Three Days Later

Archie walked up to the entrance of the restaurant, his heart sank as he pushed open the door and stepped inside.

The sight that greeted him was worse than he had imagined. The dining area was empty, tables untouched, chairs neatly arranged as if waiting for people who never arrived. A few of the restaurant workers were gathered near the counter with nothing to do and no one to attend to as they were conversing.

“Mr Archie!” one of the waiters called out as soon as she saw him. She hurried over, relief mixed with desperation in her eyes. “Thank goodness you’re here. We haven’t had a single customer all morning. And it’s been like this for days.”

Archie frowned, glancing around the empty room. “No customers at all?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.

She shook her head. “None. And the workers are getting restless, sir. We haven’t been paid in a while, and everyone’s worried about how they’re going to make ends meet.”
