Adam followed Carson down the hallway.

He did not bother to look back since he would only be prodded by the butt of the gun anyway.

Yet, all around him, he could see people dressed like Carson working on one thing or another.

He saw a man pouring a green liquid into a vial while three others monitored its properties from a machine that was attached to the bottom of the vial.

Adam would give anything to have an answer at that moment, and he knew that Carson could give him answers.

All he needed to do was get to talk to the man alone at a place where the gunmen couldn’t threaten the old man.

The question was where.

Adam was jolted out of his thoughts when Jeremy gasped beside him and suddenly stopped moving.

“Wha…”

Adam didn’t need to complete his question as he looked to the side where Jeremy’s gaze was focused.

The unmistakable snarls and growls reached his ears, even as he saw the nightmare that awaited them.

In a big room with an embossed plaque atop it that reads “PPE ST

Adam was anticipating it. He was expecting the men to press the button that would make the lever materialise again. Instead, the one in the lead only gave him a deathly stare. Then he told the bleeding man to stop his noise. After which, he turned away and left. Followed by the two others.Adam could see the surprise on the faces of everyone there. Even the lady with the faraway look on her face turned her head to look at him again. The wonder they felt showed on their faces. Adam doubted that was the last he would hear of what he had done though. He could see that Jeremy was calming down as he ate the banana. Adam threw caution to the wind and he brought out two bags of raisin and roasted peanuts. “Have some” he said to the boy. Then he sat beside Jeremy and calmly ate the raisin as if he couldn’t see the look of surprise on the faces of those around. After a few seconds of silence, the lady who was facing the wall earlier turned to Adam and asked, “Can I have some?" A

Adam looked warily at the sleeping people around him. Lisa hurried out of the room immediately after one of the guards shouted at her to wrap up what she was doing, or they would do it for her. A few seconds later, the breeze that Adam had noted earlier in the cubicle turned colder. Then, within a twinkle of an eye, those around him started falling asleep. First, it was the injured man. Then, Clint. Ray simply hung his head and slept off. The couple hugged themselves to sleep. Then the green-eyed lady followed suit. Adam couldn’t believe what had happened. He was sure of one thing, though. The sleep was not natural. He was sure that it must have something to do with the chilly draft of air. He shook Jeremy lightly, but the latter simply mumbled in his sleep and slept off again. Adam knew he had to get out of the cubicle. He had to get out now! Though Lisa had informed him that he should wait, he knew he couldn’t wait any longer. Did Lisa know that they were drugging t

They were not coming towards him. The masked man had not said anything! Adam was sure now that the man had seen him the first time too. Why would he let him go? A high-pitched sound came from the zombies cubicle as Ray turned. Chunk of shredded flesh hanging out of its face and body, it rose in a distorted form. Knocking back some of the zombies. The people sleeping started waking up before Adam could get over his shock. The sword stood stuck in the glass wall, wiggling as if it was expecting Adam to take action. “What the hell?” Adam heard behind him as he reached out to touch the sword. The sword wiggled in his hand and slid down, pulling Adam with it. There was a clean slit in the glass and true fresh air swept in through the hole, unlike the doctored oxygen that had been filtering into the cubicle since they were locked in. “What the hell is going on?” Clint shouted all of a sudden as he looked across the cubicle and saw Ray snarling and grunting with the other zombies. “Keep your mouth shut unless you want them to come back and do the same to you” Adam whispered urgently. He could hear shocked gasps behind him as the others' attention were caught by what Clint had seen. “Those fuckers did this to us while we were asleep, didn’t they? You can’t shoot?” she asked in surprise. “He can’t shoot” Clint snorted in disgust. “Can you, idiot?” Adam asked testily. Clint looked away with a twist of his mouth. “Damn, you all are…okay, we need to rectify that,” Layla said as she stepped forward and took the gun from Adam. She winked at him and said, “Do you have more of this in that gizmo of yours?” Adam simply reached into the orb and brought out the revolver. “Whew, you are a bag of surprises,” she said with a grin as she collected the revolver from him and tested the weight. “So, handling a gun is just like

Adam could feel the moment he stepped into the centre. His sharpened hearing could pick the difference in the vibrations of the whole centre. It was as if the whole centre held its breath in anticipation. Footsteps resounded down the hallway. Then Adam heard a trembling voice from afar “I am sorry, young master. I thought it would work this time around. I…please give me another chance to try again” The sound of something being dragged across the centre got closer seconds before the door crashed inward. “Young master, please. I…” A grunt followed as Carson was thrown hard against the floor. He hit his face against the floor so hard that blood trailed from his mouth as he raised his head. His wrinkled, white coat was stained with a spot of blood and his face looked like it had received a couple of punches already. “Asshole” Adam heard Layla muttered under her breath. Adam recognised the car even before he saw the cutout van behind it. His heart leaped for joy when he saw Layla at the wheel of the car. But then his happiness was tainted by what Lisa just told him. He looked back at his sister just as the car parked. “You are sure?” he asked urgently. With tears in her eyes, Lisa nodded. Adam stepped out of the car. “Adam!” Layla called excitedly as she rushed forward to hug him. The men in the van came down just as Layla realised that Adam was not as excited as she was. She moved back from his embrace and asked, “What is wrong? Were you able to get…” Layla saw Lisa at the back of the car just then. She smiled in greeting and said, “Glad to see you are okay, Lisa.” “Hi, Layla,” Lisa responded in a gloomy tone. That made Lisa’s brow rise in confusion as she looked back at Adam and asked, “What is the problem?” Adam didn’t bother to mince words. “It is Theo,” he answered. Layla automatically looked towards the airplane, where Jeremy w

Even though the sword kept slashing zombies down behind him while following him, the zombies were relentless in their pursuit. At that moment, Adam thought fondly of the chemical the Emir’s men had used on the zombies. He would make it his life mission to ensure they had something like that too. That was if he survived. Which was not looking so likely at the moment. The bites on his body hurt like hell as he ran without pause. The overgrown weeds slowed him down, while the mindless zombies plowed on without stopping. He had to turn to shoot at the closest two zombies that escaped the sword’s reach, even while backing away. The zombies were gaining on him as the airplane came into view. He could see the anxious faces of Lisa and Jeremy by the window as they were yelling something he couldn’t hear.
