The Return of Amanda

"Hey Jake," the woman spoke softly. Her eyes were puffy and Jake could see that she had been crying. He felt a sword pass through his chest into his heart but he didn't see it bleed.

"Hey Amanda," he responded with confusion. It has been a while since he had set his eyes on her. He honestly thought that she would never come back to him and now there he was, looking at him as if she was the prodigal daughter. Jake wasn't fooled, he knew that something was amiss. He knew that someone had told her something that had triggered her to come to him. He was more than determined to find out what it was.

"Are you just gonna let me stand outside?" Her soft-spoken tone was dropped and the tone that Jake always despised was back. He hated it but wasn't surprised to hear it.

"What a quick change in your voice," Jake said as he walked outside the apartment and closed the door solidly behind him. He noticed how Amanda rolled her eyes and crossed her arms around her chest. "What are you doing here Am
