08 - You're... I know you

"Are you planning to go for a morning run today, Master Leon?"

"No, not now," Leon replied.

Counting the days, it had only been a week since he arrived at this place. Within that short time, he had narrowly escaped an attempt on his life and had just dismissed his teacher.

Leon seldom ventured outside his quarters and spent most of his time in the study or attending classes. The only exception was his morning jog around the mansion's grounds.

"I'll go check on the state of the house," Leon decided.

Randoff nodded. "Very well, sir. I'm sure everyone will be delighted that you've paid them a visit."

With his trademark smile, Randoff stepped back to prepare Leon for the walk, a mole visible on his hand as he opened the door.

Leon couldn't afford to relax, not after what had happened. It was no longer just about his father but about himself. He should have known what to expect dealing with a mafia family. As his mother had warned, life would become more difficult when dealing with malicious people.

But Leon had contradicted his own words because, after all, he had killed a 'human.'

I wonder what will happen when Baron learns that his subordinate is dead, along with his sister Mitty... What is that fox doing now after disrupting my life?

The working servants stared in shock as Leon approached. They paused in their duties, offering greetings as their young master passed.

"Good morning, young master," echoed as Leon walked through.

A child assisting the servants did the same. Leon found the boy intriguing.

"Who is that?"

"Ah, that's Maxi. He's the child of a servant named Salma," Leon turn his gaze to the ribboned servant with a motherly resemblance.

Approaching them, she introduced herself. "Good morning, young master. I'm Salma, and this is Maxi, my son. But I assure you he won't disturb you."

"Hello! Maxi will serve Young Master Leon. Maxi works diligently and is good at cleaning flower vases!"

"Maxi, lower your voice," Salma whispered, disciplining her son.

The child immediately covered his mouth, apologizing to Leon.

"No need to apologize," Leon said.

"Don't work too hard, and let your son play occasionally."

"Maxi doesn't like playing; Maxi likes working!"

"Pssht," Salma hushed him again.

Leon continued his journey, observing the staff working in the house. Randoff suggested something.

"What about visiting the kitchen to see the lunch preparation process, Master Leon?"

Leon's steps halted. Despite sampling various delicious foods prepared by the cooks, he had never seen the people behind the meals.

"We'll go to the kitchen," he decided.

Leon descended to the first floor, traversing the same path as he did to the dining room, exploring various rooms along the way.

Speaking of the library and his room being on the second floor, there were still many rooms he hadn't entered. In terms of the mansion's size, it was indeed enormous.

With his right hand displaying his mole, Randoff opened a double-door with two rectangular glass panes. From there, Leon could see chefs in white attire working in the kitchen.

As the door opened, some chefs noticed Randoff and their new young master. They were quickly greeted with bright smiles.

Hearing the commotion, everyone stopped working, turning their heads to see who had entered. At that moment, all the chefs bowed in salute.

Leon raised his hand. "No need to bow, just carry on with your work. I just want to have a look."

The chefs nodded, returning to their tasks. Leon knew how hectic it could get in the kitchen. Having worked as a waiter and taken orders from the main kitchen, he understood that there was no break for them.

A voice spoke up before Leon fully grasped the situation.

"Young master, do you need anything, or are you hungry right now? If so, please wait a moment; we will prepare a snack for you as soon as possible."

In front of him was a man who bowed quite deeply. Leon could only see the upper part of his head because the rest was covered by a giant hat.

He must be the head chef here.

"Before that, I'll give you a light snack, is that okay?"

"No need."

"Our house prepares very delicious food," he insisted with a forced smile, still bowing.

"Do you want me to prepare a snack, young master?" the head chef asked again.

Unintentionally, Leon nodded.

How did i didnt notice it until now?

Isnt it weird that he always be given a food that he like from the child?

"I apologize for not appearing before you a few years ago. For your safety, some of us came secretly to pay our last respects to Madam," the head chef, or rather, the pastry chef, bowed deeply.

Leon opened his mouth, frozen for a moment before moving his hand.

"So...." Leon looked at the face he remembered from his childhood

"you've been watching me and mom for a long time?"

Itsn't that why they know where i life all the time?

The head chef shook his head quickly, eyebrows drooping sadly.

"No, how could I dare to do that after Madam's decision to leave this place for a peaceful life raising you, Master Leon? Madam only asked for my help to make some nice dessert you can enjoy.  Because everytimes you eat cake, you have a fever."

"Then how did you and my mother—"

"We didn't meet intentionally," the head chef explained.

"All communication with Madam was severed by Mr. Yan. I couldn't reach her at all. Our encounter was purely coincidental."

Taking a deep breath, Leon rubbed his face in frustration.

As a husband to his wife and father to his son, how could the man have had no intention of visiting his ailing wife? The guard interrupted their conversation hastily.

"Master Gera has been here since this morning. He has been sitting quietly and refuses to leave, even though we've asked him. What should we do?"

Leon took a deep breath.

Its really troublesome.

When they went outside,  in front of the front door. Gera was sitting on the floor.

"Master Leon, please forgive me. I beg you, let me stay by your side, Master Leon."
