Chapter 7: Arrival and disappointment

After a journey of one and a half hours, he arrives at home, hoping to find Gianna and his wife.

By now they should have reached home, he plans to inquire about what Sancho needed from her. Sancho is a director in the Deonz company.

Surprise hits him hard when he arrives at the apartment where he stays with Tahlia and her mom, Gianna only to find the main entrance locked, just as they left it.

He realizes at once that there was no one in. When the main entrance which the other doors are assessed from is locked, it's a clear indication that there is no one in.

He picks up his phone to call his wife's line, hoping this time around, she is going to be the one to pick it and not someone else.

He had been happy to finish the meeting with his grandfather on time so as to come back before it was too late and they got to suspect where he went.

Standing outside of the apartment frustrated as the phone continues to ring without anyone picking, he thinks of what to do.

"Should I call Aurelius and tell him this?" He asks himself.

"No, I wouldn't." He says, shaking his head.

He was a grown-up man and should act as one. Telling more about his ordeals rather than looking for ways to solve them would make him look immature.

He tries calling the second time, it rings without anyone picking.

Frustrated, he sits on the pavement in front of the house burying his face in his hands, his bike a few meters away.

Then he feels a light, warm touch on the back of his neck. This wakes him up immediately, he had gone into a trance prior to frustration.

He raises his head to find his good neighbor, MacMillan Jack. He lived about two flats away and had a good attitude towards everyone, rich or poor.

He is in his thirties.

"You are searching for the key to your house? Oh! I can see it's locked." He raises his face away from him to look at the main entrance where the door handle is closed and locked with a metallic color key.

Derek, who doesn't know how to react, nods to his question. He needs to say more, talk of his main wish, who knows where he might get help from.

The idea comes to his mind.

"I intended to come back for my wife and mother-in-law but unfortunately I didn't find them. I left them at the police station where Tahlia was detained."

"Yeah, I heard something like that." Jack affirms. The disturbed Derek, raises his face to stare at him, wondering how he heard it.

Though he wonders, he refuses to ask how.

Jack, from the expression on his face appears to have something else to say.

"Does he have any information, he wouldn't have. No need to expect any news from him," he thinks in his mind, then lets out a sigh.

It's at this point Jack decides to let the truth out. It rings in Derek's mind and he recalls that he and Casemiro, his best friend, were close friends and Casemiro respected Jack more because he was well-to-do.

"I was told that a certain guy…..  a famous staff," he pauses, twitching his face. "I don't know if I should be saying this." Jack sighs.

"No, I'm so eager to hear it. Are you afraid of telling me?"

"Not actually, I'm afraid of how you might react to it. You know Sancho is a wealthy man, he is a director at the company where he works so you can't just stand up and react aggressively with such type of people. They might defeat you even when they are wrong and send you to jail."

He smiles. "If it's that one, leave it to me. I can handle it!"

Jack, who is worried about his safety, continues to feel reluctant about telling him what Casemiro told him fearing he would land himself in trouble.

After much persuasion from Derek, he couldn't help but tell him.

"The director took your wife right away from the station out, on a date. He asked her out in front of both her mom and Casemiro, and she accepted."

Derek was really waiting for this point, to check out if she accepted or not. Then he recalls when she told her mom that she would never divorce him.

All these plays in her mind and he wonders what this means, if she was actually mocking him by this and he knows.

"It didn't stop there, he promised to take her to come live with him at his estate in LenDale Avenue."

Sancho's penthouse was a famous sightseeing spot at LenDale Avenue in California, almost all the workers knew the staffs' house.

Derek grows furious, his eyes changing to pitch black. Jack has never seen him angry like this before, he fears for his safety.

"I wish I never told him!" He says inside him. He knows that if he takes any action and gets hurt in the process, he would be the one to blame.

Casemiro might get into trouble as Sancho gave him an eighteen thousand dollars bribe to keep quiet.

If the case goes beyond, the one who shared the news to Derek would be sought for, and sure the one who said it out first, who is Casemiro.

"I'm storming his house right now, I'll be going there to confront him!" He hastens immediately to his bike and starts it. Jack rushes over to stop him but he already zooms off.

With his bike, he would be reaching Sancho's house in two hours, he doesn't care.
