Mark simply didn't care about Janelle. Janelle was usually a loner. Emilia spread rumors about Janelle making everyone think of her as a bad person and as a loser.

She hated Janelle for coming into her life and for being a lot more prettier than she was. She was supposed to be the prettiest daughter of the household. And even though she and Janelle didn't have the same last name the fact that they lived under the same roof made her upset.

If it had been in her power she would have gotten rid of Janelle. But since she couldn't she had to make sure she doesn't have many friends.

And that stuck, Janelle didn't really care about friends. Not until Frank came into her life.

He was really nice to her and he was a genuine friend even though Janelle tried to push him away so many times thinking he was a fake just like everyone else but he was persistent.
