3. A Secret

The incident happened so quickly that Brian didn't even realize he had been pushed to the right by his grandfather. His body swayed slightly but he survived the unfortunate incident.

However, another fact shook him greatly. His eyes stared intently at the body of his grandfather who was hit by a car.

"Grandpa." His screams sounded so heartbreaking.

With so much shock he approached his grandfather along with the people who helped him.

"Help my grandfather! Please!" He shouted again.

His body was shaking violently and he even felt his consciousness was being lost somewhere when he saw an ambulance came and pick up his grandfather.

Brian was too shocked by the incident and was silent when the medical workers began to take action.

When they got to the hospital, Brian stared blankly as his grandfather was brought into the emergency room. However, at the same time, a man in his forties approached Brian with a guilty look.

"Excuse me. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I didn't see you and your grandfather crossing."

Brian turned to the person and immediately his emotions rose again, "What do you mean accidentally? Are you blind? The traffic light turns green for pedestrians."

"I'm sorry. I really didn't see that well, I apologize profusely." The man begged for mercy.

"Sorry? Was it that easy for you to apologize after putting my grandfather in there?" Brian pointed toward the emergency room.

"I will compensate for everything. I will cover all hospital costs. I promise."

Brian was even angrier at the words that were said casually. "You think all of that can return my grandfather in good health like before? Have you lost your mind, sir?"

"I know I can't but I promise I will pay for all the expenses until your grandfather recovers like before."

Brian was about to answer but suddenly he saw a doctor coming out of the emergency room and walking towards him.

Brian's heart skipped a beat when he saw the doctor's expression, "Mr. York's family?”

“Yes, doctor. I'm Brian, his grandson." His breathing was starting to be erratic and his heart was so uneasy.

The doctor took a deep breath. "I'm sorry, we've lost him. He had severe bleeding in the brain. We're sorry, we couldn't save him."

Hearing the doctor's words, Brian felt his soul leaving his body.

Meanwhile, the man who claimed to have hit Karl York also became weak and leaned against the waiting chair. With trembling lips he dared to said, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

Brian clenched his fists and turned to the person, "You must be held accountable for your actions at the police station."

The man turned pale but he couldn't do anything about it.

Brian walked towards a pay phone that was located not far from the area and immediately contacted Larry Fern, one of the people he considered to be his best friend.

"Larry, can you go to WestCliff hospital now?"

From across there Larry heard Larry reply, "WestCliff hospital? What are you doing there? Are you fighting? Are you seriously injured?"

Brian closed his eyes for a moment but immediately replied, "No, but my grandpa. He had an accident and is now dead. Larry, help me with Grandpa's funeral. Help, please!"

Not long ago, Larry came to the hospital and then helped Brian to return Karl York to their little house.

As soon as the body arrived at their residence, Larry immediately took care of everything. The young man was assisted by his father to help Brian and at all have not asked about what actually happened to his best friend.

None of their neighbors came to their house. Brian wasn't the least bit surprised by that. The neighbors didn't really like their presence because they considered it a nuisance.

The house Brian and Karl lived in was a small house located at the end of the BrownLand housing complex. Landowners in the area had asked Karl to sell his house to him but Karl York always refused it.

Even though the owner of the land in that area had intended to build a mini-market there.

However, because Karl insisted he didn't want to sell his house, he couldn't build it. That's what made Karl unpopular in that area.

But, in contrast to their neighbors, the grandfather's co-workers who came from street cleaners was there. They showed a great sense of loss.

"Brian, Karl is a good man, many people love him."

"If you need help, you can call us."

An old man sat beside Brian. "Karl is a great grandfather, isn't he?"

Brian nodded without hesitation. "He gave anything for me but ... I haven't been able to repay all of his kindness."

"You just have to be successful, Brian. It will make Karl happy."

That night became such a long night for Brian. He didn't sleep until morning.

"Brian, it's time for your grandfather to be buried." Larry reminded Brian.

"Okay."

Brian got up and motioned for people to carry Karl's coffin into Larry's father's car to be transported to the burial place. The cemetery was to be not far from where he lived so it didn't take long time.

When he was about to be buried, Brian was surprised by the arrival of someone he didn't want to see.

"What is that jerk doing here?"

Larry turned to Brian. "Edward Stein? Why did he come here?"

However, when Brian saw a man he recognized as the person who had hit his grandfather standing beside Edward, his anger was immediately raising.

"Brian, where are you going?" Larry was surprised to see Brian running up to Edward.

"What are you doing here?" Brian glared at Edward.

The young man glanced at the crasher who just looked down. "Hey man, calm down! I'm just joining in to express my condolences to you after my driver crashed your grandfather to death!"

"What? Is this person your driver?" Brian was shocked and because he couldn't control himself anymore, he finally punched Edward with all his might.

"You must have done it on purpose. Answer me!"

Edward wiped the bloodstain from his bottom lip, "Hey, that's a serious accusation. You could get in trouble, Jones."

Brian returned to launch another attack but this time Edward managed to avoid it.

"You don't know yourself! I was kind enough to come here but you accuse me of being reckless. Beat him up!"

The people were so shocked. The chaos made them run away because they didn't want to get involved. What's more, they knew that young people were rich people who could do anything.

Only Larry and his father Michael were still there. The two of them tried to help Brian but failed because they were forcibly dragged away.

Brian was beaten until he lost half of his consciousness.

Faintly he heard Edward say, "Hey, poor man. So, don't ever dare to hit me. Once you hit me, I'll hit back hundreds of times."

Edward laughed mockingly before ordering his men, "Let's get out of here!"

Brian lost his consciousness completely.

When he opened his eyes again, he realized that he was in an unfamiliar, unfamiliar room. He got up immediately and saw a male figure.

An old man sitting in a wheelchair with an IV in. The man looked so weak, "Brian, how are you?"

"Who are you? Why am I here?”

The old man smiled weakly, “Simon Jones. Your biological grandfather."

"Jones? My biological grandfather?" Brian's eyes widened.

Simon who was so weak nodded, "Look, I don't think I have much time left. So, listen to me carefully. I apologize for my mistakes in the past. And one more thing, sorry if I ask much from you."

Simon stopped for a while, "You are my only heir and pelase manage all my assets."

"What do you mean?" Brian still couldn't understand.

"Joe Maiden, he ... will explain everything and remember, Brian. He's the only person you can trust!"

After saying that, Simon grew weaker and lost consciousness. Brian was shocked again.

"Doctor! Nurse! Somebody help!"

Brian then saw a strange man who claimed to be his biological grandfather being carried by people. He was still sitting in a daze on his bed. After a few minutes, someone came back into the room.

"Mr. Jones is dead, Young Master."

Brian couldn't contain his surprise. "That old man died? And who are you and why do you call me 'Young Master'?"

"I am Joe Maiden, Mr. Jones' secretary. Of course I call you that because you are Mr. Jones' biological grandson."

"Wait a minute! You must be dead wrong. I ... couldn't possibly be that person's grandson just now. You've got the wrong idea."

Joe Maiden had a calm expression.

"Your last name is 'Jones,' right?"

"That still doesn't say I could be his grandson. 'Jones' is a common surname."

"Karl York was your God grandfather. You were previously adopted from an orphanage. Am I right?" Joe said calmly but Brian was still shocked.

"How do you know all that?"
