Philip lightly slapped his cheeks.
‘I can do this. I can do this’ Even though the logical part of his brain was screaming at him he couldn't do this, he pushed the doubt in his mind.‘Worst case scenario, I'll just run away. That thing is big and I don't want to get hit by it, but it probably swings like a crane’ He let his analytical part take over and his fear began to subside.Thankfully, another thing his ability let him do was think incredibly fast as well, so he could think of a plan without worrying about wasting time.‘The biggest problem is that I don't have a weapon. Most likely, I'll have to gather up a bunch of speed and run into it. But, can my body handle that’ The thought worried him, but he shook his head.‘We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Alright, no more sitting around.’ He let out a breath, steeled himself, and walked into the open. The moment he walked out, the giant infected looked at him with its big angry eyes, and for a moment, Philip felt like a small animal in the face of a lion. He gritted his teeth and pushed the feeling away. Like hell he'd be the prey. The giant roared and began to run towards Philip, each step sending tremors through the ground. However, a smile unconsciously appeared on Philip's face. As he thought, it was slow. When it was right in front of him, it smashed its huge hand down to flatten Philip like a pancake. However, when it was a few feet away, it suddenly slowed to a stop.Philip easily sidestepped the hand and let his perception go back to normal. The moment he did, the giant's hand hit the floor with such force that it shattered and sent dust and debris flying everywhere.Philip dodged the fragments and the giant raised its hand expecting to see a pile of much, however, it was just dust.Confused, it looked around and saw Philip right next to its foot."Finally found me, you big oaf.” He taunted. The giant snarled and raised its large foot. However, Philip simply retreated backwards and the giant stomped where he was with enough force to generate a small shockwave.‘I'm provoking it, but I still can't find a weak point. It's joints most likely. But I don't have anything sharp to cut through them’ Philip thought with a frown.By now, the giant noticed that it had missed once more and roared in anger before charging towards Philip."Screw it. When all else fails, use brute force." With that thought, Philip leaned forward slightly and pushed with his foot.He shot towards the giant at insane speeds and stretched his foot out. It hit the giant right in the chest and Philip felt like he had just kicked a brick wall.He kicked back just ahead of the giant's hand grabbing him and he nearly tripped before backing off.‘My leg is fine so that means I can handle at least that much force. But did I even do any damage? ‘ His frown grew. However, he noticed that there was a slight depression in the giant's chest where he had hit. So he had done some damage. Good, that meant it wasn't indestructible. He made the giant charge him before activating his speed once more. He went to its back and spotted its back. Specifically, where its spine was located. He kicked forward again with his speed and let loose another kick. However, his eyes widened when he actually hit it. Its bones were way tougher than its muscles.Philip kicked back and felt his ankle ache. That hurt. The giant roared again and saw a nearby abandoned car. Picked it up, and threw it at Philip.Philip dodged it with just as much ease, however, dodging wouldn't be enough and he knew that. Then, his mind suddenly went back to something that he saw.It was an anime. He remembered the character fighting someone who could reflect damage. So to solve the issue, he punched at the guy faster than the damage could be reflected and instead of getting reflected, it stacked and one shouted at the guy.Yeah, that should work. He Philip and activated his speed once more.Philip went in and bent under another car that was coming towards him. Then he hopped and landed on the giant's shoulders. He pulled his arm back and punched. Hardly any damage. However, he didn't hesitate any more and simply kept on punching without a care. His arms blurred as he rained down an uncountable number of punches on the thing's head.Initially, he hardly did anything. However, with each passing moment, damage began to show.First, the skin on its head began to show signs of tearing, tore revealing the skull, and the skull started to crack before shattering inwards.Philip closed his eyes to avoid seeing the gross brain before punching forward with all his might. He felt his arm sink into the disgusting mush. However, he knew that the creature must have such crazy vitality. So Philip somehow resisted the urge to throw up and pulled his arm back, and he felt something tear out.He instantly threw it away and jumped off the creature's shoulders before backing off. When he let his perception return to normal, the giant paused, swayed, and collapsed with a loud thud.Philip's knuckles burned from the constant punching, however, he was more concerned with not looking at his right hand. However, even though he didn't look at it, the awful smell made his eyes water. He looked around and spotted a dirty, ripped-up piece of cloth and violently used it to scrub off the blood and brain matter on his arm. When he was satisfied, he threw the thing on the floor and shuddered as he thought back to the action he did. Never again. He then remembered that Andrew and Dina were waiting for him and quickly ran back. When he returned to the apartment building, he didn't go through the front door and instead performed a very superhuman leap to the second floor. He went down the stairs and saw Andrew crouched behind a table with his shotgun pointed at the door, and Dina was farther back near the back entrance."I'm back." His voice nearly made the two of them jump out of their skins and Andre nearly let out a shot before he realized it was Philip."Don't Do That!" He said through gritted teeth and Philip shrugged."No promises." Andrew looked like he wanted to walk up to him and bop his head with the butt of his gun. But decided not to."Anyway, what happened, he heard the sounds of what we assume to be the creature. Did you kill it?" Andrew asked and Philip nodded."Yeah. It was tough." Philip said."Oh. Did you destroy its brain?" Dina suddenly asked."Uhh, yeah. How did you know?" Philip asked back."There's fecal matter on you." Philip froze, then looked down. Indeed, there was more of the gross substance on his body. It must have splashed on him as he was punching the thing's brain. He gagged but forced himself not to vomit.Luckily, he was wearing a hoodie which he took off and threw to the farthest corner of the room. Then, his stomach growled."Didn't you eat before you ate?" Andrew asked and Philip got the disgusting thought out of his mind."My body burns an insane amount of calories whenever I run. A sort of drawback to my speed I guess." He replied before sitting down and digging out more food. The siblings glanced at each other, then they sat as well. They doubted they'd get any more sleep tonight. The rest of the night went by without incident, so the group set out early in the morning."We'll forget about heading to the base today, we need to spend the day finding food." Andrew suddenly said."Why?" Dina asked and Andrew pointed at Philip."His speed is our biggest advantage right now, and we need him to be at peak strength if we want to maintain that advantage. To do that, we need to get him food." Philip's eyes widened when he heard this."You're holding yourself aren't you? You probably expended a lot of energy fighting the infected from last night, and I doubt those canned meals were enough to sate you. Am I wrong?" Andrew said and Philip pursed his lips.Andrew was spot on. Right now, he was actually super hungry and the canned food he'd eaten the night before was barely enough to keep him on his feet."Yeah, you're right." Philip conceded and Andrew nodded. He gestured them over to a car and dug out a mp from his backpack before laying it out."The closest mall is about
The food court was very much scattered. Chairs were broken, tables overturned, and an unsettling amount of dried blood. The group quickly went over and got to the counter.Andrew told Philip and Dina to stay before jumping over the counter and moving out of sight into the kitchen, towards the Fridge Philip assumed. He and Dina ducked and waited. It was at this time Philip finally got a good look at the mostly silent girl. She was very good looking. She had a slight tan, constantly running from monsters in the sun did that to you. She had large green eyes and long blonde hair, like her brother, though his was obviously short. Her body was also proportioned very nicely. Philip judged that if she was a teacher as she said then she was probably very popular among the male students. It was then that she turned to look at him and they both stared at each other. Philip caught the same look of wariness which Andrew usually looked at him with.He smiled at her and she looked away. Philip shook
“BELOW YOU!” Were the last words Andrew heard Phillip scream before he got stabbed through his chest. His eyes widened in shock as he saw the blood drip through Phillips's shirt. Quickly he retreated and continued to avoid their attacks but he knew Phillip was spent.*SHRIEK* Quickly, he was brought back to his senses by the scream of the spider-like infected that Phillip had tried to warn them about. He quickly reached for the machete that he had carried earlier and swung it into the neck of the grotesque-looking monster. The sound of metal hitting bone cut through the commotion that was going on all around them. Disgusting blood and liquids splashed all over him.But still, it wasn’t enough damage as the monster was still squirming and flailing its numerous hands everywhere. “Dina, stab it!” Andrew yelled.Dina hesitated for a moment but soon enough she brought out her dagger and with anxiety, stabbed the creature under its head, right through the jugular.More blood poured out an
Andrew and Dina carefully moved Phillip to a bench that was still intact in the hall of the mall. Dina went and came back with some water in a bowl from a nearby fountain and tore a piece of her flannel shirt to use as a rag.She carefully wiped the blood and fluids that he had racked up on his body after his bout with the infected. And for a split second, she caught herself looking closer at the features of Phillips's face. His facial structure was well-defined, his silver hair made him seem like a character out of a fantasy novel. Well, he had randomly appeared and saved her and her brother when they were in danger, sort of like a prince. Those feelings, however, were unwarranted considering the current situation. The world was falling apart, and they didn’t even know if they would survive till next week. This infatuation with Phillip had to be limited, for everybody’s good. When she had cleaned him up to a decent extent she tilted his head up and gave him some water before gently p
CHAPTER 11Where am I? That was the first thought Philip had when he woke up. From the bumping sensation he kept feeling, he knew that he was in some sort of vehicle. He also remembered some guy coming to ‘save’ them before he lost consciousness, so he was very concerned. However, he made no effort to open his eyes or stir. Because he could hear two people having a conversation next to him.“This guy seems pretty strong.” The first one said.“Even if he’s a special grade, it’s very impressive that he was able to hold down that many infected on his own.” He continued to say.“That’s right, and with the way he was looking, he barely had any energy left. Boss will be very happy with us when we get back.” The second said with a hint of excitement.Boss? Special grade? Philip saved these two thoughts in his mind and kept listening.“By the way, what do you think sir Kaiser is going to do about those two?” The first one asked and Philip restrained opening his eyes. They must be talking abou
Chapter 12A group of the SGO guys were laughing like maniacs, they had surrounded a bunch of people in ragged clothing, survivors, were screaming. As for why they were screaming, well, one of the SGO guys was using a knife to slowly carve off flesh from one of the survivors who was wailing like a pig about to be slaughtered. At that juncture, one of the survivors tried to run, however, an SGO suddenly stepped in front of him and held him by the neck. And before the poor guy could struggle, his neck was snapped.Andrew slowly retreated and took a deep, but silent breath to calm himself down. He couldn’t let his emotions get the best of him, especially now. With resolve in his eyes, he marched back to the camp.Philip took a moment to digest the information that was given to him. From what the guy said, there was a faction called the New World, and it was filled with people like him, called ‘Special Grade Infected’. Individuals who the G-virus and their genetic makeup managed to perfec
Phillip and the siblings ran for a few miles into the forest surrounding the city. Hopefully, they could lose the pursuing guards that way. They were running deeper into the forest now, but the footsteps coming after them just wouldn’t seem to stop.Dina was already getting tired, her breathing became more intense with every few steps they took. “These guys don’t seem like the type to forgive and forget.” Phillip said, trying to add some humor to the situation. But from the tired looks he got from Dina and Andrew, it did the opposite of its intended purpose.“Hey, can’t you just do what you did before? Like carry us and run really far?” Andrew asked him In between breaths.“Well, it’s not impossible. But the last time I did that I used about half my energy. I don’t think I’m good enough to travel that fast with people yet.” Phillip said while dodging a fallen tree.“If I was to do it again I would probably lose consciousness, and I don’t think it’s worth the risk. I might pass out an
Andrew and Dina had gotten a decent distance away from the confrontation between Phillip and the guards. All he could do was have faith that Phillip would get out of there unscathed. To that end, he put his focus on Dina.He sat her down and helped her rest her back on a fallen log nearby. He put his hand on her forehead and she was burning up. She had a fever. There was no worse time for something like this to happen. However, he couldn’t blame her. They weren’t getting enough sleep, rest or food. Always running and fighting. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. He went over to check the duffel bag that Phillip had taken from the camp when they were escaping. “Please let something be in here.” He muttered to himself as he rummaged through the bag.Eventually, he picked up a white bottle containing something he couldn’t properly see. Suddenly he saw a burst of fire come from where they left Phillip. He was startled but quickly looked back at the bottle.Th
