Alex opened his eyes and saw that he was surrounded by a sea of dead monsters.

As he raised his hand, he noticed that it was covered in a thick, black substance that seemed to be pulsing with a strange energy. He tried to shake it off, but it only seemed to spread further up his arm.

Confused and a bit alarmed, Alex looked around at the sea of dead monsters surrounding him. He had no memory of how he got there or what had happened. The last thing he remembered was...

His mind was a blank. He couldn't recall anything.

Suddenly, a faint humming noise caught his attention. It was coming from the black substance on his hand. As he watched, the substance began to glow with a soft, blue light.

Alex felt a strange sensation wash over him, as if the substance was communicating with him. He could sense its power, its energy, and its hunger.

The humming noise grew louder, and the blue light intensified. Alex felt himself being drawn into the substance, as if it was pulling him into a vortex.

He tried to resist, but it was too late. The substance seemed to engulf him, and everything went dark.

When Alex came to, he was lying on a cold, damp floor. The black substance was still on his hand, but it was no longer glowing. He sat up slowly, looking around at his surroundings.

He was in some kind of cave or cavern. The walls were rough and rocky, and the air was musty and dank. There was a faint smell of decay, and Alex could hear the sound of dripping water echoing off the walls.

As he struggled to his feet, Alex noticed that the black substance on his hand seemed to be spreading. It was creeping up his arm, covering his skin with its dark, pulsing energy.

He tried to shake it off, but it only seemed to spread further. Alex felt a growing sense of panic as he realized that he had no control over the substance.

It was as if it had a life of its own, and it was determined to consume him.

Suddenly, Alex heard a faint rustling noise coming from the depths of the cave. It was soft at first, but it quickly grew louder, until it sounded like a chorus of scuttling, scratching creatures.

Alex's heart was racing as he turned to face the noise. He could see a dark, amorphous mass emerging from the shadows, its edges writhing and twisting like living tendrils.

The mass was made up of countless small, insect-like creatures, each one covered in the same black, pulsing substance that was spreading across Alex's arm.

As the creatures drew closer, Alex felt a sense of primal fear wash over him. He knew that he was in grave danger, and that he had to get out of there as fast as he could.

But as he turned to run, Alex felt the black substance on his arm surge with energy. It seemed to be responding to the creatures, drawing power from them.

And in that moment, Alex realized that he was connected to the creatures, to the substance, and to the very energy that was coursing through his veins.

He was no longer just a human being. He was something more... Something ancient or even something powerful. He had never felt this way before, or perhaps he has but could no longer remember.

As the creatures closed in around him, Alex felt his body begin to change. His muscles grew stronger, his senses more acute. He could feel the power of the substance coursing through him, urging him to unleash its fury upon the world.

And with a roar of primal energy, Alex let the power consume him. He felt himself becoming one with the creatures, with the substance, and with the very essence of the cave itself.

As the transformation took hold, Alex knew that he would never be the same again. He was no longer just a human being. He was a monster. A creature of darkness.

Soon after, everything went dark.

Alex's eyes slowly fluttered open, and he was met with the familiar sight of the clinic's white walls and sterile equipment. He let out a sigh of relief, thinking that the horrific events he had just experienced were nothing more than a vivid dream.

But as he tried to move his body, he noticed something strange. His leg, which had been broken and throbbing in pain just hours before, now felt...fine. More than fine, actually - it felt strong and whole, as if the injury had never occurred in the first place.

Alex's eyes widened in shock as he sat up and examined his leg. There was no cast, no bandages, no signs of injury whatsoever. It was as if his body had somehow healed itself overnight.

He threw off the covers and swung his legs over the side of the bed, testing his weight on the formerly injured leg. It held firm, without even a hint of pain or weakness.

Alex's mind was reeling. Had he really dreamed the whole thing? Or had something more extraordinary happened? He thought back to the strange, pulsing substance that had covered his hand, and the way it had seemed to spread throughout his body.

A shiver ran down his spine as he realized that maybe, just maybe, his dream had been more real than he thought.

*Knock* Knock*

His thoughts were distracted by the knocking on his door and he just wondered who it was that might be knocking.

He quickly climbed into the bed and covered his body back, when he was good to go, he glanced at the door.

"Come in," he said but the door did not open. "I said come in!" He said, louder but still, no one came. 'What's going on?' He thought as he came down from the bed.

He slowly walked to the door, part of him was telling him to go back but he was curious. Who was it that knocked just some seconds ago and why didn't the person come inside?

His mind reeled with many questions as he walked to the door and when he opened it, he was surprised to find no one there.

"Huh?" He mumbled as he looked around the corridors, no one was, not even a fly. Perplexed, he turned to go back inside but all of a sudden, he caught sight of an envelope on the ground.

At first, he did not want to touch it but after thinking for long, he bent down and slowly picked the envelope up. He glanced around again and then went back inside.

He sat down on his bed and went ahead to open the envelope. On doing so, he found a letter inside.

As Alex read the content of the letter, his eyes widened in shock and horror. His face paled, and his hands began to shake uncontrollably. He felt as if he had been punched in the gut, and his breath was knocked out of him.

He read the letter again and again, hoping that the words would change, that it was all some kind of sick joke. But the words remained the same, burning into his brain like a branding iron.

Alex's mind was reeling, and he felt like he was going to pass out. He stumbled to his feet, the letter still clutched in his hand, and staggered to the window. He threw it open, letting in a blast of cold air, and leaned out, gasping for breath.

The words of the letter kept echoing in his mind, taunting him, haunting him. He felt like he was living in a nightmare, and he couldn't wake up.

As he stood there, frozen in shock and horror, the letter slipped from his fingers and fluttered to the ground, carried away by the wind. Alex didn't even notice. He couldn't believe his eyes and before he knew what was happening next, he ran out of the clinic.
