Dumbfounded. That was the reaction of all the people before him until the thugs realized that they were threatened by a superhuman. At first, they exchanged glances at one another before one at the far right with bushy beard and the goofiest tattoo of an octopus on his arm stepped forward and explained themselves.
"Are you a Guardian? We belong to the Golden Coalition. We already have permits and this man signed our terms willingly."
Yunzheng stared at the middle aged man who was only cowering and hung his head low, avoiding Yunzheng's gaze. Seeing that, some of the thugs sneered and the first bearded man smiled and tried to say something.
But in the blink of an eye, Yunzheng already arrived at his side and grabbed the man's neck. Caught off-guard, the man let out a strange yelp as he was lifted, choked at the iron grip while his muscles shrunk and his strength leaving him in breakneck speed.
His friends who watched that, quickly rushed to Yunzheng, drawing out knives simultaneously. Yet in a single swing, Yunzheng threw the husk of a once muscular man to one of the thugs and faced the rest. The first attack came from his right side, aiming at his throat but with a slight twist of his body, Yunzheng struck the man's chest until it caved and the man flew backwards.
This time, two slash at both sides and the last moved to Yunzheng's blind spot, lunging to his back.
Energy covered his skin and he took all of them directly, resulting in shallow gash. As they marveled at the sight, Yunzheng's hands blurred. Making the neck of two thugs twisted while they only felt heavy impact on their chins.
When Yunzheng turned on his back, he saw the fading figure of the past thug, running to the intersection of the alleyway and left. Initially, Yunzheng was about to give chase but then felt a tinge of drowsiness within. Causing him to halt his step and wandered his gaze towards the victim of this ordeal.
'Too little… More…'
His eyes bloodshot and breath shorten, Yunzheng felt the urge and ecstasy from draining the previous thug. Before he knew it, his legs brought him in front of the middle aged man, who bowed to him and thanked him repeatedly.
Voice at the back of his head whispered, telling him to grab the unsuspecting prey and suck him dry. But just as Yunzheng lifted his hands, he snapped out of his reverie state. His rationality came to him and he held his breath.
"It's alright… Now, go."
The middle aged man nodded and ran right away. Watching the man's back, Yunzheng noticed another peculiarity from the people's reaction. It was obvious that he had killed almost all of the thugs and yet, the middle aged man didn't bat an eye. It was as if he was the one who was weird concerning that matter.
'Either that or the guy is an Oscar worthy actor.'
He glanced at the littered corpses and shook his head. Guiding his energy, he propelled himself back to the top of the skyscraper, thinking that he would need to seek for more targets or find a place that held a much higher energy.
'Or maybe…'
An idea crossed his mind and he gazed at the billboard which was displayed through a hologram in the distance. There, a man in striking posture, earning from the fancy clothes he wore as cool-looking gadgets of weaponry strapped around him, waved his hand. A name was shown below him, along with a title which Yunzheng had heard from the thugs.
"Guardian…"
The official name for the job he fancied to take before, now had made him remember that there were more than just your usual street bullies he could target. However, to hunt these so-called super villains, he would need a way, a channel, to locate them precisely.
'For now, let's go and strengthen myself first.'
With a sigh, he hastened his pace, crossing miles while actively hiding his figure through any obstacles. Coursing through dozens of blocks with heightened senses and seeking for any conflicts or possible crimes.
Occasionally, he would stop and sit down, choosing a spot to replenish his energy before he went on his merry way. After going with his vigilante act for five hours, the sun finally set and night descended upon the monstrous, unceasing city.
His little operation only netted him not more than two handfuls of people. Fortunately, the gathered energy, added with what he had scrapped from meditation, was a little bit enough to break through one small stage. Overall, making his cultivation raised, yet not too earthshaking.

As expected, the system updated his information in real time. The contract feature was still unavailable, unfortunately. However, good news came at a good time.
When he passed whatever block that he definitely knew nothing of, just like the rest of the blocks he randomly hopped to, sounds of fighting ensued not too far away, carried by the winds and his ears were sharp enough to pick it up.
The more he approached the place, the more there were unrecognizable noises mixed between. He felt like he heard the process of chopping blocks along with gurgling, drowning sounds, which didn't make sense until he saw it with his own eyes.
Amidst the screaming and screeching, a figure darted around with tentacle, liquid-like limbs coming out of his back and moved towards his surrounding assailants. Some tentacle would warp the people in black suit, drowning them in giant ball of water and some of the tentacle would whirl in the air, slicing through flesh and bones in one swipe.
As excitement glinted past his gaze, Yunzheng stared at the super that massacring others without a blink. Smile creeping up, he mumbled, guiding his energy within.
"Time for a hunt."
Lunging down, Yunzheng gathered part of the energy into his hands as he recalled a fist technique. Yet, in midair, he saw one of the liquid-like limbs fly in his direction even though he should be at the man's blind spot. With his instinct screaming at him, Yunzheng sent the punch right at the tip of the limb and felt as if he was hitting a plate of steel. Using the little rebound of their confrontation, he flipped his body and gained more distance from his target. Still, the latter appeared to have expected the scenario and won't let him go so easily. Two more semi transparent tentacles went their ways to stab him. In the short period of time and a brief glance, Yunzheng tried to twist his body and dodge, but they still grazed the right side of his waist and left shoulder. Bleeding, he rushed to his opponent with the fastest speed he could muster. The world turned into a crawl and he noticed the scowl of the super, who was at least six feet tall, wearing white shirt with black jac
Scorching. That was the feeling he felt on every inch of his flesh and bones. Yet, contrary to everything, his blood felt ice cold, freezing water in the chilliest winter which rolled through the head to the toe.The two opposite extremes slowly forging him, breaking and molding him before they cooled and healed everything. A full display of both torture and europhia that the sickest masochist would enjoy. After some period, he felt itches spreading under his skin and the foulest stench flooding his nostrils. For the uneducated, foolish amateurs, they would reeled in reflex or ignorance, bringing more harm than good in a span of breaths. He held in those urges to scratch or even to move at all, of course. Staying still like he was nothing more than a stone and a stone he was. At last, the contrast sensation, together with the itches and all had subsided to the point it was barely noticeable. Opening his closed-tight eyes, he rose and walked to a corner. Retched the blackish substanc
The same tranquil atmosphere and night, a scene Wei Long had gotten used to after a few years of night shift. His partner, Cai Mo, was across from him, reorganizing the cards on the table as he yawned. The dozens of monitors on their side were ignored, functioning on their lonesome for in the history of this building, almost no one would dare to make a mess or trespass illegally. There were hardly any valuable properties for those who wanted to barge in. Not to mention, this was the nest of ready-battle veterans with an armory full of weapons to boot. Not to mention the supers stationed in this place, watching like hawks and crouching in the dark like a hunting cheetah. A suicidal mission, that what it was. Although this place indeed held all of the important documents that might even be priceless if you knew their value, raiding this place was nonsensical.Something Wei Long would have to rethink for the very first time, a loud noise blaring out. Surprising the hell out of him and
When he woke up from the deep slumber, he shielded his eyes as bright light blinded his vision until he blinked a few more times. Adjusting his senses to the surroundings, he found himself laid on a cold floor and an almost empty room with only a single bucket could be spotted on one of the edges. One side of the walls was clear glass, where he sighted a man in uniform who sat on a chair while he fiddled with his exwatch. Oblivious to Yunzheng's state for his attention wholly focused on another thing and beside him, a table with a few sorts of things such as a plate of piled chips, cards, a glass that held what seemed to be half filled coffee, and a paper. Yunzheng rubbed his glabella and let out a soft groan when the circumstances finally sunken into his mind. He got captured, that much was obvious but what vexed him would be how he couldn't even guard against whatever skill that man with a mask thrown at him. Just in time, something rang within his head and a translucent blue scre
A bizarre sight even for Yunzheng as he saw the moving smoke coming from Gilbert and entered through the orifices of a full grown man. As if he couldn't breathe, the man held his neck, choking and his eyes bulged out until at last, he slumped to the ground. Eyes rolled backwards while Gilbert landed with a hop. [A Side Task has Appeared!] [Side Task : Escape the building with Gilbert's help in less than an hour! Rewards : Gilbert's level +5Failure : Suspend Gilbert for a few weeks.]Skimming through the notification, another shout ensued. This time, it sounded familiar and when Yunzheng glanced at the direction of the voice, there was a struggle between a full grown man and a cat which he couldn't touch. "You cannot be so rough to the soon-to-be noble, nya!"With its feet materialized out of the drifting smoke, Gilbert clawed the man's mask and knocked it away. The scarred feature had been displayed for the world to see and the man tried to cover his face with his hand. Still, th
It has always been a bad day for Chen Yue. Things in life have never been brightening up for her and at times, her hard work pays nothing. Sometimes, she would be assigned to a task which nobody wanted to get and most of the time, things went awry outside of her control. "So, how many people get injured, exactly?"When she said those words, she could feel her stomach churning and threatened her last lunch to get out of her system. As she walked beside her colleague, who flipped the stacked reports on his hand while they were both walking through the wrecked hallways filled with cracks and holes, the man finally replied. "Fifteen heavy injuries, twenty six minor injuries and light concussions, but there's four deaths of which two of them were Guardians, ma'am."The scene of a bellied pot, balding short man yelling at her face had appeared instantly in her mind. The day was when her team scheduled to watch over the newest troublemaker with abilities undetected by any sort of machines
While Yunzheng rode the wind in his wake, many kinds of thoughts raced in his head and some of them were just as he had expected. Recalling the brief moment he had when browsing through the document of his family back then, there was another piece of information that stated he was among the deceased. The official statement said how his entire body was devoured by Hofgast, the name of the gigantic monster back then which devastated a group of soldiers with ease. Information they gathered from some random witnesses on the scene and not to mention he was missing for all this time, it wasn't wrong for the government to declare him dead. That gave birth to a question which he was dying to know of. Whose body he was using right now? Through the reflection of glass that he had seen before, his face definitely looked like him, same height and same birthmark, a little mole right on his neck. Granted that his body was a little sluggish now than before, but that was because his body hadn't reta
As the sun slowly set from afar, Yunzheng enjoyed the strong breeze of autumn whilst he munched upon a half eaten hot dog in his hand and a bunch of food inside a plastic bag beside him. Both of his feet dangle on top of one of the skyscrapers, watching the bustling crowd and passing vehicles below."Master, this one found the nest of some thugs distance from this place."Gilbert's voice rang behind him, reminding him that he wasn't alone in his 'homeless venture'. After the disappearance of the cat, Yuzheng managed to steal another Exwatch which had a password in effect, making him unable to use it in the slightest and leaving it back at the entrance of the cafe. Still with no money and no place to call home, Yunzheng let out an almost inaudible sigh before he rose and turned to face Gilbert. Gilbert's small stature and twitching ears birth curiosity of his backstory along with the urge to pat the cute head. Still, he dispelled those thoughts instantly, focusing on the matter at han
