Gabe left Ulf to watch over Nicole, and Systa to watch over Mia from a distance.

Gabe drove to the place where Russell told him to come. It was an old warehouse at the border of the city.

But before Gabe even stepped out of the car, he saw David and Sansa and recognized them immediately. Russell was talking with them outside the warehouse.

“Why the hell are they here?” For a second, he wondered if Russell was setting him up. “Should I go out or not? What do you think, Systa?”

[If I were you, I’d get the hell away from there.] Systa sent him a mental message. [Nothing good will come from messing with them. If they know that I am with you, they’re going to chase you to the ends of the earth.]

Gabe frowned and was about to put his foot on the accelerator.

“Gabriel!” Russell’s voice reached his ears. “Come inside,” he was waving his hand.

(Don’t listen. Just leave.) Gabe told himself, but his leg couldn’t press the pedal. There weren’t many people around in this neighborhood, so it was a
