Chapter 6 : Battle

Philip lightly slapped his cheeks.

‘I can do this. I can do this’ Even though the logical part of his brain was screaming at him he couldn't do this, he pushed the doubt in his mind.

‘Worst case scenario, I'll just run away. That thing is big and I don't want to get hit by it, but it probably swings like a crane’ He let his analytical part take over and his fear began to subside.

Thankfully, another thing his ability let him do was think incredibly fast as well, so he could think of a plan without worrying about wasting time.

‘The biggest problem is that I don't have a weapon. Most likely, I'll have to gather up a bunch of speed and run into it. But, can my body handle that’ The thought worried him, but he shook his head.

‘We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Alright, no more sitting around.’ He let out a breath, steeled himself, and walked into the open.

The moment he walked out, the giant infected looked at him with its big angry eyes, and for a moment, Philip felt like a small animal in the face of a lion. He gritted his teeth and pushed the feeling away. Like hell he'd be the prey.

The giant roared and began to run towards Philip, each step sending tremors through the ground.

However, a smile unconsciously appeared on Philip's face. As he thought, it was slow.

When it was right in front of him, it smashed its huge hand down to flatten Philip like a pancake. However, when it was a few feet away, it suddenly slowed to a stop.

Philip easily sidestepped the hand and let his perception go back to normal. The moment he did, the giant's hand hit the floor with such force that it shattered and sent dust and debris flying everywhere.

Philip dodged the fragments and the giant raised its hand expecting to see a pile of much, however, it was just dust.

Confused, it looked around and saw Philip right next to its foot.

"Finally found me, you big oaf.” He taunted.

The giant snarled and raised its large foot. However, Philip simply retreated backwards and the giant stomped where he was with enough force to generate a small shockwave.

‘I'm provoking it, but I still can't find a weak point. It's joints most likely. But I don't have anything sharp to cut through them’ Philip thought with a frown.

By now, the giant noticed that it had missed once more and roared in anger before charging towards Philip.

"Screw it. When all else fails, use brute force." With that thought, Philip leaned forward slightly and pushed with his foot.

He shot towards the giant at insane speeds and stretched his foot out. It hit the giant right in the chest and Philip felt like he had just kicked a brick wall.

He kicked back just ahead of the giant's hand grabbing him and he nearly tripped before backing off.

‘My leg is fine so that means I can handle at least that much force. But did I even do any damage? ‘ His frown grew. However, he noticed that there was a slight depression in the giant's chest where he had hit. So he had done some damage. Good, that meant it wasn't indestructible.

He made the giant charge him before activating his speed once more. He went to its back and spotted its back. Specifically, where its spine was located.

He kicked forward again with his speed and let loose another kick. However, his eyes widened when he actually hit it. Its bones were way tougher than its muscles.

Philip kicked back and felt his ankle ache. That hurt.

The giant roared again and saw a nearby abandoned car. Picked it up, and threw it at Philip.

Philip dodged it with just as much ease, however, dodging wouldn't be enough and he knew that. Then, his mind suddenly went back to something that he saw.

It was an anime. He remembered the character fighting someone who could reflect damage. So to solve the issue, he punched at the guy faster than the damage could be reflected and instead of getting reflected, it stacked and one shouted at the guy.

Yeah, that should work. He Philip and activated his speed once more.

Philip went in and bent under another car that was coming towards him. Then he hopped and landed on the giant's shoulders.

He pulled his arm back and punched. Hardly any damage.

However, he didn't hesitate any more and simply kept on punching without a care. His arms blurred as he rained down an uncountable number of punches on the thing's head.

Initially, he hardly did anything. However, with each passing moment, damage began to show.

First, the skin on its head began to show signs of tearing, tore revealing the skull, and the skull started to crack before shattering inwards.

Philip closed his eyes to avoid seeing the gross brain before punching forward with all his might. He felt his arm sink into the disgusting mush. However, he knew that the creature must have such crazy vitality.

So Philip somehow resisted the urge to throw up and pulled his arm back, and he felt something tear out.

He instantly threw it away and jumped off the creature's shoulders before backing off.

When he let his perception return to normal, the giant paused, swayed, and collapsed with a loud thud.

Philip's knuckles burned from the constant punching, however, he was more concerned with not looking at his right hand. However, even though he didn't look at it, the awful smell made his eyes water.

He looked around and spotted a dirty, ripped-up piece of cloth and violently used it to scrub off the blood and brain matter on his arm.

When he was satisfied, he threw the thing on the floor and shuddered as he thought back to the action he did. Never again.

He then remembered that Andrew and Dina were waiting for him and quickly ran back.

When he returned to the apartment building, he didn't go through the front door and instead performed a very superhuman leap to the second floor.

He went down the stairs and saw Andrew crouched behind a table with his shotgun pointed at the door, and Dina was farther back near the back entrance.

"I'm back." His voice nearly made the two of them jump out of their skins and Andre nearly let out a shot before he realized it was Philip.

"Don't Do That!" He said through gritted teeth and Philip shrugged.

"No promises." Andrew looked like he wanted to walk up to him and bop his head with the butt of his gun. But decided not to.

"Anyway, what happened, he heard the sounds of what we assume to be the creature. Did you kill it?" Andrew asked and Philip nodded.

"Yeah. It was tough." Philip said.

"Oh. Did you destroy its brain?" Dina suddenly asked.

"Uhh, yeah. How did you know?" Philip asked back.

"There's fecal matter on you." Philip froze, then looked down. Indeed, there was more of the gross substance on his body. It must have splashed on him as he was punching the thing's brain. He gagged but forced himself not to vomit.

Luckily, he was wearing a hoodie which he took off and threw to the farthest corner of the room.

Then, his stomach growled.

"Didn't you eat before you ate?" Andrew asked and Philip got the disgusting thought out of his mind.

"My body burns an insane amount of calories whenever I run. A sort of drawback to my speed I guess." He replied before sitting down and digging out more food.

The siblings glanced at each other, then they sat as well. They doubted they'd get any more sleep tonight.
