that of one who has had such experience. Miracles happen only once. After that, it becomes a possibility. Cal and Orie were initially rated on a seven to one ratio. This meant that the officials of this tournament believed that Cal was at least seven times more powe6r than Orie and seven times more likely to win. At the current time the ratio had become ten to one. It seemed hopeless for the few that had put their faith in Orie. The match wasn't over but the situation made them feel the winner was already decided. "What is he doing in there?" "Does he have a death wish?" "Just give up already!!"even some of those that were on his opponent's side felt pity for him but Orie was not one to dwell on pity. He could not hear their words, al
There was complete silence in all parts of the stadium. It wasn't that people had nothing to say but what could they say that could explain what just happened before their eyes? They just watched as the referee ran in to confirm the outcome. It took longer than usual as the referee also had his doubts but in the end he had no choice but to declare Cal unable to continue. The silence broke immediately he stood up to declare Orie the winner. The doubt of many began to flow out in words. "IT'S A LIE!!" "THIS IS BULLSHIT!!" "THIS GAME IS RIGGED!!" There was no word of doubt that was not spoken at that moment. Even when the medics came out to put Cal on a stretcher, people still thought it was an act. What could Orie do? He had just won a match and no one believed it. There was hardly anyone cheering for him, all the loud voices expressed nothing but doubt, hate, and disbelief. Despite all the hate he was getting, he just cracked a smile and walked out of the arena
