Chapter 3

The average salary in the city of Aranca was only $1,500 per month, at most. Yet Maverick seemed unfazed by this when he entered a cell phone store.

Several people around him were surprised by his action of intending to buy the latest model phone for $1,500.

Other customers were dumbfounded when they imagined themselves spending a whole month's salary just to purchase that phone.

"Sir, the price of this phone is $1,500 each, if you buy 7 units, the total becomes $10,500. Are you sure?" asked the still skeptical waitress.

Maverick looked at the waitress firmly, "I know that just wrap it up!" he said without hesitation.

"Hmph! Arrogant bumpkin! He must have robbed someone on the street!" Muttered the first waitress to her colleague, but Maverick just ignored her comment.

The second waitress promptly took the seven phones while Maverick waited leisurely. After all the phones were wrapped in one bag, Maverick transferred $10,500 via P****l.

The first waitress' face suddenly went astonished as he realized that Maverick was indeed capable of buying seven luxury phones at once without even batting an eye.

The second waitress who served Maverick smiled brightly, she was doubtful for once, now happy to receive a sales bonus from the phones she sold to Maverick.

The System's voice echoed in Maverick's mind.

[Congratulations, you have spent $10,500. A 200% cashback of $21,000 has been sent to your account.]

Maverick smiled, opening the message on his phone,

"Bank account xxxxxxxxxx99 transfer $21,000. Balance $21,100."

"Thank you very much, sir, please come again!" Said the friendly waitress as Maverick left the store.

Meanwhile, the first waitress felt regretful, unaware that Maverick was a wealthy customer.

After shopping, Maverick carried all his belongings to the dormitory. He stepping up the staircases with enthusiasm, he couldn't wait to share the surprise with his friends. However, upon arriving at the dormitory, Maverick's friends looked puzzled seeing the branded shopping bags he carried.

"These are for you guys," Maverick said with a broad smile. He then gave the phones and clothes he brought to his roommates.

Jason looked surprised, his eyes widened. "Oh my god, Maverick, did you just rob a store?!" He exclaimed.

Adrian chimed in with admiration, "Wow, these clothes are from Star Mall, right?" He touched the fabric of the clothes with his hand, feeling the softness and expensiveness of the material. He rummaged through Maverick's shopping bags, amazed by what he saw.

Giuly, not wanting to be left behind, grabbed the clothes and then looked at Maverick with a curious expression. "Where did you get the money, Maverick?" Giuly asked with a doubtful tone.

The three of them knew that Maverick's finances shouldn't be better than theirs. Especially when Maverick pursued Tania, he spent his money on her almost every day.

Maverick didn't answer their questions. Instead, he offered the items to the three of them with a wide smile. "It doesn't matter where I got the money from. What matters is you can choose which clothes you want!" he said enthusiastically.

Giuly, who had the lowest finances among the four of them, felt excited after hearing Maverick's words. "Really? Can I choose this?" he asked while looking at the items.

"Of course! Take whatever you like, and tonight you all will join me at Diamond Restaurant, we're going to party tonight!" Maverick said excitedly.

"Diamond Restaurant? You mean that four Michelin stars Restaurant?" Jason halted Maverick’s mouth, "Maverick, are you dreaming? If we eat there, we'll have to spend at least $5,000 per table. And that's for the cheapest food there!"

Jason, coming from a middle-class family, certainly knew a bit about the prices at Diamond Restaurant. His eyes widened in shock, not believing Maverick's plan.

Jason was often invited by his parents to attend events with important people to broaden his network. These events were usually held at luxury restaurants. That's why he knew the prices of food there.

Upon hearing that, Maverick waved his hand confidently, "Don't worry, my money is more than enough to treat you all!"

Jason, Adrian, and Giuly looked at each other. Adrian then hugged Maverick's neck, "Hey buddy, you're not fooling us, right? Come on, explain where you got that much money from!"

Maverick looked puzzled, searching for the right answer. He couldn't possibly tell them about the system that helped him get money.

After thinking for a moment, he expressed his reason, "It just happened to be my lucky day today. I tried my luck with the lottery, and I won!" he said with a forced smile. In his heart, he hoped his friends would believe that reason.

"Oh my god, Maverick! Alright, let's have dinner at Diamond Restaurant," Adrian exclaimed excitedly upon hearing that Maverick won the lottery. Unnoticed, Maverick dropped one of the latest model phones he had just bought on the floor when Adrian shook his body.

Jason, who was familiar with the phone, immediately approached and picked it up. Making sure, Jason's eyes widened, "Is this, Maverick, yours?" he asked with a trembling voice.

Maverick nodded, "Yes, it's mine. I just bought it this afternoon," he answered casually. "If you guys want it, here, take it." Maverick threw three phones to his three friends. They were stunned. "Oh my god, Maverick... how much did you win in the lottery?" Jason asked, holding the phone with trembling hands.

Giuly, who had been silent since earlier, finally scolded Jason while choosing clothes in front of him. "Come on Jason, don't invade other people's privacy." Giuly's face looked displeased.

Jason ignored the reprimand, his eyes still fixed on the new phone Maverick bought. He exclaimed, "You don't know?! Utter fool! This is the latest model phone. It costs $1,500!"

"What!" Adrian and Giuly widened their jaws in disbelief upon hearing the price of the phone.

Jason sighed, ignoring the two of them and asking again. "Maverick, how much did you win in the lottery?"

Maverick, feeling cornered by Jason's persistent questioning, then raised five of his fingers, hoping it was enough to cover his friends' curiosity.

Jason tried to confirm, "5,000 dollars?" Maverick shook his head. "50,000 dollars?" Maverick shook his head again.

Adrian, who was shocked, interjected, "500,000 dollars?!"

Maverick finally nodded, reluctantly lying. In his bank account, there were only twenty-one thousand dollars left, but he tried hard to convince them that he won five hundred thousand dollars. He didn't want his friends to be suspicious when he continued to spend money later.

Maverick's three friends were stunned, if he got $500,000, wouldn't he become rich overnight? The three of them looked at each other, then Jason's eyes widened before he opened his mouth. "Maverick, what's your plan next with that much money?"

Maverick shook his head while scratching his head. "I don't know... I also don

't know what to use it for. But one thing's for sure, I want to treat you guys first to celebrate this and have fun!" he said sincerely.

Jason, Adrian, and Giuly were touched by their friend's words. Even though he was now well-off, Maverick still remembered them. Without hesitation, they hugged Maverick tightly with happiness.

Maverick would never forget his three friends who were always there for him when everyone else underestimated him. He at least wanted to share his happiness with them.
