Chapter 17

As the drifting putrid stench filled the dimly lit alley, a shadow flashed before a tiny squeak was uttered. The little creature tiptoed carefully in its stride, eyes wary of the surroundings but still fixated upon a half chewed piece of ham in the middle of a muddy puddle. Before it could grab its prey, a series of footsteps echoed, bringing its ears to twitch as it realized the sounds became closer in rapid speed.

Soon enough, a figure way bigger than it was rushing forward, stomping at the puddle and scurrying away the critter. The figure gritted his teeth and sweats drenched the black shirt veiled by his fake, cheap leather jacket he found in some rundown shop. One of his eyes was swelling and he felt the pain and aches coming all over his body in this marathon. Still, he kept running, didn't turn his head even once, and tried to regulate his breath and posture, so he could run a little bit longer.

His sprint led him to a crossroads to which he finally stopped and felt his eyes
