Chapter 11

CHAPTER 11

Where am I? That was the first thought Philip had when he woke up. From the bumping sensation he kept feeling, he knew that he was in some sort of vehicle. He also remembered some guy coming to ‘save’ them before he lost consciousness, so he was very concerned.

However, he made no effort to open his eyes or stir. Because he could hear two people having a conversation next to him.

“This guy seems pretty strong.” The first one said.

“Even if he’s a special grade, it’s very impressive that he was able to hold down that many infected on his own.” He continued to say.

“That’s right, and with the way he was looking, he barely had any energy left. Boss will be very happy with us when we get back.” The second said with a hint of excitement.

Boss? Special grade? Philip saved these two thoughts in his mind and kept listening.

“By the way, what do you think sir Kaiser is going to do about those two?” The first one asked and Philip restrained opening his eyes. They must be talking about Andrew and Dina.

A hint of relief came through. He was wondering if anything had happened to them, so this piece of news came as a relief to him. However, it didn’t last long.

“Those two humans? Well, knowing sir Kaiser, he’ll probably dispose of them. Boss has no use for normal people after all.” Philip felt a chill go down his spine. He was just about to consider that maybe these guys weren’t actually bad, and then they hit him with this.

“Won’t that bring some problems though? They seemed pretty close with this guy, so I doubt he’d feel inclined to join us if we killed his friends.” Philip fully agreed with the first guy. He had no interest in joining whatever group this was.

“True. But sir Kaiser will most likely do it in such a way that it looks like an accident. Probably feed them to some infected or something. Though I feel like it would have been better if we had killed them back in the mall when he lost consciousness.” The second guy replied.

“Well, sir Kaiser probably has a plan, so there’s no point in us thinking about it. Though. When the heck is this guy going to wake up? He’s been out for 6 hours and we’ll have to make camp soon.” The first guy said with a tone of irritation.

“Think we should slap him awake?” The second guy suggested.

“Nah, as much as it’s annoying. Sir Kaiser will probably be pissed off if his prize suddenly complained to him that he was slapped awake. So I’d rather keep my head on my shoulders.” At this point, the conversation was no longer yielding any used information, so Philip stopped listening and instead began to think.

They’ll be stopping to make camp soon. If those siblings are still alive then I’ll try to escape. Philip thought.

Andrew saw the sun begin to set, and as he thought, the convoy of vehicles slowed to a stop.

“We’ll be making camp here. You two stay here, food will be brought to you shortly.” The guy who had been in the vehicle with them said and was about to leave.

“What about Philip?” Dina suddenly asked and the guy paused for a moment.

“You guys don’t need to know for the moment.” And without another word, the guy left.

“That son of a-“ Before Dina could complete her sentence, Andrew interrupted her.

“I understand you're angry, but if these guys have bad intentions, then pissing them off wouldn’t be in our best interest.” Andrew warned and Dina gave a reluctant nod.

“It’s just frustrating.” Dina muttered and Andrew sighed.

“I understand what you mean, but we’ll just have to persevere. Right now, we need to ascertain the intentions of these guys and see whether or not Philip is in danger. If he is, then we’ll figure out a way to get him and leave.” Andrew said reassuringly.

“And how are we going to find out if they’re bad or not?” Dina asked in a hushed tone. Andrew’s eyes narrowed.

“I have an idea, but not now.” When he said that, he looked forward as their riding buddy had come back with two cans filled with steaming beans.

“Here you go.” Andrew and Dina took the food with a thank you.

When Philip felt the vehicle stop, he groaned and opened his eyes and looked around with worry. He didn’t need to act as he was indeed worried.

“Finally awake I see. Good timing, we were just getting ready to set up camp.” Philip locked eyes with the person who he observed to be the first speaker. A lanky individual with black hair and brown eyes.

“Who are you guys?” Philip asked with narrowed eyes and reached for his weapon which he realized was gone.

“Calm down, we came to save you, remember?” The second guy who was pretty short and had ginger hair said with an amiable smile.

Philip pretended to lower his guard.

“Well, my question still stands, who are you guys?” He asked again.

“We’d love to tell you, but I think you should get something to eat first. You look like you’re about to break apart.” At that juncture, Philip’s stomach growled and the biting hunger he felt before he lost consciousness returned.

“Yeah, okay.” He nodded.

Not long after, Philip was chowing down on large amounts of canned food and dried rations. It wasn’t anything luxurious, but with how hungry he was, it tasted like heaven.

As he ate, Philip couldn’t help but feel amazed by his own metabolism. He could feel the food get digested and nourish his body clearly. In no time, Philip was done eating and most of his strength had returned.

“Okay, now I’m sure you have a lot of questions.” The second amiable looking guy said and Philip nodded.

“Well, concerning your first question, about who we are.” The guy started.

“We are from a faction called the New World.”

In just thirty minutes, a dozen or so tents had been set up and the cars were parked in such a way that they formed a circle around the camp, and some people from the SGO began patrolling the area for infected.

Andrew looked at the guy who had been staying with them and was now sure he was a guard. He’d been keeping an eye on them and constantly looked at their weapons as if he was getting ready to fight. Still though, Andrew put his plan into action when the sun had completely set.

“Hey buddy.” The man clearly didn’t appreciate Andrew calling him buddy by the way his face changed, but he still looked at him.

“Would you mind if I went to answer nature’s call?” Andrew asked and the man’s mouth twitched.

“Can’t you hold it?” He asked, very much irritated.

“For now maybe. But for the whole night? That’s a stretch.” Andrew shrugged and the man glared at him.

“Fine, but be quick.” He said clearly not wanting anything to do with Andrew anymore.

“Appreciate it.” Andrew said and patted his shoulder before leaving. Not before giving Dina a look that said don’t do anything.

He discreetly made sure that no one was following him and went into the darkness in a certain direction. As for where he was going.

Well, not too long ago, he spotted some of the men suddenly going in a certain direction after a soldier had said something. He wanted to see what they were up to, and if they were up to no good.

He made sure to breathe shallowly and walk quietly as he slowly moved in the direction. Soon, he heard the sounds of what appeared to be laughter and, screaming?

He slowed down even more and soon reached a wall which he put his back against. By now, the screams and laughter were loud and clear and a sick feeling appeared in his stomach.

Slowly, he crept to the edge of the wall and took a glance. What he saw made his spine tingle.
