Chapter 5: Yeah, we’re delivering you to our boss.

Jonas’s world seemed to collapse, his heart tightened, and he stumbled into the house with an unsteady step.

As he entered the house, he immediately smelled the pungent scent of blood. However, this odor was not Selene’s; it was a mixture of blood and the scent of a man.

But there was no sign of Selene in the house.

The crying continued relentlessly. It was the cry of a middle-aged woman and a girl who seemed younger than Selene. At this moment, the people inside the house seemed to realize Jonas’s presence and turned to look at him.

The middle-aged woman stopped her sobbing, suppressing her choked sobs. Jonas could sense their gazes on him and wondered what they thought of him.

“Who are you? Who are you looking for here?” The middle-aged woman asked.

“I... I’m here to find Selene...”

Jonas barely finished his sentence when the woman started crying even louder. The man lying on the bed struggled to sit up, his voice hoarse as he cried and said, “Selene, my poor daughter...”

Seeing the scene before him, Jonas could somewhat guess that something terrible had happened, and Selene... she had indeed encountered trouble.

Jonas couldn’t remain calm any longer. He bombarded them with questions, his hands trembling, and his voice chilling.

“Selene, Selene, what happened to her? What happened?”

Facing Jonas’s intense reaction, the middle-aged woman, presumably Selene’s mother, looked helpless.

“I think you should leave. A blind person like you shouldn’t get involved in this. The consequences will be terrible. Our daughter was kidnapped by a gang of thugs, and my husband got injured trying to save her. I think you should leave quickly. Don’t complicate things for yourself. I’m sure our daughter wouldn’t want anyone else to be concerned about her right now.”

The news hit Jonas like a thunderbolt. In his mind, he immediately pictured the three thugs he had encountered before. They must be the culprits.

Jonas couldn’t help but blame himself. He should have been more cautious. He knew there was danger around Splendide town, and he could have guessed that Selene might become a target for those thugs, but he failed to protect her. This time, if something happened to her, it would be his fault.

Jonas took some money from his pocket and handed it to the woman.

“Normally, Selene has helped me a lot. She’s the one who brought me back from the abyss into the radiant sunlight. I have little here, but please take it and use it for your husband’s medical treatment. I believe there’s someone who can heal him.”

The woman was taken aback and somewhat alarmed. In her eyes, Jonas was just a poor person without money, and she couldn’t accept his money.

“I can’t take your money. I appreciate your kindness, but money... I can’t. Please keep it.”

But Jonas quickly withdrew his hand.

“Please, take it. If you don’t, I’ll feel guilty for the rest of my life.”

After saying that, he turned and left, despite the woman’s attempt to return the money.

Indeed, the woman still hesitated and wanted to chase after Jonas. However, when she stepped out of the door, he had already disappeared without a trace. The woman was left in bewilderment.

Jonas had already gone far, and his astonishing speed left people in awe. He walked straight back into the village of Éternel and headed toward Splendide town.

His eyes burned with determination, cold and impassive. He regretted not finishing those three thugs the previous day. If he had, Selene might not have faced this predicament today.

Now he needed to find them and rescue Selene. He wouldn’t let them off the hook this time.

Splendide Town,

Although Jonas had the intention of staying low, he still gathered information both inside and outside the town. This allowed him to maintain control over the situation and ensure his safety to continue existing in this world.

He knew the place where the gang usually gathered. Jonas learned this from the town leaders who knew but didn't do anything because they accepted money and were afraid of getting involved.

That place was called the Rêveries Casino.

Rêveries Casino was located deep in an alley in Splendide town, a secluded and mysterious place with few visitors.

Jonas entered the casino. At the entrance, two burly, heavily tattooed men guarded, and naturally, they didn’t let Jonas in.

“What’s a blind man like you doing here? Get lost before we give you a beating,” one of them sneered, looking down on Jonas. In their eyes, he was just a poor beggar with no money, someone who had no good reason to benefit them.

Jonas could have easily incapacitated these two men, but at the moment, he didn’t want to create a commotion. So, he took out a few gold coins from his pocket and placed them in front of the door guards.

When they saw the money, their attitudes immediately changed. Instead of being hostile, they became friendly.

“Ah, this rich guy knows how to enjoy himself. Welcome, welcome. I hope you’ll have a fun time here.”

Jonas said nothing, maintaining a live-and-let-live attitude. He pushed the coins forward and walked past the guards.

Once inside, there was a massive iron door that separated the world outside from the chaos within the casino. The door served both to soundproof the establishment and for security reasons. As a result, stepping inside felt like entering a riot.

A cacophony of voices, shouts, and curses filled the air. A jumble of mixed scents from the various bodies assaulted Jonas’s senses, but he could discern the odor of those three men.

Jonas furrowed his brow, following the scent to the area where the trio was gambling. Amid the chaos, no one paid attention to Jonas’s arrival.

What he needed to do now was to lure those three men outside.

He stood among the crowd and retrieved a few small marbles from his pocket. Although he couldn’t see, he accurately pinpointed the locations of the three men. Then he shot a marble, hitting one of the three thugs squarely in the head.

The force Jonas used wasn’t significant, just enough to make them uncomfortable. He didn’t intend to start trouble here.

The one hit by Jonas’s marble was the leader of the three. He immediately went berserk, turning around and cursing loudly.

“Damn it! Who the hell threw a stone at my head? Don’t let me catch you, or I’ll make you pay!”

But Jonas had not revealed himself. Then he shot two more marbles, hitting the remaining two thugs.

Now, Jonas officially revealed himself, standing in the crowd but prominent enough for the three men to recognize him.

Indeed, they had seen him. In their eyes, there was a burning rage, a deep-seated anger. They confronted the leader, and then all of them pointed toward Jonas.

“Boss, it’s him, that blind guy who’s messing with us.”

The leader finally noticed Jonas, acting all smug, showing disdain in his gestures but with a deadly glint in his eyes.

“So, it’s the blind one. We hadn’t planned on dealing with him yet, but it seems he’s seeking his own death. Very arrogant. Let’s go, make some money out of this, and our boss will be quite pleased with us.”

“Right.”

The two henchmen eagerly responded, their eyes filled with the satisfaction of an impending victory and bloodlust. Even though they hadn’t fought yet, they already felt that they had the upper hand.

They advanced toward Jonas.

By this time, Jonas had sensed the three men had moved closer. He remained calm, casually dropping a gold coin onto the ground, then called out,

“Someone dropped their money!”

Hearing this, the nearby gamblers immediately rushed towards the coin, creating a chaotic scene. Jonas smirked slyly, then turned and walked out.

The two guards at the door saw Jonas leaving so quickly and remarked,

“Oh, so he’s done already, not even half an hour.”

“Must have run out of money. Well, enjoying the taste of the rich for a while.”

Jonas paid no attention to their banter, proceeding further into the alley.

His pace was steady, and from the darkness, he seemed to wait for the three men to chase after him. He timed it perfectly. As they burst out of the casino, he turned into another alley.

After walking a distance, he knew that ahead was a dead end, so he stopped.

By now, the three thugs had caught up to him.

“Hey, blind guy, where do you think you’re going? Last time, we let you off, but not this time!”

Jonas estimated they were about two meters away and turned around.

They grinned maliciously, their expressions filled with contempt.

“That’s right,” Jonas replied coldly.

“Yeah, we’re delivering you to our boss. We’ll make a profit, just like that stupid girl protected you last time.”

One henchman, who seemed to have a lower IQ, proudly blurted out and chuckled. It wasn’t until the leader used his elbow to jab him forcefully that he realized his mistake.
