Shock is an understatement of what Jake felt when he saw the pictures of his wife in Ivy's wardrobe. What hooked him the most was that her face was marked with a red marker. He wasn't one to take the scenes in movies to heart but he had seen something like that in movies and he knew that it was always a bad sign. Beads of sweat formed on his face as he turned the picture around and coordinates that were written at the back of the picture. He quickly keyed in the cordinates and he got direction to an unknown location. His eyes widened as he looked at the location again. Out of fear of getting the wrong cordinates, he keyed it in again. It was about to open when he heard movements. Jake quickly placed the picture back to where he got it from. His heart was beating too fast and he didn't care to check if he put it back exactly as it was or not. He moved away from the wardrobe and headed to a chair. Just then, Ivy bursted into the room looking very excited. "Hey baby!" She squealed and
Jake drove with speed and every so often, he would look back, afraid that Ivy was following him or that he was walking into a trap. After all, Ivy was a secret detective. It was possible that those coordinates could be leading to a location where she kept a hardened criminal for questioning. Or it could be her base of operations or even a secret FBI location. All these assumptions frightened Jake but they didn't deter him from moving forward. He needed to know why his wife's face was marked in red. He needed to know why Ivy had her picture in the first place and since this was the only clue he had, he would exploit it.He pressed his legs harder on the paddle and accelerated the car once again. He followed the directions of his GPS closely. He didn't want to miss anything or get to the wrong address. Jake wasn't so surprised when he started seeing bushes and trees as he drove on. He knew it was a shady place. After all, he didn't recognize it at first and he had been looking at it for
Jake could feel his pulse racing. He had limited time to make a decision and that was when his brain decided to abandon him. For the first time in a long time, no thought flew through his mind. He was lost as to what he should do. "You have five seconds Jake." Ivy reminded him."Okay, Ivy can you please just calm down? We can sort this out." "And this is us sorting it out. Chose!" "If you kill her, you will go to jail. Do you really want to risk that?" "You forget that I am a part of the government. The law doesn't bind to everyone and I can make you do whatever I want. Now, don't make me say it again." "Okay. Fine." Jake looked at Amanda. She was too weak to say anything. She couldn't even look up to them. But Jake could see the tears dropping from her eyes. He knew that she could hear them, she could understand them but she was too weak to fight. There was no way she would get out of there alive if he kept arguing with Ivy and worse if he didn't choose her. She was already on t
He drove with speed to the hospital. He needed to get her checked out as soon as possible, he couldn't have anything bad happening to her. He would be held responsible and he certainly couldn't have such a scandal on his hand. As soon as he got to the hospital, he was happy to see a stretcher being brought toward him. He was too weak and heartbroken, he wouldn't have been able to carry her if it got to that. The nurses helped him lift Amanda unto the stretcher and she was carried into the ER. Jake took a seat in the waiting room and all he could think of was her getting better. Few minutes later, he saw Michael running in. He knew it was just a matter of time before people will start coming to him. He had hoped that their ignorance of where the hospital was would give him more time but he should have known that news spreads like wildfire in his home town."What the hell happened?" Michael asked as soon as he got to Jake. "Who called you?" "Maverick did and he told me that you took
The hospital had a lot of attention that day and it was all because of one person. Amanda Cash. Jake's phone kept blowing up and all he could do was wonder who was calling him by that time. He didn't care to pick up any of their calls or address any of them. He knew what everyone was going to say and he was not in the mood to deal with any of their tantrums or answer any questions. Mostly, Amanda's friends and families were the ones who called him. Everyone he needed to get through this period was sitting next to him. Well, not fully everyone. Sebastian was nowhere in sight but he couldn't blame the guy that much. He did drive out on him."Is Sebastian not coming?" Michael was forced to ask."I have no idea but I hope he does." That was Jake's true feelings. He could see his walls breaking down before his very sight. All that he was planning were slowly coming to the ground. Once Amanda wakes up and everyone knows what truly happened, then he really will be doomed. He couldn't cry and
Jake walked out of Amanda's room to see two men dressed in suits waiting for his arrival. They didn't look friendly but with Sebastian, they sounded extremely friendly. That gave Jake an indication of who they truly were. Still, he walked to them and coughed to interrupt their conversation."Good evening sir," they stopped their conversation with Sebastian and greeted them."What can I do for you gentlemen?" He went straight to.the point."I am detective Conan and this is detective Steve. We are from the state police. I hope you don't mind us asking you a few questions." Jake put on a brave face but his insides were turning with fear. Did they think he had a hand in it? Were they going to take him in? Was everything he worked for about to do down the drain? He gulped and nodded his head."Yes, go ahead." His voice came out as a whisper. Detective Conan took out a notepad and a pen and he started writing on it."How are you related to Mrs Amanda?""I'm her husband.""And how are you re
The hospital walls felt empty as Jake walked back to Amanda's room. He saw no one in sight and listened to none of their talks. All he was focused on was how he will be getting out of the mess he placed himself in. It was just a matter of time before her parents come bursting through the door and heaping curses on his head. He needed to keep his mind straight and think of how he will defend himself when the questions start coming in. His thoughts didn't stop his feet from moving because a few minutes later, he was standing outside of Amanda's ward door. Be opened the door and saw that Amanda's eyes were also opened. She sat still when she saw him come in and a disturbing wind blew in the room. Jake knew that he had a lot to explain to her. He had said things that wouldn't be taken softly if the occasion rises for him to say them in court and from the way things were going, he was going to court to defend himself against Ivy. For now, he had to defend himself in the presence of Amanda
Jake rushed to Amanda's side, his heart pounding inside his chest. The woman couldn't die on him."Amanda?! Amanda?!" When the woman didn't respond to his calls, he dashed out and ran to call the nurse. He was lucky enough to see one in the hallway."Nurse, my wife just slumped! Please come immediately!" He spoke out of breath and then ran back into Amanda's room with the nurse hot on his heels. He stood far from her bedside and couldn't help but chew his nails as he watched the nurse check her vitals. "Is she going to be okay?" Jake asked when he couldn't wait any longer just to get the results. He needed an answer desperately. He needed to know if he killed his wife or not. The guilt would follow him for eternity and he may never recover from it, but still, he needed to know. Jake couldn't remember what had pushed him to say those words. Why did he have to open his big mouth and say that he was in love with someone else, especially when he knew that she wasn't strong? He watched as
