All the members of the Sterling family were having dinner. Though some people were missing, the ones present there still tried to look happy.

“So, you two are going to stay at a different house,” Jacob looked at his daughters. “Why so suddenly?”

“Mom already agreed to it,” Rebecca said.

“I know that, but why do you want to live on your own?” Jacob asked. “When we are in crisis, we should stick together. That’s common sense. If we split up and go different directions, then the Sterling family will really fall apart.”

“The Sterling family has long fallen apart, Dad…” Rebecca hesitantly said. “Don’t talk as if it’s only happening now.”

Jacob’s gaze reddened somewhat. “Nobody in this world is perfect, Rebecca. I’m not the only father who has dirt in his life. Almost everyone I know has lots of dirt they keep buried in their lives.”
