6th October afternoon and night
April slapped me while the bottle of Vodka was still at my lips. I had managed a good gulp but a lot more spilled over me and the floor. Out of anger and frustration, I hurled the bottle and it’s remaining contents at the wall. Nobody seemed to know what to say or do. Apart from James of all people. He pushed me down into a chair.
“Sit down Mr. That’s not nice.”
“Ok. Look I’m sorry. Once again we have tried to help and once again it has gone wrong. Yet another decision made by me. When will things go our way?”
“When nature is ready.”
How the fuck was James coming up with this shit. I guess he is right. Nature always sorts itself out. All we as humans do is fuck it up. It must be down to all his love for animals that has made him think this.
“Yes I guess your right James. Everyone I’m sorry for having a paddy like a toddler.”
15th OctoberThe last few days have been busy. Basically all of us went to Pennine manor and emptied it of anything of use. We killed a lot of zombies in different places and times but they mounted up. I’m starting to see we need people. I can’t do this on my own. I get up first and nine times out of ten I’m the last to bed. I’m working fifteen hours a day more some times. I thought the end of the world would knock the lazy out of people.Colin was fitting in nicely. He was well mannered and worked like a machine. He was like my shadow where ever I went he was there. He was ready for action at all times. Weather it was fighting or laboring he was keen to get stuck in. What I was thinking though was he had a brain in his head as well as a good attitude. He was going to make use of it. His schooling was going to start. I know I’m a fine one to talk. It was that rare that I went to school they thought I was trespassing. If s
19th OctoberThe day was here and I’m not going to lie. I don’t know if I’m going to shit a brick or if I’m just proper excited. Will anyone be waiting for us? I don’t even know who to take with me or how many. Should I go tooled up or relatively unarmed? If we go unarmed we are leaving ourselves open to attack. If we go armed to the teeth we will look like a threat and could lead to fighting. Oh my God, I need a fag a coffee and some air. I need to slow down and think clearly. Not telling people was a bad idea. They are going to hit the fucking roof when I tell them what I have done. What gave me the right to put us all at risk without talking it through. The chip on my shoulder is getting way too big. If I’m not careful I won’t be able to get my head through the door. The early morning air was beautiful and cool. A mist settled in the bottom of the valley. It reminded me of being in a plane looking down at t
Later 19th OctoberWhen the dust had settled and everyone was out at work I made excuses for me and April. Rita almost put a spanner in the works by saying she was thinking of going today. With some fast talking, I got her to wait at least one more day. Now me and April we’re on the road and going slow. I hoped that someone would be at one of the meeting spots and at the same time hoped there wasn’t.I could not believe my eyes when we got close to the first meeting point. There it was Itchy's fucking tank. He had driven through garden walls and parked bang under the painted sigh. He wasn’t out of his tank that I could see but it was definitely his tank. No one else had one. I wonder if he has always thought this day would come or if he was just wrong in the head. Well I know he is wrong in the head but planning maybe. I park close but far enough away to be able to scarper quick if needed. With nothing blocking our exit. I look April in the
20th OctoberRita has been a thorn in my side for some time now but her attitude has changed. She is less hostile and more use lately. Maybe being a bitch was just her way of dealing with her grief. I can’t remember how she was when she first came to us now. Her attitude had overwhelmed everything. She was saying she wanted to go today. It might just be my imagination but Itchy was making her laugh. He was a lot older than her but she looked to be flirting with the stinky old man. At a guess I would he was at least twenty years older than her. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.I hopped that the message I had heard was true. That there was some kind of government on the coast. If there was that Rita would make it to them in one piece.I went outside with Gaz to load my Vespa onto the back of my truck. James was stronger than either of us but he was thick as two short planks. I didn’t trust he wouldn’t drop it
Time was coming to go and see if my old teacher was going to behave. Mr Stainburn and I have never been on good terms. Maybe an apocalypse has changed him and he is now a reasonable human being. Who am I trying to kid I saw the people with him? They were worked up and wanted blood. The second we moved they were on us. There is no way I’m going to be able to negotiate with them. I will go and meet with him but I won’t be unprepared. Two days back I made Gaz Earl and wright go out with the rifles to practice sniping from a good distance around one hundred and fifty meters. When they were hitting the same target consistently I broke the news to them about the meeting and how I had set it up. Gaz went fucking ballistic. “You go on and on at us about being safe. Always let other know where your going and why. You oh no not you Mr Sid I can do what the fuck I want even if it means I might get killed. Out of everyone you have been in more danger than any of us. Now
Being left on my own knowing there was a threat near made me very uneasy. I was more on edge than ever. Right now I would prefer facing a huge mob of zombie’s with a pride of zombie lions. Watching the guy’s go was hard. It felt like I was on my own and I was never going to see them again. We must not fail. Gaz is going to be a dad. Lucy can not be left now. I need to get out of this mood. When the Guys goy in the truck I hid behind a wall. The plan was that if anyone was watching they would think we all left together. In reality I had jumped over a wall and laid down out of sight hopefully. The grass was long but not long enough to fully hide me but it was all I had. After ten minuets I got up and looked around. Keeping as low as I could I peeked over the wall. The zombies we had just killed were gone. The field we had been in was completely empty. It was like nothing had happened. It also meant we were being watched. By who was the question that was bugging
It was obvious that there was something in this house. You know when you know there is someone near but you can’t see them. This is how I was feeling now. I know that something is coming to me as well as the zombies brewing at the door. There was a thud and then an old woman’s voice. Well that’s how it sounded to me. The slight croak and waver of old age. It could be an old man with a high pitched voice for all I know at this moment.“Oh my goodness. Oh well whoever is in here drop your weapons. Don’t swear if you know what’s good for you. I can’t stand foul language.”“I cant drop them if the undead get in here i need to defend myself.”“If you don’t drop them your dead and I’ll feed you to them myself.”This old person had a bad ass attitude and I liked it. With threats coming at me from every angle i tossed down my weapons with a smile. Then called up to my host.
The barking was getting louder as I carefully crept around our house. Voices we’re starting to be heard but I couldn’t make out there tone or words as yet. Big drips of rain started to fall from the sky even though the sky only had some clouds. It was strange when we got these little cloud bursts happen. Just one small cloud empties itself in a few minutes and stops.Footsteps started running in my direction. Splashing in the wet ground. Getting closer and closer. More and more splashes coming. I got my bat ready to swing at the first person to run around the corner.Jessie bounded past me in a quick blur. Then Lucy followed. I stopped my swing pulling my shoulder slightly. Lucy flinched and ducked slipping but keeping on her feet.“Fuck me Sid. What you doing?”“Are you all ok?”April jogged around the corner next holding the hands of two kids Frank and Daniel. James and Colin bumped into the others.&ldq
