Chapter 12 : The Grind

one day has passed.

After seeing the fight in the arena yesterday, Spike thoughtfully about how he could survive in this place with only his Iron Fist. All day he thought about all the tactics for fighting.

The thing was, Spike had yet to learn who the real Vahn was. He didn't know what strength that person had. He couldn't predict and prepare for his fight with that person later.

Previously, Spike had asked Silver. And just as it seems, Silver is just as clueless as Spike.

Something was off about Vahn. He had never seen the man before in this prison. He came as if he had come especially today to greet him in the battle arena.

Hmm... Why am I thinking too hard? I can always win whatever battle I face with ease...

Spike sat silently in his own cell. Time has yet to show for a break. In his indecision, he was really bored in his solitude.

A few hours later, Spike who accidentally fell asleep wakes up hearing sirens in his own cell.

The flickering and illuminating light in his room distracted his vision even though he had closed his eyes just now.

Spike quickly got up and headed to the screen where his cell was. He wanted to find out what was going on here.

"Hey! What's going on here? Can you stop the noise!”

[ A grind will start soon. Prisoners #404, are you willing to take the event? ]

"Grinds?" Spike muttered to himself. I don't understand the meaning of those words.

Besides the writing, there is an indistinct sketch of a figure that does not deserve to be called a human.

His face was dented by having light wings like an insect. Above his head, there is a large antenna that has a function for who knows what.

"What does this mean? What is The Grind?” Spike asked the screen.

Spike's question went unanswered. The screen changed to a countdown timer now. With the two options listed that he can choose.

[ Yes ] or [ No.]

Feeling tired of waiting too long in this cell, Spike chose the “Yes” option.

He hoped that something interesting would happen to him after this.

Seconds later, the cell Spike is in now suddenly moves. Much like when he first woke up in this place. It's just that Spike doesn't know where this cell will take him.

His previous Iron Fist suddenly lit up now. Steam as well as the sound of loud serrations brush against each other. That arm, Spike would probably use it now.

[Prisoners #404. Welcome to the Grind. The monster that you will fight today was Goowasp ]

The hologram screen was back up right in front of Spike's eyes now. Just like when he saw information about himself.

There, he could see the sketch image of the monster that was on the screen earlier. It's just that, it has better detail and image quality than before.

[ Name : Goowasp ]

[ Type : Flying Monster ]

[ Reward : 1500-3000 Credit Points, Unspecified ]

[ Strength : Unknown ]

[ Weakness : Unknown ]

As he read through all the information, Spike felt that it was pointless for him to know. Because very little information he got from there.

The information regarding the reward for the monsters was completely useless to know. The maximum he could earn was only 3000 Credit Points, and that wasn't enough to make him buy a new skill.

“Can't this elevator go any faster? I want to hit all those monsters right now!”

The gate finally opened. However, not in the Arena that he had always known.

As Spike exits, he arrives at a large, dimly lit area. All around there is only a concrete wall that closes with no way out.

The most significant is that there is no place for the audience to see the fight. Because there are no gaps at all.

If indeed Spike dies in this arena, maybe the other prisoners won't know about it.

What kind of arena is this? How many different Arenas does this dungeon have?

“Hello, welcome Spike. Sorry, I believe that this arena is slightly different from the Arena you fought before. Because indeed, this Arena has a special design and function...” Spike recognized that voice. Even though it's been altered and shuffled now, it's Hudson's voice.

“You again, you bastard!” Spike swears at Hudson.

“Ahahahaha... I haven't finished talking yet. I am very happy when you greet me with your curse. Because if you don't, then there's something wrong with you. Anyway, I just want to say that this arena is specially made for fighting monsters.”

“Monsters? What kind of monster are you referring to? Send me tens, hundreds, or thousands of monsters of yours and I will be able to fight them!”

“I'm sure you've read the information about the monsters you'll be fighting while you're on your way to this Arena. Sorry, I didn't mean to hide the monster's strengths and weaknesses for you to cause you such a hard time. Actually, I don't know how strong that monster is. And that is why I created this Arena, to test the suitability of the monsters I created…”

Spike was really pissed to hear that from Hudson's muzzle. He was in this place as if it was just an experiment or experiment for himself.

“You insolent! You think you can treat me as you please!”

“Whatever you want to say now, you are trapped in this prison. Whatever my rules, you must obey if you still want to live…”

The gate behind Spike was starting to close, the lights were also starting to turn on as bright as they could. A sign that the fight is about to start.

“One thing I ask of you, I want you to explore all your strengths properly. This isolated place is the perfect place to discover your fullest potential without fear of being found out by other prisoners. Also, don't be so easy to lose… understand?”

“How dare you underestimate my power! Hurry and show your face to me now, because I'm about to crush it for you…”

Hudson's voice had disappeared. From above the room, appeared a gate that opened by itself.

A winged monster with a caterpillar-like physique had appeared face-to-face with Spike now

“Goo…” whispered the monster. In a soft tone.

For some reason, Spike felt disgusted when he saw that monster…
