CHAPTER 17

Gabe came home and explained what happened to his aunt.

“I don’t blame you for quitting,” Nicole rubbed his shoulder softly, “but they’re rich people. They can easily make our lives more miserable. If they hire rowdies and kick us out of this house, what will we be able to do?”

Gabe deeply frowned to hear those words. “I’ll go and apologize to them.”

“No,” Nicole grabbed his hand. “Don’t. I doubt an apology would stop them from thinking negatively about us. What’s done is done. Whatever may come our way, we’ll have to face it together.”

Gabe didn’t know where her aunt’s confidence was coming from when she wouldn’t be able to get off the bed without his help.

Unlike her, Gabe didn’t have the confidence to take on Bart, let alone his entire family.

He felt so sad and pathetic… just taking a breath proved burdensome.
