CHAPTER 05

The system forced Gabe to spit, and the half-chewed chicken piece and bones flew out of his mouth and fell on top of his friends.

Utterly shocked, Gabe thought everything was over. He thought they would gang up and beat him so badly he would take a few weeks to recover.

However, to his shock and relief, they didn’t even react.

They were already too drunk at that point to realize what had happened.

“Whew…” Gabe breathed a sigh of relief but then scolded the system. “Are you trying to ruin my relationship with them?”

[What sort of relationship is this? You should be alpha, not a freaking beta when you interact with others!] The system also sharply responded. [Don’t show me this type of behavior again, or you’ll lose my respect.]

Gabe felt threatened by the system’s words. “But, didn’t Jesus tell us to be meek and humble?”

[There’s a difference between being meek and miserable. Jesus is the alpha of alphas. He never begged people to believe in God. He commanded everyone to repent from their sinful life and believe in God, for their own good. That’s how you should be. Alphas never beg. Alphas have unshakable conviction, you understand.]

Gabe felt motivated by the system’s words. “Mm. That makes sense. Wait, don’t you have a name?”

[You can call me Systa.]

“Systa. That’s a lazy name.”

[Yes…. No, it’s not. I’m not lazy. I’ll make you so strong, you’ll even be able to stand on your dick if you want.]

Gabe blinked twice. “T-That’s not possible, right? Surely…” he couldn’t even imagine himself doing that. “You must be joking.”

[Like I said, anything is possible if you trust me.]

“How about you give me a million dollars first?”

[I make alphas not money. If you want a million dollars, you have to work for it. I’ll help you with that.]

“I have to work?” Gabe’s shoulders slumped. “I thought you’ll be able to print money or something.”

[I’m an alpha-making system, not a money-making system.]

Gabe’s eyes shone. “Wait, does that mean there are money-making systems?”

[Yes. I’ve met different kinds of systems a few times, but they all hate me because I’m superior to them. Still, don’t worry. Once you level up, I’ll be able to tame them and make you supremely powerful and rich. Until then, you will need to bear the hate.]

“Huh, so you are also hated, huh…” Gabe weakly exhaled through the mouth. He looked a bit deflated.

[You should just focus on defeating the alphas for now. Do that, and the rest will automatically follow. If you want me to put it in biblical terms. Seek first the kingdom of God, and everything you need will be added to you.]

“This makes sense, too. Anyway, I’ll trust you for now, but don’t control my body without warning.”

[I’ll keep that in mind.]

“How do you even control my body anyway?” Gabe asked in confusion. He really wanted to know. “How’s that even possible, for a mere ring?”

[Human body is made out of soil, but parts of the body interact through electrical signals. I’m just sending such signals to control your body.]

“Wow,” Gabe was impressed as well as shocked. “I had no idea such a thing was even possible.”

[Well, I can control every part of your body, whether it be your brain or your dick.]

Gabe’s shoulders jerked. “Stop. I don’t want to talk about it right now.” It felt quite weird when a female voice talked about his private part.

Once his friends finished their drinking and meals, they put a few dollars in Gabe’s hand and left without cleaning the mess they made on the floor.

When Gabe ate the leftovers and began sweeping the floor, Systa spoke furiously.

[Just for a few dollars, you lick your friends’ boots. Just thinking about it irks my nerves.]

“Maybe, but it’s one of the steady sources of my income,” Gabe shamelessly said. “My friends drink every other day. Over a period of one month, what they give will add up to a hundred dollars and sometimes more. Hundred dollars is not much for them, but it’s a lot for me. It’s very useful to pay the bills.”

[I get that, but you shouldn’t do this anymore. An alpha shouldn’t be subservient to anybody. Tell your friends to look for another spot.]

Gabe’s heart skipped a beat. “If I tell them without giving a damn good reason, they’ll beat me.”

[If you don’t man up, I’ll take over your body and beat their assess black and blue.]

“I-I’ll think of something, so give me some time.”

Just then, someone stopped by the main door. He turned his head and received a big shock. A voluptuous beauty with a wonderful smile on her face was standing at the door. She glowed like a star in a sparkling gold dress that barely exposed her knees. This woman was none other than Kiera, the same woman that had dumped him on his wedding day.

What was she doing here? Why did she come to his house?

Gabe looked baffled. In that second or two, millions of neurons fired in his brain as he wondered what reason brought her to him. Did she perhaps come to regret what she had done to him?

But why did she come right when he was sweeping the floor?

He threw the broom aside and tried to smile.

Kiera entered the house and glanced around before finally settling her eyes on her ex-fiance. “If I had married you, I would be sweeping the floor in your place right now, wouldn’t I?”

Gabe’s smile weakened. In his mind, he was thinking that she wasn’t wrong.

“I didn’t come to poke you, Gabe,” she took out an envelope from her purse. “I came here to personally invite you to my wedding.”

Gabe’s expression froze. She came to meet him after three years just to say this? Did she again bet with her friends that she would make Gabe attend her wedding? She was definitely capable of doing that, he thought.

“It took me three years to find the right one,” Kiera calmly said. “He’s a multi-millionaire who doesn’t let my bare feet touch the ground. He treats me like a treasure, even more than you did. Am I not lucky?”

Gabe forced out a smile and nodded.

“Don’t forget to come to the wedding,” she slightly rested her hand on his shoulder. “I will introduce you to my husband and tell him to give you a job, you know. You look like you need one.” Her words stung him deeply. And then she left.

Gabe walked up to the door and saw Kiera enter a Porsche 911. The man in the driving seat looked tall and handsome. He briefly cast a glance toward Gabe before driving away.

Gabe returned to his old sofa and plopped himself down. He lowered his head; his thumb and forefinger pressing the bridge of his nose.

[Are you controlling yourself from crying? You’re such a beta.]

“Shut up,” Gabe sniffled a little. “I’m not crying. I’m just…”

Even though he didn’t tell outright as to how he was feeling, Systa could tell from the readings of his heart that it was aching so much.
