Amanda was waiting for him when he got back to the hospital. It felt like she had purposely not allowed sleep to wash over her because immediately she saw him her eyes were wide open. Jake couldn't imagine how lucky he was to have her. She was slowly turning into everything he wanted. However, this didn't stop him from being angry at her. She allowed herself to be down and also allowed him to be down as well. If she did not agree to him doing what the Kings wanted, he would not have gone into that court room and said all those things but he was just trying to make his woman happy and do what she wanted. A little voice in his head told him the truth which was that he was laying all the blame on her again and that wasn't supposed to be so. He took wanted to defend his reputation, he also wanted to keep his reputation intact. Amanda just gave him the push he needed to do that but whatever the case, Jake couldn't stop thinking of Amanda was doing this because she wanted him to be rid of
He tried to keep his doubt at the back of his mind as he watched Amanda struggle to stand up and greet him. He could see that she was not in a lot of pain as she was when he left but for some reasons, she was finally it difficult to keep her legs steady and to close them. His attention was moved from her legs to her eyes. There was so much joy in there at the sight of him. He could tell that she didn't believe that he would come back but he was back and he was ready to stand by his side where he ought to be. His eyes took a quick scan around the room and that was when he noticed that the flowers in the room had increased by two. He was able to note this because Amanda didn't have that many friends and as such, many people didn't pay her a visit but for some reasons, her room was suddenly smelling nice with flowers in them. Maybe her parents had come back to their senses and agreed to come to see her properly and they brought the flowers. The next thing he noticed was her silence. She
Before Jake could say another thing, the doctor walked in and he was more than grateful for the distraction. He was sure of comforting her but when it came to him and Amanda, everything always ended differently from how he imagined it. So he was grateful that he didn't even get the opportunity to start what he wanted to. They turned on impulse and saw the doctor standing by the door. He had a smile that discomforted Jake immediately. It felt like the man knew all of his secrets and was just waiting for the right time to finally let the cat out of the bag. He was too busy focusing on the smile the man gave that he failed to recognize the eye movement that transpired between him and his wife. However, he could sense that the air in the room had suddenly changed and it wasn't as peaceful or as disoriented as it was before. Something was wrong, he could feel it but he couldn't point a finger to what exactly was the problem. He watched as the doctor made his way closer to Amanda's bedside
The doctor left before Jake could ask him any other questions. The last thing he said was that Jake should sort out the bill at the counter before he left. As soon as he left, the dark cloud in the room lifted and Amanda's body slowly went back to its normal temperature. Jake was torn between pushing to find out what his wife was hiding and living his normal life, pretending that nothing was wrong. If he went on to find out what his wife was hiding, he risked losing his sanity. Some things were better left unknown to him, so he ignored his instincts and acted like all was well."Babe, what are you thinking about?" He heard Amanda ask him. What was the point of talking to her when all he would get as a response were lies? He looked at her and by God, he wanted to tell her everything. He wanted to ask her everything and tell her about his fears but he knew that he was walking on eggshells with her and it would be a very terrible mistake if he started telling her all that he had to say.
Of course she lied. What else did he expect from her? He couldn't believe anything the woman ever said and he knew that but still, he always gave her the benefit of the doubt and he knew that he was going to do the same thing again. It wouldn't take that long before he would forgive her without her even realizing that he knew she did something terrible. It was the order of the day at all times. He couldn't help but wonder why she would lie though. What did she do that made her lie and how did the doctor get to find out about it? He was curious to have answers to his questions. The problem was how he was going to do it. Jake looked at Sebastian as if the young man would have an answer to the question in his head. He couldn't confide in him though. He was not that stupid. Sebastian already disliked Amanda. If he was to find out about it, he would completely hate her. So he kept his thoughts to himself.Sebastian saw him stealing gazes at him from time to time and wondered what the probl
It didn't take them long to sort out the bill at the counter. The bill wasn't as expensive as Jake had thought that it would be and Amanda was happy that Jake could at least take care of the bills. She had believed that she would have to call her parents to help them. It would have been the biggest embarrassment given to her. She had already told her mom that Jake was a big man who could take care of himself and her without getting anything from them any longer. It would be a slap across the face if she had to put a call through to them to help her with her hospital bills. She sat on one of the waiting chairs comfortably and watched as her husband took care of the bills. She didn't believe that it was possible but she was happy that she would get to enjoy her husband and his money. Finally, she was winning.Jake turned to look at his wife as he waited for the woman behind the counter to sort out the problem she said she was having. He could see the admiration in her eyes. He knew that
Jake didn't take anything that she said to heart and he heard her soft footsteps following him as he walked away. He wasn't going to apologize and neither was she. So they both sat down and watched each other as the car drove them to their apartment. Jake had a lot on his mind and apparently, so did Amanda. None wanted to admit to being wrong and none would allow the choices they made to affect their mood. Jake didn't know when he started acting like them. He didn't know when Amanda's character influenced him and made him act like her but he knew one thing, it had to change. He had to stop being so angry all the time and he wasn't going to achieve that by acting like the one person that pissed him off. He looked at Amanda whose gaze was focused on the numerous buildings that the other side world presented and he wanted to apologize till he saw from the mirror that she was smiling. What could be tickling her fancy? Was she happy that he was angry at her? Could that be the cause of her
The saying no place is like home was so true. Jake let out an air of relief when he got back to his place. He had missed the environment so much and finally, he got to be there and the best part that made a huge smile appear on his face was that he was with his darling wife. They had been through so much together but they were finally together again. Nothing could make him happier. He could see the smile on her face and he knew that she was as happy as she was. Nothing could take their happiness away. He took her hand in his and together they walked into their home. Amanda cared so much for the sophisticated appearance of the house and she never hid it."You know I am so happy that you got this place. It is really beautiful and desirable." She kept saying as the elevator lifted them up to his penthouse. He knew that she loved the place and the more she said it, the more he was sure that she was may not want to get a job because of the place."I hope you will be able to leave this plac
