CHAPTER 4

Akim's pov

I got to the gas station quickly since it was already close to the outskirts. There were very few residents in this area, so the number of zombies was far less than in the city center. However, I remained vigilant as I approached the gas station. Fortunately, I didn't encounter too many zombies on the way here, just a few zombies I saw and ran over with my Jeep. On getting to the gas station, I spotted three zombies that looked like they used to be gas station employees judging from the logo on their outfits resembling the one on the sign board. I took a shotgun I found in the jeep, then got down and got their attention cocking the shotgun; as they turned to me and started charging at me, I headshot all three of them. I looked around and found one crystal from their dead bodies then kept it inside my pocket with the rest. So far I had only gotten five in total on my way to the gas station.

After dealing with three zombies that used to be gas station employees, I refueled the off-road jeep and found several more oil barrels after scurrying around the place to fill up then I carefully and discreetly stored them in my storage space, since the box increased in size to match what I'm storing it was easy to keep it in.

Narrator's POV

Unbeknownst to Akim, in a small room on the third floor of the gas station, three teenage boys and two teenage girls saw him arrive in the jeep. They were all students from a nearby university and hoped that he would give them a lift to a nearby private airfield ten kilometers away. It turned out that one of the girl's father was a nationally renowned wealthy businessman who had sent a private jet to pick her up. However, there was no suitable landing area near the gas station, so the girl needed to go to the designated open space. As they were deliberating on what they should do, they saw him kill the three zombies that had killed people earlier and made them hide like rats as they looked at him in awe confirming he was the right man for the job, they took a gamble to see if he could help them and went turn stairs to meet him.

Akim's POV

Immediately after I finished storing the oil barrels, I heard footsteps stepping at my back. I quickly turned around and aimed the shit gun at what was creeping at my back cocking it as I saw five terrified teenagers, three boys, and two girls. I then lowered the gun a bit still keeping my guard up.

"Where did you all come from?" I asked

"W-w-we were hiding from the zombies you just killed," one of the girls said shaking looking at the carcass of the zombies

"Go on" I urged

"We thought you could help us get away from this place," said one of the boys

I don't think that's something I can do; they all look like liabilities and would be too stressful to manage; even if I were to help them, there's nothing I can gain from helping these kids, and it would disrupt my plans, so there's no reason I need to help them.

"I can't help you guys I have things I need to take care of," I said coldly

"But why can't you help us" said the girl as she began to cry

" Come on, Emma, let's go back in before more zombies appear," said one of the boys, urging her. As they began to turn, I stopped them.

" Wait*I said, lowering the shotgun; one of my sisters' names is Emma and I don't think I would want my sister to be in this kind of situation.

"Where are you going?" I asked as all their faces brightened up

"An open space just 10 kilometers from here," she said as she explained her whole ordeal to me and how they thought I would be able to get them there safely. I saw it as an opportunity to get a lift to my parent's home, which would make my journey much faster since it was on my way.

"I have a condition, which is when we get to the jet I get to ride with you and get dropped off somewhere," I said

"I can tell my dad and he'll take care of it," she said

"All right then, let's roll," I said, trying to sound cool but I only earned concerned stares from them.

I then began the journey with Emma sitting at the front and the rest at the back since there was enough space. I soon learned the other girl's name was Joanna and the boy's names were Joshua, Richard, and Jonathan.

"Do you have a car charger?" Emma asked "I need to let my dad know we're on the way but my phone's out of battery"

"Check if you would see one I'm that compartment over there," I said pointing to a compartment in front of her as she rummaged through all that was there till she finally found it then charged her phone

"Is this a grenade?" Asked Emma as she pulled out a grenade from the compartment "What is a grenade even doing in your car" She started the play with it

" Put it back," I said sternly as I didn't want to be blown apart inside the car

" Fine Old man," she said as the others started laughing

" What's with your bucket of bolt anyways? "Asked Joshua referring to my Jeep

" It's an off-road jeep modified to defend against zombies not a bucket of bolts," I said getting pissed off

" Yeah, right, my dad owns a car factory, and this looks like something that's going to the car crusher so it can be recycled, "he said as all of them started laughing as they kept on making fun of me.

I soon found out how incredibly arrogant these kids were as they tried to boss me around and treated me like a slave, demanding food and water and even humiliating me as if it was my duty to provide for them. They were all spoilt rich brats who treated people as lowlifes and were very rude.

They continued their humiliation as I couldn't take it anymore and had to teach them a lesson as I packed the jeep.
