Chapter 75

Ryan watched Anna walk  slowly to the dead child on the sofa. He was expecting her to burst into tears, jump around hysterically and scream her lungs out but she didn't do any of that, she knelt by the sofa and held the girl's hand.

The action was familiar to Ryan. When a worker, back in his house in New York, had come to him to announce the death of his mother. He'd ran to her room, thinking that the worker had made a mistake. Inside his mother's room, everyone was crying. He even saw a drop of tears run down his tough father's face, but he had been emotionless. He had wanted to  cry, he had wanted to throw himself on the floor, shout, scream and do a lot of things, but he had not found the energy to do it. He had just held his mother's cold hands and stared at her.

Ryan bit hard on his lower lip as he watched Anna trying to process the death of her daughter. He tried to find words to comfort her, but his brain was completely empty.
