The voice of his new assistant rang in his head.

'Could you at least lower it down next time? It's like you're screaming directly at my brain.'

{That's basically what I do each time I communicate with you.}

'Ugh!' Yen rubbed his temples in frustration.

He wasn't used to the system yet and he could tell, it would be a tough road.

He couldn't abandon it because…

'How about I just put you to sleep for the rest of my life?' Yen thought to himself but the system could read his very thoughts so it responded.

{You put me to sleep and the rest of your life would only last five seconds before you fall asleep 'for the rest of your life'. That is not a threat, it's a warning. The moment I shut down, you'll go down as well.}

'I don't believe you!' Yen disagreed with the system's words.

{Then go ahead and try it. The command phrase is 'System Shut Down'. Let's both be witnesses to what happens next.}

'If that's true, then I'll need the phrase to wake you up as well.'

Although it had stayed with him for over half a day—the length of his current life—and had shown him amazing things, one thing he was certain about was that the system wouldn't lie.

{What do you need the other phrase for? The moment you initiate the sleeping sequence, you're prepared to die. Isn't that what it is supposed to mean?}

"Let's just forget about it then. I can't risk it." Yen spoke out for the first time.

The mission was over and Yen had received his rewards even though he didn't know what it all amounted to.

'Let me have them. The rewards…'

The system interrupted, knowing Yen's line of thought.

{You have received 120 SC and 6 Qi Gathering Pills after completing the mission by stopping 6 crimes from happening.

For performing well on your first mission, you have received another 50SC and 2 Qi Gathering Pills.

Honestly, I'm impressed. Didn't think my owner could perform this well for his first mission.}

'What was that?' Yen squinted his eyes. He was happy with the rewards but the mocking tone of the system left a bad aftertaste.

"How effective are these pills?" Yen was curious to know. Just in one night, he had been given eight of them. From the name of the pill, he knew its purpose and so, he knew pills that had similar effects. These were considered expensive to new cultivators. To an aspiring cultivator that was wealthy, they could acquire these pills without bothering about price and quantity.

Knowing what Yen meant when he asked his question, the system gave him a befitting answer.

{They're low-grade pills. That's why you've got this much from such a low-level mission.}

Pills existed with five grade qualities, each having a better effectiveness than the previous. The lowest of them all with a very low level of effectiveness.

 

'I knew I smelled bull**it!' Hearing the quality of the pills, Yen wanted to curse at the system but he held himself back.

{Even though they're low-grade pills, with the right amount, they'll help you form your dantian.}

The system replied trying to motivate its user.

"System?"

{Yes?}

'How am I supposed to get over 300 of these to form a dantian? I'll have to spend tens of days doing night guard jobs to get that.'

{Or you could buy more from the system's market section. 

Besides, there are many more missions to come, each with varying rewards.} The system replied with an answer that calmed Yen's nerves completely.

'Oh, I understand now.'

'Like I said, calling you System or Supreme System, your original name sounds boring. I finally thought of a name. You'll like it.'

Yen had previously told the system that he would give it a new name and he had come up with one for it.

{What might that be?} The system asked, its voice tainted with curiosity even though it tried to hide it.

"From today henceforth, you'll be called 'Stem'."

{...}

'You know, like a branch being part of a larger tree, you're a part of something much bigger. Besides, you've got a leading position. Leading a past Sovereign of Existence, you should be honored.'

{...}

'Hey, say something!'

{System Update Completed!

Current Name: Stem}

The autonomous voice of the system was heard once more.

"Ahh while I was busy explaining while I chose the name, you went ahead to get an update." Yen grumbled in secondhand embarrassment.

{I heard everything you said. I'm grateful for the name.} The system replied with its feminine voice, sounding more polite than it normally would.

'Hmmm?' Yen let the thoughts forming in his head die down before they were read by a certain system that didn't seem to know the meaning of privacy.

'I have a question. Who issues the missions and rewards? The Supreme One?' Yen asked intending to get to know how it all worked. Was it the Supreme One's doing?

If the Supreme One did have that much time on his hands to watch over one soul, why not spend that time cleaning the mess he made?

{I am the one in charge of such actions. I decide the missions as well as suitable rewards that benefit you. I am not autonomous for no reason. As I said, the Supreme One made me to aid you in any and every way possible and I'm doing just that.

If you get that already, now get up while I prepare the next mission.

Oh, and correction, you won't be needing 300 of these pills. You'll need a thousand of them and getting those will be arduous.}

"What did you say?"

Without getting a reply, another set of words was heard in Yen's head.

Mission: Make Money I

Difficulty: Very Low

Description: You've arrived on Earth. Prove that you can adapt to any civilization you find yourself in. Before the end of three days, find any means to make money and get paid with the currency used on Earth.

Success: 30SC for every 1,000 units of the currency made at the end of the duration provided.

Failure: Loss of 100SC.}

Yen listened to the new mission play in his head and at the end of it all, his face was twisted like a child wanting to complain but had no one to complain to. "Now, I have to make money to get money?"

"You're out to get me, right?" Yen queried the system.

{Not at all. You're free to make money through any means. Selling properties, robbing people, helping others, offering security, and many more.}

The system listed ways to get paid to him but only one got to Yen's brain.

'Selling of Properties.' He recalled that Earth also had cultivators albeit of a smaller population compared to many other worlds.

'What if I sold the Qi Gathering Pills to them at a higher price than what the system is offering for the price?' Yen smiled at the thought of that.

'First, I'll need to know the conversion rate of their currency to the system's.'

Yen chuckled as he spoke to the system. "How do I receive the pills I was rewarded with?"
